"Neophytes, initiates, have to pass through Nine Degrees of Initiation."
First Degree: The first degree of initiation, the master will throw the student into a state of doubt about all conventional ideas, religious and political as it pertains to Gor. The Master will use false analogy and every other device of argument to make the initiate believe that what he had been taught by any previous mentors was prejudiced and capable of being challenged. This in turn will cause the initiate to lean fully upon the personality and wisdom of the mentor, to view the mentor as the only possible source of information or possible interpretation of facts. The mentor is to continually hint around that formal knowledge is merely the cloak for hidden, inner and a more powerful truth, whose secret shall be imparted when the initiate is ready to receive it. This is called the "confusion technique" and is to be carried out until the student reaches the stage where he is prepared to swear a vow of blind allegiance to one or other of his teachers.
Second Degree: The initiate is to be taught to believe that the PK's approval cannot be won by adhering to the prescriptions of the Codes of the Black Caste, unless the inner Doctrine of Codes, of which the members are mere symbols, be received from the Jihadhi to whom its guardianship has been entrusted.
Third Degree: The initiate is instructed as to the nature and number of Master Assassins whom sit upon the council, and is taught to recognize the significance in the spiritual and physical worlds of teachings from the Jihadhi of the Codes of the Black Caste in which He represents. He is thus definitely detached from the Council of the Black Caste, the Sect of Three, and the initiate is taught to regard the three names of the Council in high esteem, that all other persons not of the caste of black devoid of spiritual knowledge and unworthy of reverence.
Fourth Degree: The initiate is now taught the Doctrine of the Caste of Black, the Codes of the Caste of Black, and the History of the Shadowed Windz. This teaching involves the admission that there are no other castes and no other brotherhoods as important at that of the Caste of Black. The word of the Council of the Caste of Black is law and the Guild of the Shadowed Windz is their temple. There is no other stone or camp that is held before the guild, no other brother or family held as high as those of the Council of the Caste of Black. That there is no bond greater than that of the Caste of Black. Blood in, Death out.
Fifth Degree: Here the initiate is taught the meaning of his Codes of the Caste of Black and his obligations to them and the guild. He will be asked and tested by his mentor of his interpretations and knowledge of the Codes of the Caste of Black. He will learn the importance of conduct, the adherence to judges and laws that govern a city.
Sixth Degree: Here the initiate is taught the importance of rites upon taking a mark; the proper dress, the proper weaponry, and the proper technique in concealment and hunting. He will discard many of the traditional methods of entering cities as stated by the laws of the Ubar or Administrators of that city. He will learn to speak with respect towards those in and among that homestone of his intended mark so as to reflect that he has been trained and deserves respect for his caste. His intentions upon entering that city will be of peace until he comes to collect the mark.
Seventh Degree: To this and the following degrees, only the leading initiates, who fully comprehend the real nature and aim of their doctrine of the Codes of the Caste of Black, will be initiated. At this point is introduced the doctrine in the Art of Death, the killing blows and the use of weaponry to complete the contract and deal with the mark.
Eighth Degree: Here the last doctrine method is the use of poison, how it is developed and applied and the various types. The initiate will have graduated to becoming a Fida'i, a destroying angel for the Council. The mentor will decide upon whom the mark of black will fall upon, depending on performance and survival. The Fida'i will receive his killing knife and be granted acceptance into the Guild of the Shadowed Windz by the Council. He will be let loose upon the world of Gor as the harbinger of Death.
Ninth Degree: In this the last degree of initiation, every vestige of training and instruction will be applied in a surmise of knowledge and brought before the Council in petition to become a Master Assassin, or Du'i (Da'i Marshal), able to train in the Guild or pass on into the world of Gor to ply his trade in adherence to the Doctrines of the Caste of Black. If he so chooses to stay, he will further his training and knowledge and be tested to be able to sit on the Council of the Guild. The Du'i (Da'i Marshal) is now ready to make use of the power which is ready to be awakened within him, and overcome those who know nothing of the immense potential of the rest of humanity. To qualify for the ninth degree, the aspirant has to believe that all teachings before the caste were fraudulent. All that mattered was the gold, the steel, and the Caste of Black, and the individual, who could attain fulfillment only through the servitude to the greatest developed power - the Jihadhi. The ninth degree brought the revelation of the secret that there was no such thing as belief: all that mattered was gold and steel. And the only possessor of the reasons for carrying out any action was the chief of the sect, the Da'i 'd-Du'at (Chief Da'i). In this last degree, the Du'i (Da'i Marshal), or Master Assassin is no longer a student of the arts of death but now a philosopher.
