Materia: As a demon, Belais can be likened to a sentient materia that is linked to and born within the blood of the Nothgalea family. Belais is a creature and master of the elemental force of air, manipulating and creating its energies as needed. To a lesser extent Belais can also influence the host body to promote healing, lend heightened senses and negate the need for physical necessities (for a time) such as food, sleep and water.

Appearance: Belais can assume any appearance or gender pleasing to his/her master, drawing on their memories, fantasies and personalities to shape his or her form. *To suit the current master, Belais has taken the form of a young woman, golden-eyed and slender with straight violet hair that falls to the middle of her back.

Background: The Nothgalea family has possessed, or been possessed depending on how one looks at it, by Belais for as many generations as the family has recorded within their family trees and archives. While there is no certainty as to how, when or why the demon came to be bound into the family, the popular belief of family members has always followed the legend of the first Nothgalea daughter to master the powers of the wind.

According to this myth, centuries ago the wealthy patron of the Nothgalea family only had a single child, a daughter, and feared that his family name would fail without a male to carry on the bloodline. So he deeded over his entire fortune to the girls dowry on the condition that her husband would have to take her name as his own, ensuring that any offspring they bore would be Nothgalea in name and in blood. When the second son of another wealthy family leapt at the chance of bettering his fortunes at the expense of his name, the young woman found herself betrothed to a man she hardly knew. Even though her father knew she was in love with another, poorer suitor who had not met with his approval.

To escape the approaching marriage, the young lovers had planned to elope, but the night she fled her house to meet her beloved in the woods, the young man vanished and was never heard from again. The young woman, who had waited alone in the wood the entire night, returned to her home the next morning with little choice but to marry her betrothed. And as years passed, children springing up from the loveless union to add to her bitterness, the love shed felt for the man whod abandoned her eventually turned to hatred.

The woman turned to learning magic; manipulating winds in hopes of finding the man whod broken her heart so she could revenge herself. Years passed before she gained mastery enough at her talent to discover what really happened that night. While shed been waiting anxiously in the woods for her lover, her betrothed had been disposing of the young mans body. Then he had calmly married her the next morning and taken her into his marriage bed with the same hands that had choked the life from the man she truly loved.

The next morning servants found her husband writhing in agony, dying slowly from a poison slipped into his drink, with the corpses of his children scattered about the house like dolls thrown around by a raging child. Only one was left alive, a boy with his mothers red hair and golden eyes. Servants took him from the grisly murder scene into his grandfathers home to be raised as the aging mans heir but the childs mother was never seen or heard from again.

From that generation on, the firstborn son with the Nothgalea coloring seemed to be unusually favored by luck and blessed with insight that let them excel in social and materialistic pursuits. It was almost as if some force guided their decisions and offered counsel on the hearts and will of the people around them. As for the favored heirs, within the secrecy of the family they attested to seeking an entity within the winds, one that watched over and spoke to them. An entity that eventually came to be known as Belais.
