Well, hi! Shadow finally got over her writer’s block. J So she’s decided to work on part 5 of evolutionary problems…

Disclaimer: I’m not rich enough to own much, but Destiny is mine! So are all the new attacks and pokemon, okay? The rest of the great stuff belongs to Nintendo, Game Freak, 4KIDS, etc.

Note: Ash/? It’s not AAMRN, though.

<> Is telepathy, ** is thoughts, and italics is translated poke speech.

“Gary! What is it?” Ash asked as he pulled Gary up. “Wait a minute, aren’t you dead?”

Gary shook his head. “Team Rocket didn’t kill me, only my ditto.” He sobbed for a while. “I shouldn’t have let it go! WAAAAHHHHH!”

            “Are you okay?” Ash asked.

Gary reached for the locket. “Please, sir, give it to me.”

“Oh… Allright.” Ash said. He handed Gary the locket. Gary immediately stopped sniffling and stood up. Ash was wondering why Gary hadn’t recognized him.

“Gary? Why do you want it so much?”

Gary frowned. “Because it’s my power source. Pokemon don’t like me, so this is how I attract them.”

Ash looked shocked. Imagine being so disliked by pokemon that you had to bribe them to stay with you! He felt better about the fact that he had kidnapped Gary’s pokemon. However, he had quit TR already, so it didn’t matter anymore.

“So, er, I guess I can go now.” Ash said as he hurriedly ran from the scene.

            Gary sniffled and walked off.

“Friends…” Ash sighed. “I only have my pokemon, now, even if they are family.”

Pikachu petted him on the head.

Ash sighed. He ran his fingers through his silky white hair and sighed. It had changed back after he had left TR, because it hurt him too much to see himself in the mirror, the way he had been with his spiky black hair and golden eyes.

“I know, Pikachu, I shouldn’t mope. It makes all of my pokemon unhappy as well. So what do you think I should do?”

            Get a girlfriend.

            “What? Pikachu!” Ash scolded.

Pikachu giggled. Well, it might help.

“But then I’m being disloyal to Misty… oh wait, she’s dead.”

            I’m sure she wouldn’t mind.

“Well… but I don’t like anyone in that way, Pikachu.”

            Date Moltres.

“Pikachu! She’s my older sister!” Ash scolded. “But hey, I’ll ask her. It’s just for fun, though, so no teasing!”

            It’ll be fun!

            “Pikachu…” Ash sighed. “Okay.”

Moltres shrugged. Why not? I’m bored.

“Yeah, but you have to be in human form.”

            Fine. I know.

Moltres appeared and transformed. She had wavy shoulder-length red hair, turquoise eyes, and a slender build. She was dressed in red shorts and a white t-shirt.

That’s not fair! I like Moltres! Zapdos cried.

            Ash raised an eyebrow. Really?

            Zapdos nodded enthusiastically. Yep!

Ash sighed. “I give up! You two have fun!” Zapdos’s human form was a boy with spiky black hair; only it had two white streaks running through it, and gold eyes. He looked the most like Ash out of all the legendaries. Zapdos grinned and took Moltres’s hand.

Why don’t you go train then? Pikachu queried.

Ash sweatdropped. “Pikachu, come on! Be realistic! I train a lot already!”

            Go shopping! Bulbasaur suggested.

            “Bulbasaur…” Ash sighed. “I’m not a girl. I don’t like to shop.”

            But it’s fun! Bulbasaur protested.

“How about going out for ice cream instead?”

            Okay! Several voices called.

Ash smiled and headed for the Baskin Robbins (31 flavors!) ice cream shop across the road.

“Okay, I want a pint of every flavor.” Ash said.

The person behind the counter blinked and stared. “Excuse me?”

            “You heard me.” Ash said.

The man blinked, decided that if the lunatic really wanted ice cream he’d better show him the money, and started scooping.

            45 minutes later…

Ash walked out of Baskin Robbins carrying exactly 35 pints of ice cream, aided by his eevelutions.

Yay! Yay! Ice cream! Eevee said happily.

