Welcome to our website. Shadowhawk Labrador Retrievers originated in 1990 as Shadowood Labrador Retrievers. We named our kennel after our first Lab, Shadow, who entered our lives in 1976 and lived to the ripe old age of 17. We established the name to commemorate him and his happy times in our heavily treed back yard. He was such a wonderful boy, that we purchased two more, and then established our breeding program. We changed our name and expanded our breeding program after we moved onto our 5 acre ranch in the Sierra Foothills 8 years ago. A hawk was gliding over the property the day we may our decision to purchase it and cast a great shadow on the land, and therefore Shadowhawk. In 2000 we incorporated Victoria Justices', Top Gun Labradors, into our breeding program.


Our primary goal is in maintaining that wonderful disposition that this breed is known for. Our success in our breeding program is due to the support of many established experienced breeders who have been our mentors, much research into the pedigrees of our dogs and potential stud dogs, and endless love-filled hours with our Labs. We breed only OFA and CERF certified dogs. We breed for the improvement of Labrador Retrievers and for what our specific goals may be at that time. We use the Whelpwise monitoring system with each litter as it is being whelped. Our puppies are raised in our home for the first 4 weeks and then transferred to an indoor/outdoor kennel with a concrete floor covered with linolium and blankets. Socialization of the puppies is as important to us as their health, and we have many friends who help us play with the pups. We also feed Eukanuba Large Breed Puppy for two years and Large Breed Adult to our dogs. Optimal nutrition promotes sound puppies and dogs.
