Hey, just because they're pokemon doesn't mean they don't have a story to tell! After all, with the chip on Kou's shoulder, you know something got to be up. Here's a page chronicling all the unique pokemon personalities.

Lia's Pokemon

Kou
Species: CombuskenRelative Age: 14
Trainer: Lia Makura
1st Appearance: Chapter 1
Personality: Sarcastic and flippant, Kou has an issue with pretty much everyone she comes across. She enjoys fighting more than anything, and her goal is to become the strongest pokemon around. She's not a very fast thinker, but her fighting instincts are unparalleled.
Identifying Characteristics: Kou is for the most part a normal Combusken. However, the feathers on her head are a little longer than average and curl inward slightly.
Known Backstory
Kou was born the youngest of six, the only girl in her brood. In addition to her five twin brothers, she had an older brother as well. Because her mother had seven children, Kou had to struggle to be noticed. Her contrary nature evolved as a result of that. She remembers her father only in passing.
When she was still young, she and her siblings were ambushed by a small squad of people with a licsene to capture starters (they're protected by law). She and one of her twin brothers escaped, but the other four twins were captured and shipped off to various labs.
Now that her mother only had three children, things were a lot more calm. Kou actually began to enjoy her time with her family and calmed down a little. However, that happiness ended when she herself was captured only a few months later.
Kou was taken to Professor Birch's lab. Although she was terrified and confused, she was deemed okay to become a starter. She was given to a young trainer, but was promptly returned when she attacked him out of fear. She was then given to another trainer, but was also returned. With each new trainer, Kou became more cynical and distrustful, falling to the point when Lia found her. At that point, Kou had gone through six trainers.
To quote from Chapter 25:
"First there was Joel. Joel was her very first trainer, an energetic kid with tanned skin and wild black hair. She was so young then, terrified of everything. He tried to make her battle, but she froze up, unable to do anything. She could still remember the look of disappointment in his eyes as he handed her back to Birch.
It was a little better with Holly. Holly was weak, pale and quiet. Birch thought that Kou would do better with a more timid trainer. And it seemed to be alright � that is, until Holly tried to feed her. The girl had simply tried to move the bowl that Kou was eating from. Instinctively, the Torchic had lashed out, cutting Holly�s hand deeply. Holly had looked terrified when she returned Kou, refusing to even look at the pokemon for long periods of time.
Birch was baffled. He never had had a pokemon be rejected by two trainers in a row. But surely Brett would be a good match. He was tough, like �I-eat-nails-for-breakfast� tough. Kou wasn�t good enough for him. Emily ditched her after she deliberately set her bag on fire after she called her a reject. Jennifer didn�t really want her � she used her to catch another pokemon and abandoned her at a Center. Rick�well, Rick was cold. He never looked at her more than once or twice a day. He just kind of�ignored her. Birch eventually took her back due to neglect, and the boy didn�t put up any sort of fight.
So, by the time Kou encountered Lia, it was no surprise that she was skeptical."
Aurora
Species: KirliaRelative Age: 17
Trainer: Lia Makura
1st Appearance: Chapter 4
Personality: Very cool, calm, and collected, Aurora is most likely the smartest pokemon on Lia's team. Very little irritates her, but she does enjoy teasing Kou for fun. She refuses to remain in her pokeball for any reason.
Identifying Characteristics: Aurora is a perfectly average Kirlia physically. She has a gift for human-to-pokemon communication and is a great translator. Her psychic attacks are always blue.
Known Backstory
Little is known about Aurora's past. It is known that she lived in a small tribe of Ralts and their evolutions deep within Petalburg Woods.
Some in her tribe call her a bit of a prophet. She was born with the rare attack Future Sight, but she'll never use it. It seems that she, in fact, cannot control its onset.
She always keeps a close eye on Lia for a reason...
Shadow
Species: MightyenaRelative Age: 18
Trainer: Lia Makura
1st Appearance: Chapter 3
Personality: Calm and mature, Shadow doesn't let much bother him. He is often harrassed by Kou simply because he's an easy target. He's quite the gentleman and will always fight fair no matter what. The only time he shows aggression is if someone attacks his blind side - then he's absolutely vicious.
