Meet the Cast:
Katie Paxman- Director
After over ten yeas of active involvement in the Victoria theatre community as an actress, Katie is taking the big step into her first major directing role - and directing her father only adds to the excitement! In Sooke, she has played in the StageWest productions Fiddler on the Roof, The Sound of Music and Rape of the Belt. Outside of Sooke she was seen in the title role of Sylvia out in Sidney and in about a dozen Four Seasons Productions. She has played in Hamlet, Julius Caesar and Twelth Night with the Victoria Shakespeare Festival and Juliet in Romeo and Juliet. Special thanks to the StageWest board of Directors for their support in this project as well as to Chris for never letting go. This one goes out to the family, especially Matt.
Renee Nault- Artistic Director
Renee is an artist and designer living in Toronto. She has done costume, set design and poster art for Four Seasons and StageWest Theatre Companies and is currently enrolled in the Illustration program at Sheridan College. A talented acttress, Renee has also appeared on stage for several productions in Sooke including Key for Two for StageWest and Bedroom Farce for the Festival of Performing Arts.
Christopher Morton St-Jacques- Romeo
The dream has come. Big thanks to all who have supported me, especially close friends/ co-actors Clayton, Gavin, and of course, Ryan for being a part of this with me. I've never had as much fun with three guys in tights, it's a pleasure. A special thank you to Katie for helping in bringing it alive, and a big hello down in New Mexico; wish you were here Matt, this one goes out to you.
Jackie Nadiger- Juliet
This is Jackie's first role with the Stage West Players and she is thrilled to be working with such a talented cast and crew. She has previously acted in the Victoria Shakespeare Festival playing the roles of Celia in As You Like It and Hero in Much Ado About Nothing. Most recently Jackie appeared at the Belfry in the Vancouver Island Repertory Production of Cloud Nine.
Ryan Shotton- Tybalt
This is Ryan's first production since high school and he is very excited about being part of it. "It's really exciting to be playing the part of Tybalt, getting to be the personification of hate and especially acting beside my long time friend, Chris." Ryan would like to congratulate Chris for living his dream and he wishes all the cast the best of luck.
Steven Bowcott- Mercutio
Steve admits that he is very nervous about playing the part of Mercutio. "It's a part I've always dreamed of playing. I'm really pressured to prove to myself that i can tackle such a complicated role." Steven has appeared in several Stagewest productions including Oklahoma and Hidden Magic, and in Oliver for the Festival of the Performing Arts. He is grateful for being a part of this production and wishes his cast-mates all the best in the future.
Andrew Copeland- Friar Laurence
Andrew has worked previously in a production of Twefth Night where he was bitten multiple times. These bites have led to his taking on the role of Friar Laurence and if the infection continues many roles are sure to follow.
Nicholas Orrego- Benvolio
Nicolas has performed in a number of musicals and operas, with several lead roles. He studies music and has studied Shakespeare with the likes of Craig Pierce (Baz Luhrman's co-writer). Nicolas is usually making music when he performs but he has stepped away from singing and writing music to try his hand at performing Shakespeare though he has recited Shakespeare at Anne Hathaway's cottage.
Marvin Paxman- Lord Capulet
It has been several years since Marvin's last role on stage as Father March in the Four Seasons' musical production of Little Women. He couldn't resist the opportunity to take direction from his daughter, Katie. While having plenty of experience in things musical, this is Marvin's first Shakespeare production. A case of the father following the daughter's footsteps... "it has been a great experience."
Kelly Ditmars- Lady Capulet
A recent transplant to Victoria, Kelly is very pleased to be involved in the StageWest PLayers' production of Romeo and Juliet. After many years of involvement in a variety of community theatre productions, ranging from musicals and comedies to dramas, she is thrilled to finally add the old Bard to her resumes.
Adrienne de Souza- Lady Montague
Joining StageWest for a second year, Adrienne de Souza pops up in Romeo and Juliet as Lady Montague. You may have seen her around town if you have young children as, since her arrival in Victoria, Adrienne had enjoyed a variety of roles with Four Seasons Musical Theatre. Also a member of the Victoria Mystery Players, Adrienne is pleased to be playing another Shakespearean role. "Not since I played Ophelia at University have I had been able to speak lines with anything near the beauty of Shakespeare's," Adrienne reminisces. Before moving to B.C., Adrienne appeared as Natasha in Chekov's The Proposal, Anne Frank in The Diary of Anne Frank, Sonia in Godspell, and a variety of roles with the theatre department at the University of Ottawa. She hopes you enjoy Viewing Romeo and Juliet as much as she has enjoyed being a member of the warm and enthusiastic cast.
Gerrie Diesner- Nurse
Gerrie is a founding member and, currently, Vice President of Stage West Players. She has been involved in a majority of their productions, either on stage or behind the scenes. This is her first venture into Shakespeare. Although the play is a classical tragedy, Gerrie's love of comedy and outrageous nature show through in her portrayal of Juliet's nurse. Working with such an enthusiastic group of people has been a truly wonderful experience.

?
Meghan de Souza- Love
Meghan is delighted to be on stage with her first role with StageWest Players as "Love". After choosing an acting course as an elective at University, Meghan became hooked. Her previous acting experience includes performing on stage in Campus Issues Theatre at Uvic and as an evil alien in the film
Raising Dead. She has theatrical and screen training from her time at Uvic, as well as training in voice and dance. She plays both the guitar and flute.