So, what flavor do you like? Squirtle asked, happily scooping himself a bowl of Winter White Chocolate.

Bubble gum! Bulbasaur said, happily picking out the bubble gum pieces.

I don’t eat ice cream! Milktank said indignantly.

“That’s okay.” Ash said. “You can have some chocolate instead, okay?”

Mmm. Lapras said, looking at the blueberry shortcake in admiration. This flavor is so good!

            Great idea, Ash! Pikachu said.

            Yeah! Vaporeon echoed.

Ash smiled as he dug into his big bowl of chocolate fudge ripple.

However, after a few months of peaceful living, Ash got bored. He wanted adventure. He went to find Blaine.

“Hi. How may I help you?” Blaine asked.

“I want to become a pokemon researcher.” Ash replied.

“Well, what skills do you have?”

Ash thought for a moment. “Well, I took three years of pokémon medicine. I was also Supreme Champion for six years.”

Blaine considered. “I suppose you can be my assistant for the time being. Is that okay with you?”

            “All right.” Ash said.

“Hold still, Magmar!” Ash said. He was trying to wrap a bandage around the arm of the agitated fire pokemon, but it simply screeched and broke free again.

Ash sighed. You’re not giving me a choice. Haunter, use Hypnosis.

Haunter popped out and sent the fire pokemon off into dreamland. Ash finished setting the Magmar’s arm and stuck it into the rejuvenator.

Blaine came in. “How is he?”

“It’ll take a few days to recover. What happened?” Ash asked.

Blaine flinched. “My opponent used a Golem, and he got hit by Rock Throw.”

“Oh.” Ash said. “Well, are there any other injured pokemon?”

“Just one. Afterwards, you can do quiz duty.” Blaine said. “Arcanine needs some Antidote, but that’s it.”

“Okay.” Ash said. Quiz duty consisted of him sitting in the outer room of the gym and waiting for trainers to come. The trainers would go to the quiz machine and answer a question. If they failed, Ash would battle them. It was a rather simple arrangement.

Ash gave Arcanine his antidote and sat outside with a book to wait. A while later, a girl came in.

“Ooh! A quiz machine!” She said. Ash frowned behind his book as she walked over. Pretty soon there was a loud beep, which indicated that she had answered the question wrong. Ash got up and tapped her on the back.

“Excuse me, but now you have to battle me.” He said.

            “Kay! I’m Kelly!” She said.

            “Whatever. Dratini, go!” Ash said.

“Kelly chooses – Elekid!” An Elekid appeared and sparked.

            “Dratini, Twister.” Ash said.

“Elekid, Light Screen!” Kelly called. Dratini’s Twister bounced off and vaporized.

“Fine. Ice Beam.” Ash said confidently. The Elekid was immediately frozen.

            “Elekid, Thundershock!” Kelly said hopelessly.

“Dragon Rage.” Dratini obligingly finished Elekid off.

“Elekid, come back! Kelly chooses – Swinub!” Swinub let loose Ice Beam, which finished Dratini off. Ash sighed.

“It’s okay, Dratini. I know you’re weak against ice. How about if I use Squirtle?”

            Squirtle appeared and used Surf.

            “Swinub, Dig!” Kelly commanded.

Squirtle sighed and used Withdraw. When Swinub reappeared, he was knocked into the sky.

“Waterfall!” Ash said. Swinub managed to get in an Icy Wind on Squirtle, but fainted when Waterfall hit. However, Squirtle couldn’t fight, because it was frozen solid.

            “Go Fearow!” Both trainers shouted.

Ash blinked. “Uh-oh.” Fearow, use Mirror Wave, okay? Fearow nodded and the defense move came up.

“Fearow, Whirlwind!” Kelly said, counting on her luck. Ash’s Fearow was recalled and Sandslash was dragged out.

            “Sandslash, Blizzard!” Ash said.

            “Blizzard?!” Kelly queried.

The other Fearow was taken out. Ash breathed a sigh of relief.

Kelly sighed and went in to challenge Blaine. Ash picked up his book again.

A half hour later, Kelly walked out, looking forlorn. Ash supposed she had lost.

