:Look at this, Jenna,: Daisuke sent excitedly. :Isn't it beautiful?:
:Yes, love.: Jenna agreed, picking her way to stand next to him near the  river bank. :It's very beautiful.:
:I only wish I had have been able to see things like this when I was a kid,:  his mind voice had a hint of wistfulness in it. :Maybe I wouldn't have become so  hopeless. Maybe I wouldn't have been taken by Feliah. I hated it there. He made  all of us kids do all of his work. If I'd have had something this beautiful to  hope for on the streets I may never have agreed to work for that man after being  caught steeling.:
Jenna whickered and lay her elongated chin on his shoulder, trying to comfort  her chosen. :If things hadn't have happened the way they did you may have never  become my chosen. It's what happens in our lives that shape who we will be in  the future.
:You're right,: Daisuke buried his face in the Companions silvery mane.  :You're the best thing that's ever happened to me and I wouldn't give you up for  the world.:
:Not even a certain violet eyed Herald who seems to be watching us even now,:  she teased, trying to lighten the mood.
:Not even-Wait did you say watching us?: Daisuke whirled around to face a  rather startled Ken Ichijouji. "What are you doing out here?" he asked a little  too sharply than he had meant.
Ken's eyes flashed with hurt before they turned emotionless. "I came to see  where you'd gone off to. The Waystation was suddenly quiet and I had wondered if  you were getting into trouble. Again."
The burgundy haired boy blushed and ran his hand through his hair. "Sorry,  didn't mean to snap. You just interrupted a bit of a private moment. I don't  tend to angst when anyone?s around."
Ken nodded, though his expression didn't change. Diasuke had come to know him  well enough to know that his apology had done next to nothing to make the older  man feel any better. With a sigh he walked over and placed his hand on Ken's  shoulder. "I really meant I'm sorry. It's just that I was remembering some  things I'd rather not remember. When that happens I'm not always in the best  mood."
"It's alright, Dai," Ken said finally, using the nickname he'd given Daisuke  almost sadly. "I shouldn't have intruded."
He turned to leave but Daisuke's grip tightened. "It's not alright. You're  still upset, Ken. I should have known better than to react as harshly as I did.  You're sensitive to these things. You had every right to come looking for me."
Ken regarded him carefully, something hidden in his eyes. Daisuke felt a  stirring of his usual desire as the older Herald didn't move away from his  touch. "Dai, I...."
"What is it?"  Come one. Ken, say it. Just please say it. I can't do  anything until you say something. I know you feel the same. I just need you to  say it.
"I... can't. I'm your mentor. It's not right."
Cinnamon eyes flamed into life as Daisuke had to stop Ken from leaving yet  again, this time grabbing both the Heralds slime shoulders. "Is it because your  mentor or because we're both male? You know as well as I do that many  relationships spring up during a circuit with only the mentor and trainee. Is it  because you're afraid of what people might say when we return to Haven? Are you  that caught up in what people really think?"
Violet eyes widened in shock and Ken started to stutter. "O-of c-c-c-course  not. I'm j-just af-fraid of what might happen to you when-"
"I don't care, Ken!" Daisuke flared again. "No ones likes me anyone. Everyone  know I'm shaych and that think that I've been after Takeru since arriving in  Haven." Daisuke's voice dropped as his expression turned sad. "If it really  matters that much we can keep it secret or we can end it when we get back. I  don't care... I just want to be with you, Ken, no matter for how long." A single  tear made it's way down his tanned cheek, leaving a wet trail in it's wake.
Ken shook his head furiously, hair whipping about his face. "No, no, Daisuke.  I'm not ashamed of being with you. You're wonderful. It's me. If you knew what I  had done, if you knew who I really am it's you who would be ashamed. I don't  want to have you then have you leave."
"You're a Herald," Daisuke sniffed. "Heralds can't be bad. If they were they  would have never been chosen."
