Lahore, Nov 24: The Pakistan cricket team has a surprise package for former captain Wasim Akram when he takes the field for his 100th Test match at Faisalabad against England next week.
"We want to honour Wasim in a fashion that he remembers it for the rest of his life. It will just be a token of appreciation and thanks by the team for his contribution to the game and the country," Pakistan skipper Moin Khan said.
Moin, who remained Wasim's deputy for nearly two years, however, refused to reveal the details. "It's a surprise for everyone."
At Faisalabad, Wasim will become only the third Pakistani after Javed Miandad (124) and Salim Malik (103) to complete century of Tests. He will also be the 24th cricketer in the history of the game to achieve the personal milestone.
In 99 Tests to-date, Wasim has captured 408 wickets at 23.02 and has scored 2,810 runs at 22.83 with three centuries, including a double century against Zimbabwe, and seven half centuries.
"When I started my career, let alone thinking of 100 Tests, I never thought I will play half of those," Wasim Akram told Dawn at the Qadhafi Stadium after Pakistan cricket team's first training session.
