To my reviewers – thank you all so much! No, I repeat, Yellow is not going to be in this story! Why do I have to keep repeating myself? Remember, Red has Pika and his pokemon with him, and I gave him Johto pokemon because it fit better for my fic.

Episode 3:  Magma eruption! Fire vs. Ground!

“So, now, for the second round at the Rock Field, we have the Red trainer Ash Ketchum versus the Green trainer, Theodore! Take your positions!”

Red touched his three poke balls. * I think I’ll use Venus first… *

“Go, Magmar!” Theodore shouted, sending out his first pokemon.

Red looked at the terrain carefully. * I’m not sure if a rock pokemon would work against it… so I’ll try something else. * He put Venusaur’s poke ball back down and reached for a different one.

“Good thing I brought you along. Sandshrew, I choose you!”

“Ash has a Sandshrew?” Oak asked incredulously. “And I never knew! But I didn’t know he had a Gyrados either… why didn’t he tell me?”

“I don’t know.” Delia replied, her eyes fixed on her ‘little boy’. “Ash seems to have grown taller since he left for his journey.”
            “Probably.” Oak said.

“Sandshrew, Sand-Attack!” Red said. Sandshrew nodded and sprayed sand into Magmar’s eyes so it couldn’t see.

“Darn it! Magmar, use Fire Blast to hit that little thing!” Theodore said.

“Dig!” Sandshrew dove underground and began digging its way underneath Magmar. Magmar became enraged and started throwing Fire Punches every which way.

“Now!” Red said. Sandshrew shot out of the earth and hit Magmar with the full power of the ground-type attack.

            Magmar fell over.

“Magmar is unable to battle! Ash wins the first round!”

Theodore grit his teeth. “Fine then, try this! Blastoise, go! Hydro pump!”

“Swift!” Red called, hoping to do at least some damage. * Shoot. I’ll just have to recall Sandshrew… *

The stars hit Blastoise, but just bounced off its shell. Red fervently prayed to Lugia and the other legendary pokemon that Sandshrew would be okay.

“Sand-Attack!” Red called, as Blastoise still hadn’t managed to hit the agile little pokemon with its cannons yet. Sandshrew nodded in agreement and kicked sand into Blastoise’s eyes, like it had done to Magmar earlier.

            “Tackle! Crush it!” Theodore yelled.

Blastoise charged towards Sandshrew, intent on flattening the little pokemon. Sandshrew quickly dove underground and shot a hail of Poison Stings at Blastoise, but the water pokemon was again unaffected.

Red thought hard. * It can’t hit Sandshrew, because Sandshrew is too fast… but Sandshrew’s attacks aren’t getting past Blastoise’s defense… what if I try… *

            “Fissure!”

Sandshrew’s face lit up in a little grin as it dug its claws into the earth.

“Shoot! Hydro Pump!” Theodore shouted. The best he could hope for was a double K.O. * I hope this works… *
As soon as Sandshrew’s Fissure flung Blastoise into the air, it hit Sandshrew full blast with a Hydro Pump. Milliseconds later, both pokemon fainted.

“Both pokemon are unable to battle! This round ends in a tie!” Shouted the announcer.

Red recalled his fainted Sandshrew. “You did great, Sandshrew.”

Theodore reached for his last poke ball. “What are you waiting for?” He demanded.

Misty ground her teeth softly. * Such a rude person shouldn’t be a pokemon trainer at all. * She thought.

            “Cream him Ash!” Brock shouted.

Red nodded and reached for another poke ball. “Venus, I choose you!” Venusaur materialized on the field and yawned.

“Nidorino, I choose you!” Theodore called. “Horn attack!”

“Sweet Scent.” Red said nonchalantly. As soon as the Nidorino got close, it was hit full in the face by a blast of perfume.

“Now use Solarbeam.” Venus nodded as she charged up for Solarbeam, before releasing the energy at the Nidorino, which was still stunned from the Sweet Scent. Nidorino fell over with little swirls for eyes.

“Nidorino is unable to battle! Red wins this match!” Misty and Brock jumped up and cheered.

“He’s gotten better.” Gary muttered as he and his cheerleaders left the stands.

“Are you sure? Maybe he’s just lucky.” Ruby said.

“You’re right!” Gary said enthusiastically. “I’ll cream him, just you wait!”

            His cheerleaders all nodded together.

As soon as Red left the stadium, Ash’s mom and professor Oak accosted him.

“Ash! How have you been? I’m so glad we got to see you! Are you surprised? Did you remember to change your underwear?” Delia shouted. * Oh, he’s grown so much! *

“You’ve grown taller, Ash. And where did you get a Sandshrew and a Venusaur?”

Red smiled. “Well, I found Sandshrew, and Bulbasaur evolved.” He said proudly.

“Oh my little boy! I’m so proud of you!” Delia went into hysterics and fawned over Red for a good twenty minutes before he managed to excuse himself.

“Mom, I’m kind of tired. And I need to take my pokemon to the center.”
“All right, see you later.” Delia said as she and Oak left.

Red headed for the park, not for the pokemon center, as he had told his parents. Misty and Brock followed, a few steps behind. He didn’t seem to notice their presence.

The park was beautiful. Graceful fountains, winding paths, bushes sculpted in elegant designs, statues of marble. The grass was rich and green everywhere. Red headed into a slightly forested section and opened his poke balls. Pokemon poured out, happily running and dancing around. Misty and Brock stared in awe. None of them fought, even the rarities or the ones known to be bad-tempered.

“Now who’s hurt?” Red asked in a soft voice. He had Sandshrew in his arms. A few other pokemon came up.

“Okay. Just a minute.” Red closed his eyes and a soft golden glow surrounded him. When it cleared, Sandshrew was fully healed. He did the same to the other pokemon that were wounded.

Misty and Brock’s jaws dropped again. “Wow… Red, this is amazing!”

Red put down the baby Pidgey and smiled a little bit. “It’s known as the viridian variant. People who are born in the Viridian Forest sometimes receive some of the forest’s powers.”
Misty and Brock nodded in unison. “Are you going to go back to the pokemon center now?”

Red nodded. “I need a break.”

His friends agreed, and the Trio started back to the center.

            “Prepare for Trouble!”

            “And make it double!”

“To protect the world from devastation!”

“To unite all peoples within our nation!”

“To denounce the evils of truth and love!”

“To extend our reach to the stars above!”

            “Jessie!”

            “James!”

“Team Rocket blasts off at the speed of light!”

“Surrender now or prepare to fight!”

            “Meowth, that’s right!”

“Not right now.” Red muttered. “Poli, I choose you! SURF!”

“Look’s like Team Rocket’s blasting off again!” They yelled as the strike connected.

Red looked annoyed. “Don’t they ever give up?”

“No.” Misty said. “They’ve been chasing ash for months now.”
Red sighed. * This is so annoying… *

“Let’s go back to the center.” Brock said, mistaken about Red’s sigh, thinking he was tired out.

“Yes, let’s.” Red said. They walked back towards the center.

“And Gary Oak wins this match!” The announcer cried.

            Gary posed for the camera.

“Well, do you have any words to say to our viewers?”

“Yes.” Gary said. “Ash, I’m going to become the pokemon master! Smell ya later!”

The cameraman finished taping and the TV screen shifted to another battle.

Red wanted to wipe that smirk off Gary’s face very badly, but he restrained himself.

End part 3! Gary really grinds my nerves… *Glares* Review please!
