Final Fight One

"Classic arcade action on the run!"

The Mad Gear Gang has kidnapped Jessica, the daughter of Metro City's mayor, Mike Haggar. Haggar, along with Jessica's boyfriend Cody and the mysterious ninja Guy, have joined together to fight the Mad Gear Gang and save Jessica.

Final Fight One is a port of the arcade version of Final Fight, which came out over ten years ago.

Visuals:
The graphics look really good, even on the small screen. The graphics are almost the same as the ones found in the arcade version, but toned down a bit. New pictures have been added for each character during boss fights.

Sounds:
The GBA version of Final Fight arguably sounds better than the SNES version. Well, that's my opinion anyway. Of course, the music and sound aren't as good on the GBA as they were on the arcade version.

Gameplay:
In Final Fight One, you'll fight wave after wave of enemies, proceed to the next part of the level, and then fight more enemies. At the end of each level, you'll fight a boss. Sound repetitive? Well, it is. But the game is kind of fun if you're into the beat-'em-up genre. The Final Fight series got better and developed more as it went along.

There are initially three playable characters: Cody (the average fighter), Guy (the fastest but weakest fighter), and Haggar (the slow but powerful fighter). Pick whichever one fits you best. I usually end up picking Cody.

Replayability:
New features are unlocked after defeating X amount of enemies throughout the game. Such features include two hidden characters, Alpha Cody and Alpha Guy, two powered up versions of Cody and Guy that uses their Street Fighter Alpha 3 sprites. After you unlock everything, the replay value of FFO goes down a lot. You can link up with a friend and play co-op, however.

Bottom Line:
Final Fight One is so much better than the crappy SNES port. Anything that was missing in the SNES is in this game. Are you a fan of beat-'em-ups? Then you'll like this game. The replay value is a bit low, though.

Final Score: B-

Did You Know...?
- Mighty Final Fight, released on the NES, is a strange take of the original, complete with chibi fighters and weird storylone.
- Cody, Guy, Rolento, and Sodom (as well as Maki from Final Fight 2) have all appeared as fighters in the Street Fighter Alpha series.
- Mike Haggar is the only character that has been playable in all three Final Fight titles.