Identifying Characteristics: The biggest one is that his left eye is a milky blue color, as he is blind in that eye from falling on rocks during a battle. His left ear is also a bit tattered, and faint scars cross the same side of his face. He usually wears a bandana over his blind eye. His black mane is also quite fly-away and never lies flat.
Known Backstory
Shadow was born to the omega of a pack of Poochyena - not exactly an enviable position. The fact that his mother had him at all made the pack uneasy because it looked like she was after the alpha female's spot.
One day the pack turned on her, killing her and leaving Shadow an orphan. He was taken in by the alpha female, as is pack tradition, but the alpha's pups were much bigger than him and picked on him all the time - that's why he resists Kou's constant annoyance.
Even though the alpha watched over him, the rest of the pack still didn't like him. They took every excuse to punish him. He began to long for the life of a trained pokemon - if you work hard, you're rewarded. He dreamed of evolving.
One day, tired of eating last, he stole meat from the alpha's favored son. It led to a chase that crossed Lia's path...
Faelia
Species: ZigzagoonRelative Age: 12
Trainer: Lia Makura
1st Appearance: Chapter 3
Personality: Faelia is always sweet and compliant, almost to the point of faking it. She'll always do what you ask without complaint and acts the part of the perfect pokemon. When she is alone, however, she sees no reason to smile. Her true nature is unknown.
Identifying Characteristics: Faelia is indistinguishable from any other Zigzagoon. She is a meticulous groomer, however, so she always has neat, silky fur.
Known Backstory
Faelia had been alone as long as she could remember. She spent her childhood wandering between Littleroot and Rustboro. Her earliest memory is sitting in a snowy burrow, waiting for someone who never came.
She can quickly and analyze how she is expected to act in a given situation. She is quite good at holding facades, even when half asleep.
Next to nothing is truly known about her.
Nepti
Species: MarillRelative Age: 10
Trainer: Lia Makura
1st Appearance: Chapter 5
Personality: Nepti is almost paralyzingly timid, despite her namesake of the king of the sea. She almost never raises her voice and has a habit of nervously twisting her tail. Her usual expression is a slightly worried one. Despite all this, she is very kind and curious.
Identifying Characteristics: Nepti looks the same as all other Marill. She used to wear a feathered headband and war paint while in her tribe, but she discarded these when she was kicked out.
Known Backstory
Nepti was always a poor battler but a terrific swimmer. Because her Water Gun wasn't up to par, she had a low rank in her tribe and was often left as babysitter to her older sister's kits.
She led a quiet life. Still a child herself, her sister raised her, then she raised her sister's kids to an extent. Her nieces and nephews favored her over their mother, which didn't make things any easier for her.
She had been approaching the age of finding a mate and was sure to have a hard time of it due to her status. Her sister decided to arrange someone for her without any input from her sister. However, before the plan went into effect, a young trainer stumbled into their territory...
Rakurai
Species: ElectrikeRelative Age: 17
Trainer: Lia Makura
1st Appearance: Chapter 16
Personality: A proud and aggressive guy, Raku is always ready to battle. He has a fiery temper and won't leave an insult unanswered. He is a bit like Kou but with considerably more sense. He is loyal to those who earn it. He and Kou get along even worse than Kou and Aurora do, unbelievably, and they're always glaring at each other.
Identifying Characteristics: Rakurai has overgrown canine teeth and a faint scar across his muzzle courtesy of Kite. Otherwise, he is a typical Electrike, albeit a lean one.
Known Backstory
Rakurai was born a twin along with a sister, Rakuko. Their mother died in childbirth because twins are so rare and demanding among their species. Their father, a Manectric, was one of the three guardians of the pack, knowning the rare move Volt Tackle. It is unknown if he passed this attack to his children.
Despite their aunt's efforts, growing up without a mother left the twins wild and unruly children. They got into plenty of trouble and were very close. It was rare to see one without the other.
It wasn't long before the adolescent Rakurai grew restless of his boring pack life. Despite Rakuko's pleads, he decided to leave the pack for a while to see the world. He promised to return one day to tell her about everything he saw.
Several months later, the Electrike was minding his own business when he was attacked by a Nidorino. It had seemed that he had caught the eye of the notorious trainer, Kite...

Darren's Pokemon
Mint | Hikage | Leaf | Red Tail
Mint
Species: GrovyleRelative Age: 15. She acts a bit more mature than that, though.
