Mystikal

MYSTIKAL

Back at Jive Records, where he started out, Mystikal, aka Michael Tyler, is no longer a No Limit Soldier. Originally from New Orleans, Mystikal was among some of the first rappers from New Orleans to get nationwide exposure.

The smooth rapping, hi-energy rapper had moved on from the New Orleans underground hip-hop scene in back in 95 and signed with Jive Records to release "Mind of Mystikal".

Then he joined No Limit, the close-knit crew from New Orleans. When Mystikal became an official No Limit Soldier, his fans doubled as his 1997 cd "Unpredictable" went through the roof. He had jams that featured Snoop Doggy Dogg, Silkk the Shocker, E-40, Mia X and Master P. The makings of a hit record. "Ghetto Fabulous" followed in early 99, and almost debuted at number one on the album charts.

Now gone solo, Mystikal has quickly emerged as one of the Dirty South's most recognized rappers, his single "Shake Ya Ass" has earned him a Grammy nomination for "Best Rap Solo Performance." Consolidating his status as a hot property, Mystikal wasted no time put out "Let's Get Ready" in the fall of 2000, eclipsing all of his preceding releases in sales terms.

This cd is definitely Mystikal's most ambitious project to date. On "Let's Get Ready," Mystikal keeps his Southernplayalistic style intact as the cd features guest appearances by Da Brat, Outkast and label-mate Petey Pablo and productions by Medicine Men (formerly Beats By The Pound,) The Neptunes and Atlanta's Outkast. The cd also shows the some of the enterprising talent that Mystikal has always had but couldnt exhibit while under the No Limit umbrella.

Unfortunately in early 2004 Mystikal was sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty to sexual battery charges that stemmed from a woman who cliams Mystikal and two of his bodyguards forced her to perform oral sex on them. Allegedly the incident took place after she was accused of stealing $80,000 worth of checks from Mystikal.

Unbelievably, the acts were caught on video tape and the judge declared the victim had been terrorized and said that Mystikal gave the impression he was above the law. He was also convicted of extortion charges which he was given five years probation for that charge.
