SUMMERTIME and the LIVING is GOOD!!!

COREY HART took the music industry by storm with his debut album in 1983.  "SUNGLASSES AT NIGHT"  and "IT AIN'T ENOUGH" went on to become hit singles.  All of a sudden the world wanted  more COREY!!!

And BOY did they get it!!!   BOY IN THE BOX that is...

Corey was not satisfied to sit back on his laurels after the success of his first album.  Instead he worked diligently and put all his effort not only into touring, but also into preparing the tracks for his second album.  Although the record company(AQUARIUS RECORDS LTD.) had allowed Corey to actively participate in the preparation of the first album, by the time he went into the studio to record BOY IN THE BOX -- Corey was already a proven commodity.  So Corey was very involved not only in the recording but also in the mixing and production of his second album.  He knew how he wanted the album to sound, and he followed his own instincts...

WELL!!!  Those instincts turned out to be right on the money!!!

BOY IN THE BOX became a huge success worldwide.  The song "NEVER SURRENDER" was a song that Corey felt was the most natural expression of his own feelings.  He stated that if he had followed his initial instincts that the song would have been on his first album--that the words had always been inside him(but the melody came just a little later!!).  He said that it almost seemed TOO SIMPLE to write a song about following your dreams because those words were what he had almost felt to be most true in life.

Well I, for one, am pretty glad he decided to write "NEVER SURRENDER".  That song has been such an inspiration for so many people, and it will forever be one of my favorites.

"NEVER SURRENDER" was by far not the only single to be released off that album.  Other singles included "EVERYTHING IN MY HEART"(written as a tribute to Corey's fans), "BOY IN THE BOX"(written as a tribute to the late James Dean), and "EURASIAN EYES"(written as a tribute to his lovely high school sweetheart Erika Gagnon).

Corey and Erika were together for 14 years.  They met in high school when Corey was around 18 years old and Erika was 16 years old.  They eventually went on to marry on May 31, 1990--which was also Corey's 28th birthday.  Theirs was quite a love story--in the song "EURASIAN EYES" Corey speaks of his passion and it is very easy to see that their love for each other went very deep.  Sadly, their marriage only lasted a few short years--the breakup being very hard and painful on both.  But they still remain friends, and as Corey has stated "the flow of love doesn't stop...".

So both of them have moved on in their lives.  Many of Corey's fans will remember how  Erika helped Corey answer fan letters and I am sure that I speak for all fans when I say that we wish her nothing but happiness.  Corey has started a family with the lovely Julie Masse(3 kids and counting...) He dedicated his 7th album to Erika(...ancient souls from ancient times run deeper...).  But now I am getting ahead of myself.

Let's get back to 1985...

Oh yeah...

Did You Know???

The song "WATER FROM THE MOON" was a very special song for Corey to write--holding a great deal of meaning to him personally.
Corey originally had to push to have this song included on the album. But afterwards Aquarius management realized that this song mattered a great deal.  If you read the lyrics you will understand why...

        WATER FROM THE MOON
(words by Corey Hart//music by Corey Hart,
  Russell Boswell--1985 Liesse Publishing co.)
---------------------------------------
when i was a young boy
i called to my dreams
prayed to a god that would know

said i walk a thousand miles
to take one step
when does your vision show?

then one day i found myself
lost in the sand
staring at the foolish stars
the innocent, so wise
claim that soon
you can draw your water from the moon
you can draw your water from the moon

now see the sunlight
and it's shinin' in my eyes
will i keep the distance from the shore?
understand the mystery
that i tried to ignore
now i say now i say no more

prophet told the blind man
that one's hope
something that you cannot see
take your right of passage
through the dune
where you can draw your water from the moon
you know where you can draw your water from the moon

now i see the sunlight
it's shinin' in my eyes
will i keep the distance from the shore
i understand the mystery
that i tried to ignore
now i say now i say no more

when i was a young boy
i prayed to my dreams
through melody and rhyming words
whenever i must face
days of gloom
i can draw my water from the moon
(you know) i can draw my water from the moon

i can draw my water from the moon
i've drawn my water from the moon
cos you can draw your water from the moon
i said i've drawn my water from the moon

      EURASIAN EYES
(words and music by Corey Hart--1985 Liesse
     Publishing Co.)

-------------------------------

eurasian eyes are watchin' me
like a river, o you flow through me
eurasian eyes are runnin' still
whispered moments cut the chill
when eurasian eyes are watchin' me

DO YOU FEEL THE PASSION IN ME?

cos i'm the one that said i'd never care
for someone like you
now i'm the one who lacks the eloquence to say

   (CHORUS 1)

(to say) that when the world is cold
with no one to hold
i can only see eurasian eyes
love won't lie
'cause the truth would cry
that i can only see eurasian eyes

eurasian eyes inspire me
look for the magic until i see
eurasian eyes so honestly

DO YOU FEEL THE PASSION IN ME?
'cause i'm the one who said i'd never care
for someone like you
now you're inside me and i won't defend
what i want to do for you

(but i said)
now i'm the one who lacks the eloquence
to say, to say

     (CHORUS 2)

when the world is cold
with no one to hold
i can only see eurasian eyes
(you know) if love won't lie
cos the truth would cry
i can only see eurasian eyes
and if my heart is blind
then why do i find
that i can only see eurasian eyes

    (REPEAT CHORUS 2)
