The Must Read Book List

The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux
Summery: Christine Daae is the newest star performer at the Paris Opera House, but she has been dissapearing lately, sometimes days at a time. When Viscomte Raoul de Chagny falls in love with her, he is determined to find out what it is that is hurting Christine so terribly. But what does all this have to do with the legend of the Phantom of the Opera?
Comments: The book starts out a bit slow, and comes to a gruling pace when the managers are talking after Christine has dissapeared, but, in general, it's a fast paced book that I could not put down! Imagining the characters singing helps to get through the boring parts.

Les Miserables by Victor Hugo
Summery: All Jean Valjean did was steal a loaf of bread. It will eventually land him twenty years in the prison of Toulon. However, once on parole, there is hope on the horizon, for a kindly bishop takes pity on the wreched man, and even saves him from rearrest, changing Valjean's life forever. But Cheif Inspector Javert does not believe in these changes to readily, and will stop at nothing to put prisoner 24601 back behind bars.
Comments: It is a must read, but a boring read, in my opinion. However, for those of you, like myself, who adoare the musical, you really need to read the book. The change a bit too many things in the musical for comfort, and Eponine isn't really all that nice.

The Scarlet Pimpernel by Baroness Orczy
Summery: Marguerite's new marriage to Sir Percy Blakeny has hit the rocks after lies and betrayl rip their trust of each other in two. Even after leaving revolution stricken Paris, Citozen Chauvelin reminds her that she can never escape her French blood, when he blackmails her into helping him find the elusive Englishman who is saving hundreds of aristos from Madame Guillotine - the Scarlet Pimpernel.
Comments: Romantic thriller at it's finest! It is also very clever and funny, and keeps you guessing right up until the very end. However, getting copies of the elusive book is hard. Check out Blakeney Manor which has e-text to all the books!

Pride and Predjudice by Jane Austin
Summery: Elizabeth Bennet has always known that, since her family is a bit poor, she'd never get the exact cream of the crop when it comes to picking husbands, but when she unintentionally causes the proud and handsome Mr. Darcy to fall in love with her, it help to set forth a series of events that no one would have expected.
Comments: Stunning book! I also recomend the A&E movie, which has almost every single line in it, and portrays the book absolutely perfectly.

The Horse Goddess by Morgan Llywelyn
Summary: Epona, the daughter of the cheif of the Kelti village, has a connection with animals, especially horses, which means she might be Druii! However, she does not want to submit to the life of a priestess, and when a band of horse warriors arrives in her village, she runs away with them. Now, in love with the leader, Kazhak, the high priest of her village stalks her, determined to bring her home.
Comments: a wonderful, superb novel! It's the story of the celtic gods as they would have probably actually lived. Llywelyn paints a stirring picture. It's a book you'll never want to put down! Seriously! My friends and I are thinking of starting a fan club for it XD!

Kleopatra by Karren Essex
Summary: Young Princess Kleopatra is her father's favorite child. She speaks several languages, and has captured the people's hearts as her portrayl of Isis. And when her father is exiled to Rome, Kleopatra follows, wanting to see the city of so much intrigue. In fact, if she doesn't, her life may be in danger!
Comments: This is a book that grabs you and never let's go. It's a bit graphic (Thank's Keagen. I would have liked to have a warning about that e.e), but certainly not lude. It has all the lusts, corruption, and enchantment that ancien Alexandria would have had.

More to come!
