This section is to list all the other things written, or with a forward, etc. by Dean Koontz. As this effort is a continual process, I'm sure it'll never be completely done. I have several new items to add as time will permit.
Non-Fiction
etc.
There were four books released in the early 70's with Dean and Gerda Koontz listed as the authors. Gerda claims she had nothing to do with them, but that the publisher added her name. Bounce Girl1970 Cameo press paperback. Super rare.
Aphrodisiac Girl1973 Same as above with a different name and publisher. Oval Press paperback. Super rare.
The Pig Society
1970 Aware Press paperback. Super rare. DK has stated that he does not count this, or the book which follows amongst his published works, because the publisher changed so much of the original manuscript.
The Underground Lifestyles Handbook
"The first true account...
Making love commune-style, body painting, making sex films, getting busted for pot, the love life of a groupie, Woodstock, Hair and more!"1970 Aware Press paperback. #OAW-9503. Illustrations by Doug Lovenstein. Super rare. The publisher made it sound as though the Koontz couple did it all!
There is also a gothic romance novel, similar to the Deanna Dwyer books, written by Gerda Ann Cerra. DK's wife's maiden name.
Several years ago, I came across this title, while searching a thrift store for Dwyer books. I noticed the character's name was Leigh, and that the book was dedicated to Dean. I snapped it up, thinking I had discovered a new pseudonym. Upon research, I discovered that virtually everyone knew about it, and that it was written by Gerda.
I didn't get my ten minutes of fame after all.A Darker Heritage
"On the sheet of red velvet lay a human heart. It was all brown and withered, but still recognizable, with the veins and arteries trailing from it like colored strings. As I watched, it moved, It beat..." 1972 Lancer paperback. Number 75294-095, $0.95. Most Koontz collectors would agree that Dean, in the very least, played an advisory role in this book. She received an advance payment to release another title, but Lancer went under before its release.
1972 Magnum paperback. Number 75294, $1.50. As with the Deanna Dwyer books, the Magnum releases were basically the exact same thing, only with the Magnum label used, and in this case a higher list price.
Non-Fiction
What Do Editors Mean When They Say..."Sorry, But The Motivation Is Missing?"
"The author is a 23 year old high school English teacher who sold his first story in 1967. Since then, he's sold nine other stories, half a dozen novelettes and three novels(all to Ace). His hope: full-time freelancing."Writer's Digest, March 1969. Vol. 49, No. 3, 50 cents. To the best of my knowledge, his first published article in a major publication. Koontz gives a list of seven things that would motivate charactors, in a story, to do what they do. Along with warnings about there use. Love, Curiosity, self-preservation, greed, self-discovery, duty and revenge.
Much of this info went on to become a chapter of "Writing Popular Fiction".Men On The Moon
"It may be fashionable, even considered intellectual, to project our somewhat psychotic past onto our future."
DK1969 anthology includes the essay "That Moon Plaque". Edited by Donald A. Wollheim (DAW books sound familiar?). SBN 441-52470-060, 60 cents. Originally released in 1958, this later edition comes with a new introduction, as well as the original. Cover art by Gray Morrow. Includes stories by Raymond Z. Gallun, A. Bertram Chandler, Frank M. Robinson, H. B. Fyfe and Murray Leinster. Many authors contributed to "Moon Plaque".
