Eastport is the easternmost city in the United States. The sun rises here before anywhere else. The waterfront thrives as a shipping port, which serves fishing, international shipping and pleasure boating. Eastport ships cargoes of paper product as well as some logs and granit to international destinations. Eastport was once the site of sardine fishing and canning industries, Eastport is now the leading center of aquaculture on the east coast. It produces farm raised Atlantic Salmon year round. Tourism is big in the summer and seems to be growing. There is alot of natural beauty in our area. If your a boating person there are boat tours, such as Charter Cruses and whale watching and most days the wildlife is fasciniting. You might see whales, seals,ospray, porpoises, bald eagels,and of course, ducks and geese. Eastport has the worlds second largest whirlpool, "The Old Sow". Eastport is on Moose Island. Ferry service is available to Canadian Islands and the Canadian mainland. Eastport has a historic district, private galleries and an arts center. These are thing you may like to visit durning your stay here. Eastport's National Historic Waterfront District. Eastport's Barracks Museum ( this was used as part of officers barracks for Fort Sullivan) Raye's Mustard Mill ( America's only remaining mill producing stone ground mustard. Fort Sullivan Site (Built in 1808 to defend Eastport against the British. ) The tides in this area, at the mouth of the Bay of Fundy, are the greatest in the United States. We are located across the river to Campebello Island,New Brunisick Canada. Eastport has the biggest 4th of July celeberation in the downeast area. A navel frigett is in for a port of call every year at that time. We have a week of interesting activities and something of interest for everyone. |
