| Personality: Being ranked high among the rats has forced Martina to grow up at
last. She can at times be sombre and always takes rat matters seriously.
However, when nothing serious is at hand, Martina is quite the passionate and
cheerful girl she used to be. Having visited her relations in Italy, she now
mixes up Italian and American more than ever when she gets excited. Her
feelings towards the vampires are still mixed and she knows that the addiction
to vampire bites is something she’ll have to battle against for a long time.
Martina is a mean fighter, not above using karate or non-silver bullets to get
her point across. She likes a good fight first and good sex after. In addition
to this, she has an addictive personality, she gets easily addicted to things.
Martina’s collection of rubber ducks has now filled three cardboard boxes and
is still expanding.
Family: Juliana (mother, alive), Hans (father, alive), Nikolai (older brother,
alive), Alex (older brother, alive)
History: Martina was born in Italy to a mixed couple. Her father was Norwegian, and his
mother Italian. Martina worships her older brother Alex, and used to follow him
everywhere. The family spent summer vacations in Norway, but the only Norwegian
Martina really knows well is the swear words. When Martina was born, the whole
family decided to move to Ohio, America, since her mother had gotten a job as
psychologist there. Her father decided to start up the practice he had left in
Norway, and created a judo school that quickly became popular. Judo soon became
the passion in the Seahorn family, and Martina followed the example of her
elder brothers, training judo as much as she could in order to be a match for
both of them. But when she was 14, Alex got lycanthropy and was ushered out of
the family. Martina was completely crushed, but there wasn’t anything she could
do about it. She tried to run away from home, but was kindly picked up by the
police and grounded thoroughly. The years went by, and at age 19, Martina found
herself in an unhealthy relationship. The guy she was dating, Robert, liked to
verbally abuse her, making her feel tiny and worthless. She went to her brother
and learned the merged judo-karate in an attempt to boost her self-esteem. She
got very good, but it didn’t work. Then Robert tried to beat her up. Martina
cleaned the floor with him, finally realizing that it was him who was worthless
not her. She moved back to the family home while the police did their work.
Robert got a restraining order. Martina couldn’t stand the thought of being in
the same city as him. At the same time she had a small breakthrough. She had
secretly searched for Alex, and found his phone number, and now she found out
he was in Boston. It was perfect. She told her family that she needed to get
away, and that she would move to Boston for a while. Gathering savings and
clothing, Martina packed and set out. She found Alex in Boston and was allowed
to share apartment with him.
Not long after moving to Boston, Marty started going out with the local Brenin,
and eventually persuaded him to infect her with lycanthropy. Her brother threw
a small fit when he found out, but they worked through it and kept up their
friendship. She rose quickly in the rodere, soon becoming Brys’s lieutenant.
Then Martina broke up with Brys after a particularly nasty argument. She turned to Hailey and Gabe, werefoxes who she didn’t know very well before waking up in
bed with them. She tried getting over Brys with their help, but it was of no
use. Brys went home to Wales to spend time with his family and get his
priorities in line again, which forced Martina, who by now was the most
powerful rat in the clan, to take up position as a leader. It was terrifying
for her, and she turned first to drink, then to vampires during her free hours.
However, her addictions had to come to an end, and she ended it herself, having
realized that although getting bitten by vampires was glorious, it wasn’t worth
the weakness that followed. Stopping altogether proved too hard for her at that
time. When Brys returned, drawn by a crisis within the clan, Martina kept her
addiction a secret until she had managed to rid herself of it. This also taught
her how to lie by omission, which made her feel more distant from her ex-lover
than ever. However, they made an attempt of getting back together, and the
relationship still holds even though it can be rickety at times.
When the shifter plague started killing off lycanthropes, Brys could only be
thankful that his people seemed to be unaffected by it. However, it did get
him to thinking that two leaders were better than one, and made Martina
officially Dronning, or Rat Queen. Martina was glad to finally get te official
title, although she had pretty much taken it for her own from the moment she
had had to lead the clan alone. Back then it hadn’t been official, now it
finally was.
Strengths: Her complete ruthlessness in a fight, her sense of justice, agility,
her ability to lie convincingly
Weaknesses: her addictive personality, vampires and alcohol, she’s a bit of an
exhibitionist which isn’t always good when trying to stay unnoticed, no sense
of direction, and she’s completely incapable of keeping a fire going.
