Jodhi May Biography
Jodhi T. May was born in North London in 1975 to a French mother and a German father.  She attended Camden School for Girls until 1994.  In 1988, at the age of 12, Jodhi was the unexpected star her first movie, "A World Apart".  Jodhi played, Molly Roth, the daughter of a anti-apartheid advocate.  Jodhi won the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival, along with Barbara Hershey and Linda Mvusi, for her work in A World Apart.
In 1992 Jodhi made her next big movie, the film "The Last of the Mohicans", in which she played the tragic Alice Munro.  "The Last of the Mohicans" was filmed in western North Carolina and Jodhi had to take many months off shchool to make the movie.
Jodhi was 16 when "The Last of the Mohicans" was made, and it brought this wonderful actress to the attention of many.  In 1994 Jodhi was asked to read English at Wadham College, Oxford.  Jodhi attended Wadham from 1994 until 1997.  In 1994 Jodhi also made the movie "Sister My Sister".  "Sister My Sister" is based on on the true and gruesome story of two French maids, Christine and Lea Papin, who brutally murder their employers  "Sister My Sister", is to date, Jodhi's darkest film.
In 1995 Jodhi made "Signs and Wonders" a television mini series and in 1997 she starred in the critically acclaimed film, "The Gambler".  "The Gambler" is about Dostoyevsky, and Jodhi plays Anna, the penniless woman he hires to help him write his book The Gambler, which his publisher is demanding in one month. "The Gambler" was the start of Jodhi's career as an adult actress, and Jodhi won the Silver Dolphin at the Festroia-Troia International Film Festival for this role.
In 1998 Jodhi made "The Woodlanders", an adaption of the novel by Hardy.  In 1999 she was in the TV movie "Warriors" and portrayed Lady Sarah Lennox in the BBC production "Aristocrats"; the tale of four high-born sisters who, "Stand at the pinnicle of power and intrigue in 18th century Britian"PBS.org
(By the bye-"Aristocrats" is the frist place I
remeber seeing Jodhi May...I had seen her in "The Last of the Mohicans" whern I was 6, but I didn't remember that.)
The tele movie "The Turn of the Screw", based on the novel by James, also 1999, was Jodhi's next work.   In this movie Jodhi plays Miss, the Govorness sent to look after a brother and sister.  After a time the seemingly idyllic situation turns into a nightmare when Miss begins to see the ghosts of dead servents, whom she believes to be influencing and corrupting her charges.  This story is often descriped as a case of sexual hysteria but it is also a gripping and terrifying portrayl, on Jodhi's part, of a woman who doubts her morality and sanity.
Jodhi's most recent movie was "The House of Mirth", based on the Edith Warhton novel.  I would tell you what it's about but my VCR ate the tape when I rented it...so, we'll all have to wait on this one.
Jodhi just finished filming, "The Mayor of Casterbridge", an adaptation of Hardy's novel.  She is currently in Ireland working on the Escapist with Johnny Lee Miller and has just finished a run in Checkov's "Platonov".
