From: "Dik de Heer" Date: Sun Jun 23, 2002 2:13 am - UPDATED 6 JANUARY 2004 Subject: Born To Be With You : Adam Faith ADAM FAITH (By Shaun Mather) Born Terence Nelhams, 23 June 1940, Acton, London, England Died 8 March 2003, London (?) Adam Faith was born in Acton, West London, and made his first public appearances at the legendary 2 I's coffee bar in London's Soho. He came to the attention of producer Jack Good and band leader John Barry and was invited to audition for a role in Drumbeat. Faith first emerged on the music scene on the HMV and Top Rank labels, but he saw little chart success until Drumbeat came along in 1959. Soon after, he signed to EMI's Parlophone label and in November 1959 cut What Do You Want, which went to number one on the UK charts. The follow-up, Poor Me, also reached number one, while his third, Someone Else's Baby, climbed to number two. Typical for these early Parlophone hits was the pizzicato accompaniment by John Barry's orchestra, copied from Buddy Holly's "It Doesn't Matter Anymore". Faith had half a dozen songs in the Top Ten during 1960, and another three in 1961, also starring in the film Beat Girl. By the middle of the decade he was concentrating more on his acting and by the '70s had moved on to a very successful career as a businessman. He worked in the theater in the 1970s and writing and starring in the series Budgie. He also returned to films, most notably in Stardust, McVicar and the television version of Murder on the Orient Express. Recommended listening: On The Move/Faith Alive - Beat Goes On (BGO).
