Steps to compressing a Wave file, with Netshow installed using either Sound Recorder or CoolEdit96.

When converting sounds I use Sound Recorder as it is quicker (less mouse clicks), to clean up & edit a file use Cool Edit.

Sound Recorder
==============
1) Load sound
2) File | Save As
3) Name the file, I add a '2' to the end until I'm sure it sounds ok, *
4) Save as type = Sounds (*.wav)
5) Click Change
6) Format: MPEG-3
7) Attributes: 20 kBit/s. 11,025 Hz, Mono     2 KB/s
8) Click Save As... and name 'MPEG-3' (or what you want) **
9) Click OK
10) Click save *

Cool Edit

Notes:
* Make sure you change the name or you will overwrite the origional file.

** By saving this type MPEG-3 you won't need to change the Formate/Attributes each time, instead just click the down arrow below name and choose MPEG-3 (vs. Radio, Telephone or CD quality) and save.
