Norman's back, and this time he's in COLOUR ! Remember Marion's sister, Lila ? Well she's back with a vengeance, determined to see Norman go down for his horrific crimes, and this time she's brought her daughter Mary along for the ride. Fresh out of the institution, he is decalred sane and heads back to the motel. However, it's not long before the body count startts rising... is it really Norman just up to his old tricks, or is there a more sinister force at work? On returning to civilised society, Norman works for a spell at the local diner, taking a job as the cook's helper. its not long before he starts receiving odd notes and phone calls from someone claiming to be his mother.... The Bates Motel has been under new management during Norman's absence, but the drunken proprietor Warren Toomey is promptly fired after a brief argument with its reformed rightful owner. Over the years Lila and her daughter have been running a huge yet unsuccessful campaign to see Norman reinstitutionalised. However, when Mary meets Norman she realises that he's trying hard to retain his sanity and so refuses to be part of her mother's plan to drive him crazy again. Only Lila being Lila, she doesn't listen, and meets with a very nasty death indeed... but at whose hands? Norman has Dr Raymond retrieve the corpse of Mrs Bates, as proof that she really is dead. However, in spite of these revelations, it all goes downhill. As a self-confressed Psycho-phile, I was shocked to discover that Hollywood had produced a sequel to such a classic; although, this was nothing compared to how shocked and appalled i was when i found out that a REMAKE had been made! Visitors to this page might remember how I was never a huge fan of this film as a sequel - i've had a change of heart, as i can now say this is one of the best films in the Psycho series, and an adequate sequel, with a decent script, great music, amazing performances and not to mention some blood'n'guts to boot! Hehe. If you want to find out more, please check out Jason Allentoff's excellent site, The Psycho Movies. Amazingly enough, not only was it a huge boost to Tony Perkins' career, it was also the 2nd highest grossing film of 1983, after Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. |
