The Vitae are divided into 2 general groups, The regular Vitae and those who have defected from the normal Vitae society. Regular Vitae are divided into warriors, the youth, and mystics, the elders.

To join the mystics a young warrior must learn to create life from inorganic material. As this is an extremely daunting task, some warriors may have lower mystic-like abilities but not yet be mystics.

Vitae Youth

Vitae youth are jealous of the secrets of the elders. They are often rash and will rush into battle to prove their worth and enhance their skill. Some disenchanted Vitae youth have broken away from the main society and hone their energy manipulation abilities for battle purposes. These can generally be told from other Vitae by their remarkable size as they often refuse to give up eating as the Mystics often do.

Vitae Mystics

The other races of the world know very little of the Vitae mystics except that they chant and meditate all day and do not eat. Most interactiosn with outsiders are done covertly and from a distance. Tasks requiring a physical presence are delegated to the youth. Mystics have a complex social rank system. New mystics spend their time meditate in solitude trying to overcome the social eating habit and hone their abilities. Above them are the battlemagi who serve as liasons between the Mystics and the Vitae youth and bolster the armies whenever danger is emminent. Next are the watchers who expand their awareness out miles beyond the Vitae's mountain home and record the events of the world. Beyond that ranking gets complicated with no rigid classes buy mystics have influence based on age, knowledge, ability, and many other things. Every century the oldest ten meet in the crater of the volcano on which they live and make secret plans for the next century.

Vitae Outcasts

There are two groups of Vitae outcats Rebels and Rogues. The Rogues are those who are bitter towards the regular Vitae and attempt to attack and destroy them. The Rebels simply disagree with the lifestyle of the regular Vitae and have set off to live apart. Both groups live near the base of the mountains. They spend much time fighting amongst themselves or warring with the Vitae above or the Magi below. Some of the older outcasts have grown to be giants and terrorize the Magi and even sometimes the wraiths below without the aid of armies. More fearsome then their battle prowess is their mental abilities. Less sane Vitae have been known to commit such attrocities as entrancing towns of other races or even other Vitae and having them flay eachother alive. Occasionally True Vitae or even Rebel Vitae appear to fight the Rogues or, when things get extreme, a mystic comes down to punish them. Seeing how the mystics can deal with the Rogues so easily, one must wonder why they do not simply wipe them out completely.
