She stared at him a moment before she realized he was goading her.  Then, she glared at him like she going to put her small bodice dagger into his heart.  Her fingers twictched, and Camden saw his life flash before his eyes.

Instead, she put her hands on her hips, "My family would never sell me."

Camden looked to the slightly older boy holding a drum.  "Are you her brother?"  The young man nodded to which Camden replied, "How much do you want for her?"

Her mouth dropped open.  She had never been so shocked by anything in her life.  This mere slip of a sailor was trying to
buy her?!

"Twenty goldpieces."  The young man said without hesitation.

"Done."  Camden tossed him a bag of coins.

The girl shrieked, outraged, "Sean!  You cannot sell me!"  She cried, diving for him.

Sean merely shrugged, "It's too late, Kaldina.  I already have the money.  Mama and Da wil be sad at first, twenty gold pieces will feed the family for a long time."

"
You bastard traitor!!!"  She reached for his neck, but Camden caught her around the waist.

She kicked and screamed, fighting with a strength impressive for one her size.

Camden chuckled as she fought him, "It will be so bad, little one," he murmured into her ear.

"
Arrogant gadje bastard!!! How dare you??!!"

"You are quite lovely when you are about to rip someone's head off.  Did you know that?"

Kaldina looked at him as though he had grown two heads, "You're a nutter!"

Camden just shrugged, "I've taken a liking to you.  Now, will you act your age and stop struggling with me?"

She hung her head in what Camden thought was defeat, but he realized as she sank small, blunt  teeth into his arm, that he should never underestimate this wee slip of a girl.

"Shit!"

His curse brought a peal of throaty laughter from Kaldina.  Camden's eyes narrowed on her.

"You're going to be difficult, aren't you?"

"If you honestly expect me to just stand here and be bought and sold like chattle, then you are more daft than you appear.  Is there anything underneath that curly noggin' of yours?"

Canden just stared at her.  "Alright.  You're going to be ugly about this."  he scooped her up, slinging her over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes and headed in the direction of the
Painted Lady.

Captain James McCloud rolled his eyes at his Lookout who just happened to be hauling a struggling female aboard his ship.  "What the hell do you think you're doing, mophead?  You can't bring a female aboard me ship!  That is a disaster waiting to happen."  He didn't know how right he was.

"I can't leave her.  I've go too much invested in her."

"How'd you bag a whore that quickly, Camden?"

"I'm not a whore!!!" The girl roared over her shoulder.      TBC...
