INTRODUCTION] Well, I rarely write FAQs, but I saw a need for one for this wonderful game as somewhat of a guide to the unlockables and interesting features found within the five games in this collection. I'm not listing a moveslist since the game features an in-game movelist. I'm not listing backstory since this exists in numerous other FAQs by wonderful people who have helped this community already - they too deserve your time. Without furtther ado, into the FAQ we go! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ [3. GAME INFORMATION] Vampire: Darkstalkers Collection is for the PS2. At the date of writing this, there is only a Japanese release with no announcement of a US release. Two of the games found in the collection were Japanese only releases, so we'll see if this collection ever sees the light of day outside of Japan. The game includes Vampire, Vampire Hunter, Vampire Savior, Vampire Savior 2, and Vampire Hunter 2. A neat and fun feature added to the collection is the Art Gallery. Here you will find artwork for all the characters throughout the series as well as a few group shots and candid pics. Vampire: Darkstalkers Collection was released on May 19, 2005. On the same date, a special Commemorative purple Sega Saturn style pad was released and included in its box is some fancy artwork. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ [4. MENU SCREENS] The main menu has six options: Vampire, Vampire Hunter, Vampire Savior, Vampire Hunter 2, Vampire Savior 2, and Art Gallery. After you enter the games, the menu consists of Arcade, Versus, Training, Option, and Exit. It's pretty basic stuff. There are Arrange versions of Vampire Savior, Vampire Hunter 2, and Vampire Savior 2 which we'll discuss in their respective areas, as well as how to access them. One thing I'd like to note on in all the games is the Screen option in the options menu. This is one of the better screen options we've seen in fighting games and allows the player to adjust the size, ratio, sharpness, and even includes a filter to remove jagged edges and clean up shadows. Personally, I prefer the default settings because I love the original games. Of course, it's purely up to you how you want to play. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ [5. VAMPIRE] Secret Character - Vampire has a roster of 10 characters initially. This can be increased (to include Pyron and Phobos) by entering the OPTION menu, then going to GAME OPTION and changing the character option. Rather simple. Secret Difficulty - Beat the game once to unlock NIGHTMARE difficulty. Secret Menu - When selecting GAME OPTION under the OPTION menu, hold L1+R1. In this menu, you'll find a list of versions with dates for their release. Below the versions is a number of stars. These stars light up when you select different versions according to what changes were made from the existing version (aka 2005/05/19.) There was changes made here and there in the game per revision and you adjust these changes one by one under the CUSTOMIZE option. Below, I've tried to list what star does what as well as numbered them for easy finding. VAMPIRE SAVIOR] Secret Character - There are a few different characters hidden in Vampire Savior. "Dark" Gallon (or VH Gallon) and Oboro Bishamon (or Dream Bishamon) may be selectable by holding START while selecting their respective normal counterparts. Both come with movelists in-game. Shadow (Soul Mode)was also introduced in this part of the series. To select Shadow, highlight the "?" on the character select screen and press START five times, then any attack button. A random character will be selected however, a shadowy figure will rise from the ground behind them. When you beat an opponent, you take their soul and become that character. Secret Difficulty - Beat the game once to unlock NIGHTMARE difficulty. Alternate Backgrounds in Versus Mode - During normal Arcade gameplay, if you encounter your midboss, you'll fight on the background of your next opponent with alternate (usually darker) colors. To select these in Versus mode, simply hold SELECT when choosing your background. Fighting Oboro Bishamon - To fight Oboro Bishamon (Dream Bishamon) after defeating Jedah (or your respective boss), you must not use Auto Mode, not lose any rounds, and finish TWO opponents with one of the below EX moves: Anakaris = Pharaoh Salvation (or) Pharaoh Decoration Aulbath = Aqua Spread Bishamon = Togakubi Sarashi Bulleta = Beautiful Memory Demitri = Midnight Pleasure Donovan = Change Immortal Felicia = Please Help Me Gallon = Moment Slice Jedah = Prova=Di=Servo Lei-Lei = Chuukadan Lilith = Gloomy Puppet Show Morrigan = Darkness Illusion Phobos = Final Guardian Beta Pyron = Cosmo Disruption Q-Bee = Plus B Sasquatch = Big Sledge Victor = Geldenheim 3 Zabel = Hell Dunk Arrange Mode - The Arrange mode adds Donovan, Pyron, and Phobos to the roster on top of all of the existing characters. To select Arrange mode from the main menu, choose your game while holding SELECT. To use Dee, press START on the "?" a total of nine times, then press an attack button. Alternatively, you can use an arrange only star to place him where the "?" resides. NOTE: Dee can only be played in Arrange mode. To choose a different character other than Dee to begin with, highlight that character first. Press START three times, then perform the random Shadow method as stated above. Arrange Mode Phobos and Donovan - In Vampire Savior, Phobos does not pause in mid-air like his Vampire Hunter incarnation. You can, however, enable his air maneuvers by holding START while selecting Phobos. He plays exactly the same and even has Cecil running beside him as usual. This also affects Donovan. Hold START while selecting Donovan to change his sword placement to distance mode (the strength kick you use determines how far away the sword is placed) like in Vampire Hunter 2. Secret Menu - When selecting GAME OPTION under the OPTION menu, hold L1+R1. In this menu, you'll find a list of versions with dates for their release. Below the versions is a number of stars. WANNA HELP?] Obviously, there is no documentation that explains the Stars in the secret menus and most of these will need to be found using trial and error. It's a pain yes, but a collective effort might someday fill this list. If you figure out what a star does, please email me and let me know so we can spread that knowledge. Also, if you find that something is wrong in this FAQ and doesn't work how I said it does, email me and we'll figure out the problem and I'll make any changes to this FAQ as needed. So you don't fall victim to a spam filter, just put "VAMPIRE COLLECTION FAQ INFO" in the subject so I'll see the message and get back to you as quickly as possible. My email address is shadowjin_gpow@yahoo.com. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ [12. THANKS] I'd like to first thank anyone and everyone who has contributed info to this FAQ and if you feel like you've been left out, please email me and I'll fix it immediately. I'd also like to thank my wife for keeping me sane and putting up with my antics since I'm nothing more than a big kid :) Thanks to Kao Megura for his wonderful FAQ on Vampire Savior for the Sega Saturn. Check out his other FAQs. RIP bro. Thanks to Felineki for his unending search for Star definitions. Without him, this FAQ could have never been so much of a help! Thanks to Clementchong for all his verification of tricks and help with the tricks overall (like the Donovan differences!!) Thanks To Soujiro Seta for how to fight against Dee in VH2A and VS2A. I'd also like to give a shout out to the Vampire Plot FAQ written by Saiki. This is an excellent guide and cleared up a few misunderstandings I had about the series. Thanks to GameFaqs and CJAYC for hosting such a wonderful (and FREE) database of info and I can only imagine how much hard work he puts in daily. Thanks to Capcom for releasing this game - I've always been an avid Vampire fan and it's my favorite 2D fighting series. Even though we haven't had a new one, I've greatly enjoyed this collection and the Chronicles collection on Dreamcast and PSP (yes, I broke down and bought it!) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ [13.