Trainer: Darren Moss
1st Appearance: Chapter 9
Personality: Mint is very calm and blunt, always ready to give a patronizing smile. She speaks rather elegantly and is almost the complete opposite of Kou. There's not much that bothers her, but you wouldn't know if something did. Like her trainer, she's excellent at hiding her emotions.
Identifying Characteristics: Mint, true to her name, has mint green leaves instead of the normal turquoise blue. She takes pride in them and is well suited to being a contest pokemon.
Known Backstory
Mint had always been with Darren, along with Hikage. The three of them spent their entire childhood with each other. They all care for each other deeply.
It can be said that Mint is the being that understands Darren best in the entire world. She'll do anything for him and Hikage. However, if it's for his own good, she'll defy him.
She was born in the lab. She had no parents or siblings and was abandoned as an experiment because she didn't show the expected results. Darren, only three or so at the time, took her in.
Hikage
Species: KirliaRelative Age: 15. Mentally, however, he could be in his late twenties.
Trainer: Darren Moss
1st Appearance: Chapter 10
Personality: Hikage is very taciturn and rarely has anything to say. While he may come off as cold, he's really just awkward. He can't express his feelings well, which is troublesome for an emotion pokemon.
Identifying Characteristics: Hikage is anything but average. Where he should be green, he's black, and where he should be white, he's light gray. His eyes are also burgandy. According to Darren, there's a reason for this, but he's not ready to reveal it yet.
Known Backstory
Hikage remembers Darren and Mint as the first objects in his life. As children, they were often the only company they had.
Hikage is actually kind, but he's far too awkward to show it. Mint's often the only one who understands what he's trying to say or do, so he leaves most of his expression to her.
He trained himself to be an efficient fighter. He can battle without any direction from Darren. He's quite loyal to Darren, as is Mint. They're an inseperable trio.
Leaf
Species: LotadRelative Age: 8 or so. She's still quite immature.
Trainer: Darren Moss
1st Appearance: Chapter 10
Personality: Leaf is really bubbly and hyper. She's still just a child, so everything's a game to her. She's quite attached to Darren and Mint. Unfortunately, her favorite habit is jumping at and latching onto Darren. Evolving has made this more difficult, though.
Identifying Characteristics: Leaf is a perfectly average Lombre. She has big, cute eyes merely because she's young.
Known Backstory
Leaf never had much excitement in her life - just floating along in ponds and eating seaweed. She lived as one in a large colony of Lotad like herself.
As a curious little girl of five, she bit an inviting lure and was pulled up by a twelve year old Darren. He considered throwing her back, but she made such a fuss that she was captured in the ensuing chaos. Darren, who utterly lacks creativity, named her Leaf.
Darren may not have bonded with Leaf like his first two pokemon, but she's proved useful to him. Between her and Mint, he beat Roxanne, and she was the critical backup to Hikage in the Dewford Gym. Darren would never admit it, but he won't trade her out. Even if her cheery bubbliness grates on his nerves at times...
Red Tail
Species: TaillowRelative Age: Probably around 12. He's acts just like a boy at that age.
Trainer: Darren Moss
1st Appearance: Chapter 10
Personality: R.T. is a childish Taillow. He's headstrong and rash and likes to battle. Even Aurora has diffilculty translating what he says because he talks so fast. Sometimes he'll talk so much that he'll run out of breath mid-sentence.
Identifying Characteristics: Red Tail, as his name suggests, has a red tail instead of the regular blue.
Known Backstory
R.T. was bullied relentlessly his whole life for not blending in with the flock. He fought back at every occasion, but eventually grew lonely of the other fledglings ignoring him.
It was after such a fight that Darren found the tiny bird passed out under a tree. He considered just walking on, but then he noticed his red tail. Since Darren apparently has a thing for shiny pokemon, he captured him and added him to the team. Darren, in another bout of absolute uncreativity, named him...Red Tail. Everyone just uses R.T. by now, though.
Darren uses R.T. in the odd battle when his other pokemon don't have the advantage (his team is quite unbalanced, so this situation comes up often). Because the little bird loves to fight, he'll always give it 120%. Darren keeps him around because a) he's shiny and b) he'll be useful as a flyer. And maybe, in some corner of his heart, he's grown attached to the pokemon that he's had for over a year now.
