His ability in warfare was noticed by President Shinra and he was appointed as an instructor for SOLDIERs. He taught them tactics, firearms and swordplay. Years ago he was the one who trained the great Sephiroth in the ways of the sword. By the time Shinra fell Ashura was considered too old to be on the frontlines and was left in the city to watch his pupils fall with the city. But he survived. The illness took over him but soon he found the strength he had as a youth returning to him. He found that he could once again wield his great weapon as he did in his SOLDIER days.
