Stages of Production
AS Film Studs
Ever wanted to know how movies get made (what, you don't already)? Well, even if you do, here's a print out and keep guide to how your fave movies make it from script to screen!
If you're doing AS Film it might be useful to pick a movie as a case study and examine it using these varying stages of production, to help you gain an understanding of the film industry.
1. Creative speculation/screenwriting - the script is written, the director/producer goes about trying to find financial backing for the projecct. Other keu positions are filled, such as actors and actresses who will star in the film.

2.
Securing creative team and financial backing. Once this is secured, the project will get given the...

3.
Green light - if a deal has been struck with one of the studios and all the important production roles have been filled, then the film is ready to be made - the seal of approval is called the "green light".

4.
Pre-production - the production team prepare the film for filming; the film is budgeted, storyboarded, cast and all the necessary locations are hired.

5.
Filming - despite pre-production, filing can still be extremely unpredictable. Whilst a director tries not to go over budget, he/she may do so in the course of filming and extra finances may need to be secured.

6.
Post-production - if the director is unsatisfied with the film, he/she may spend extra finances to fix it in post production. This can be achieved through digital editing, reshooting scenes or shooting new scenes.

7.
Advertising and publicity - a vast amount of the budget of a modern film is spent on it's advertising and promotion. This includes posters and film trailers, aswell as radio and television spots.

8. And finally,
cinematic release! The film is released to cinemas for worldwide consumption.
