Pink Floyd
Pink Floyd is one of the best known rock groups of all time. They released their debut album, The Piper At The Gates of Dawn in 1967. The album showed off the band's psychadelic compositions. By their second album, A Saucerful of Secrets, Syd Barrett had become mentally unstable and difficult to work with, so he was ousted and David Gilmour was brought in. With this new lineup, they recorded excellent albums, most notably 1973's Dark Side of the Moon, which has become one of the highest selling albums of all time. Their follow up albums, Wish You Were Here and Animals, were also well received by fans and critics alike. 1979's The Wall was also a massive success for the band, but by then, Roger Waters had assumed control, and fired Richard Wright. After 1983's The Final Cut, the band broke up. In 1987, Gilmour and Mason, after legal issues, reformed Pink Floyd, and released 1987's A Momentary Lapse of Reason and 1994's The Division Bell, the latter of which featured Wright as a full member once again. The band hasn't officially broken up, but has remained inactive for almost a decade. However, in June of 2005, the band played a one-off show with Roger Waters in the Live 8 series of concerts.