            “We’re closing!” Blaine called.

“Coming!” Ash replied. He closed his book and walked back into the gym. The outside steel doors slammed shut. Ash passed a second set of doors, these made of stone, which also closed behind him. Blaine was waiting for him.

“Is there anything else I have to do?” Ash asked.

“No. Just give the pokémon their dinner.” Blaine replied as he headed for his laboratory. Ash nodded and fed all the pokémon.

So, is this any more fun? Paras asked.

Yes. It’s different, not out traveling and catching new pokemon. Ash replied.

            I’m hungry! Kabuto announced.

Ash sighed. “Okay, I’ll get you some more poke chow. Sheesh.”

Kabuto danced around happily. Ash smiled.

“Finally!” Blaine said. Ash looked up from his microscope.

“Ash, I have managed to create the world’s first pure dark type pokémon!” Blaine announced.

            Ash stared at him. “WHAT?!”

“Come over here and look!” Blaine said. Ash ran over. Inside of the tank, there was a black raccoon-like creature suspended in liquid.

“What’s it called?” Ash asked as he pulled out his pokédex.

“I don’t know yet.” Blaine admitted.

            “How about Mysticmon?” Ash asked.

            “Why not?” Blaine shrugged.

“Cool!” Ash peered at the pokemon for a while longer, before he decided that he should get back to his work – trying to create a stone to evolve Eevee into an ice-type.

With great power comes great responsibility. A voice reminded him.

< I know, Serebii. > Ash replied. <Are you sure this is what the eevees want? >

< Yes. They want an ice-type addition to their family. >

< All right. > Ash turned back to his work. < Ice stone to evolve an eevee… that’s difficult. >

< I know, little brother, just pay more attention! > Serebi said cheerfully.

Ash groaned. < Whatever you say, big sister. >

There was a mental slap from Serebi. Ash sweatdropped.

Six weeks later, Ash was holding a silvery-blue stone with flecks of snow inside.

“Is that an Ice Stone?” Blaine asked.

“I believe so.” Ash said. He opened a poke ball and out came a male Eevee.

Hi, Destiny. What’s up? Sparky asked.

You’re the one that wanted to evolve to ice, right?

Yep. But so did Miki. Sparky said.

Okay, I’ll get her too. Ash released another Eevee. Then, he picked up the Ice Stone.

So who wants to go first?

Me! Miki said. She wagged her tail.

Ash walked over and touched her back with the Ice Stone. Instantly, Miki began to glow with a pale silver light. When it cleared, there was a graceful eevelution there, which sort of resembled a Vaporeon. It was ice blue, with two pairs of long ears, and a ridge of icy plates down its back. Purple eyes opened and peered at Ash.

            “Blizzardeon!” Miki said in pokespeech.

Cool! Sparky said enthusiastically. Can you evolve me now?

Ash walked over and placed the ice stone on Sparky as well. A dark shade of blue light surrounded him, before disappearing and revealing a completely different pokemon. Ash was shocked. This eevelution was had dark blue fur with a golden ruff and tail tip, plus two golden lightning bolt symbols on its cheeks and spiky ears like a jolteon. Dark green eyes looked at Ash in amusement.

“Stormeon!” Sparky shouted, also in pokespeech.

“Amazing!” Blaine said. “Apparently, there are different male and female versions of the ice-type eevee!”

< Serebi, you planned this! > Ash said telepathically.

< So I did, little brother. So I did. > Serebi said.

Ash frowned, but it was hard to stay mad when he saw the two newly evolved eevees playing around happily.

< So, do I have any more ‘assignments’? >

< Not right now, little brother. Have fun! >

            < Sigh. >

“Ash, you seem to be rather good at this.” Blaine remarked as Ash updated his pokédex. “I’d be glad to have you as my assistant permanently.”

“Thank you, sir.” Ash said. He recalled the two eevelutions after a few hours, because they were tired. Then, he went to bed.

End of Part 5! Remember, more reviews= faster updates. Mysticmon, Stormeon, Blizzardeon, belong to me, okay?
