THE FIVE TROJANS - by Al Kelly The Five Trojans/Trojans from St.Louis, MO. Art Lassiter was their lead when they recorded for the Tender and RPM labels. They had moved to the West Coast where the major labels. The group started out in '55 and were known as the Bel Airs but when Lassiter broke down in St. Louis while on his way to LA, CA, he stayed to work and earn money to fix his car. He met the Bel Airs and in '56, they became the Trojans, following their RPM record, they became the Rockers on the Federal label later in '56. In '58 they recorded on the Tender label .In '59 they signed with James Ames of LA, who owned the Edison Intl. label. They backed Nicky St. Clair on his one release. Several tunes have this same sound, I'd swear it was a NYC record but recorded in LA, CA. All guides say the group is the same as on RPM/Tender.
