Humanity
Humanity is a relatively young race, compared to the venerable Taelons and Jaridians, and especially next to the ancient Kimera. While humanity is not as physically or mentally evolved as these alien beings, they nevertheless have a mixture of survival instinct and defensive ability, tempered by intellect and compassion.Humanity's history was radically altered by the arrival of the Taelon Ma'el, who bestowed psychic abilities on certain individuals. Ma'el discovered that humanity was the missing link between Taelons and Jaridians, and the human species soon became his primary focus in the interest of saving his own race.
Despite Ma'el's warnings, the Taelons arrived on Earth shortly after the start of the third millennium, and the arrival of alien beings had extreme consequences for every human civilization, save a few who were isolated enough to not be aware of it. The dating system was changed to AC for "After Companions"; Embassies were built in major regions of the world such as Washington and London; and such severe difficulties as famine and many diseases were solved through Taelon assistance.
Not all humans were taken in by the glamor of the Taelons.
The very day that the Taelons landed on Earth, several powerful people (including Renee Palmer and Jonathan Doors) met to form the core of the Resistance/Liberation movement. This movement remained hidden until 3AC, shortly after William Boone was recruited and Jonathan Doors faked his own death. Doors later interrupted the World Bowl broadcast to reveal his continued existance and the formation of the Liberation, along with hideous experiments done on humans by the Taelons.
The easily-swayed populace of Earth quickly began to ask questions, which were quelled by a sharp- witted young Taelon named Zo'or. He was thwarted and temporarily humiliated. Despite this, the Taelons — and North American Companion Da'an in particular — remained extremely popular.
The Resistance was endangered when an alien named Ha'gel came close to their headquarters, and later when Ha'gel's young son Liam brought Da'an to their hiding place. This did not affect them, as Da'an was unwilling to betray those with good motives, so long as no damage was done to the Taelons.
Humans' fickle opinions began to sway again when Companion Agent Ronald Sandoval violated the rights of college students while hunting the murderer of a Taelon. Additionally, a secret government- sanctioned organization, called Operation Dark Knight and unknown to the president, was discovered to be headed by the Liam Kincaid who had served in the SI War alongside William Boone.
Certain aspects of humanity became more attractive to the Taelons, whose aggressions and compassions had been sapped away by the Commonality. Specifically, the willingness to rescue an enemy or a potential enemy, and the possibility of survival instincts overwhelming the mind to survive an attack.
Humans have turned out to be far more complex and intelligent than many Taelons originally thought...