Ken shook his head again, pain and sorrow showing in his very expression. "I  manipulated people. My gift came early and I made people do things I wanted them  to do, made them think things I wanted them to think. I killed someone, Dai. I  made them think they were seeing something so frightening that they went mad and  killed them self." He sank to his knees, slim frame racking with sobs. "It was  all my fault. I killed him."
Daisuke knelt next to him, his arms clutching the man to his chest. He  brushed indigo-tinted hair from Ken's face and whisper to him quietly. "Shhhh.  It was an accident. I'm sure you didn't mean for this person to die."
Ken clung to him, head buried on his tunic. Daisuke saw over his shoulder  that Jenna had left quietly, no doubt not wanting to intrude on the rather  delicate moment. He ran a gentle hand through Ken's shoulder, trying to calm  him. "I'm not horrified or ashamed. I understand what some people are forced to  do in order to survive. I was forced into so many things that I'd like to  forget. I know you well enough to know it wasn't on purpose."
"But I still did it. I was still the cause of it."
"What happened, Ken? I won't understand this completely until I know what  brought it on." Daisuke knew as well as the next person that sometimes it helped  to get things out in the open, to tell someone. Knowing Ken, he had probably  never told anyone aside from his Companion.
The Herald took a few deep breaths, trying to dispel his sobs and began  without looking up, his eyes staying on Daisuke's chest. "I was about thirteen.  I had a family once, a good family I can remember. Something had happened to  them when I was young so I had ended up living on the streets in a city just  outside of Valdemar. My gifts had come just a year ago; mind-speech. I could  make people hear my thoughts and hear their thoughts in return. I used this to  make them think they were the ones thinking my thoughts. At first it was just  small things like giving me bread, but then I turned to other things like money  and jewelry. Well, one night while in a tavern, using what money I had been able  to get I was approached." He paused here, a tremor going through his body.  Daisuke tightened his arms to comfort him. "He was a huge man, so much more  bigger than me despite the fact that I had just sprouted up. He was wide, his  arms and legs seeming more like tree trunks. Well, he bent over the table I was  sitting on, so close that I could smell the alcohol on his hot breath. He  grabbed my arm and pulled me out the door before I could say anything or anyone  could notice. After that he took me toward an alley. I.... I realized what he  meant to do then."
Tears started to rain down his cheeks and Daisuke wipped them away as his  mind whirled with the horror of what this man had gone through at such a young  age. Ken looked up at him finally, his eyes vacant with the remembered fear.
"I tried to fight him off physically at first, but he only laughed and said  he liked them feisty. As he started to rip at my c-c-clothes I lost it...   My gift went wild with such a force that it sent him stumbling backwards. He was  hearing my fear. That was when I made him see it. I searched for his most  horrifying memory and made him see his own monster over and over until he  started clawing at his hair. He ran off and threw himself off a bridge, hitting  his head on a rock."
"But that's not your fault at all. You were just protecting yourself," he  took a deep breath and caught Ken's gaze with his own. "If you're damned to be  alone for protecting yourself, then so am I and numerous others. I did more  things that you could dream of, but with the intent to harm."
The other Herald looked like he was going to protest, but Daisuke stopped him  with a soft kiss. Ken stiffened momentarily before advancing and bringing their  lips together with a desperation tht almost sent Daisuke reeling. The  Firestarter brought his hands up to comb through silken hair, fingers gentle,  still trying to comfort.
"Dai...." Ken pulled away to look at him, expression one of mixed desire and  hope. He leaned back in and Diasuke was quite willing to give himself over to  the older man. Maybe this was just what Ken needed, to know that someone cared  for him despite his past and Daisuke did. He cared more for this man than he had  cared for anyone in his entire life.

Shade: Too short... Damn FF.net and the nc-17 ban! This would be lemon other  wise, than the chapter would be long enough. I need 200 more words before I'll  be satisfied. There may not be a chapter for a little while. I should really  work on getting over me block for Inspiration, even if I can't really post the  next chapter here. Well, I'm being rushed to bed (despite it only being 9  o'clock!) Hope to see some wonderful reviews.
