THIS GAME DOES NOT SAVE PROGRESS!! It will also try to make you start over if you lose all your lives. Make sure to use the emulator's save state feature often.

This is Sonic the Hedgehog 2. You won't get to watch the movie here (sorry!) but you can play the 1992 Sega Genesis classic. (or Sega Mega Drive classic, if you're in the other side of this rock)

This version includes the dropdash from Sonic Mania! Credit to MainMemory for implementing this into the game (it's a ROM hack).

It's really easy to play; you only need one button aside from the arrows. If you haven't played 2D Sonic before, let me try to explain everything:

When the title screen with Sonic and Tails shows up, press enter to start the game
Left and right arrow keys to move. make Sonic walk for a few seconds and he'll start running.
Up to make Sonic look up, down to make him crouch. Hold either for a bit and the camera will pan to show you what's above or below you
Use Z to jump! Tapping Z vs holding it make jumps of different heights. (X and S do the same shit, but Z is the superior choice)
Press down while running or going down a slope and Sonic will start rolling. As long as he's spinning, he'll destroy most enemies he touches. This is a "spin attack".
When Sonic jumps, he also spins and also destroys enemies. This is a "Spin Jump". Keep in mind jumping on a spring will make him stop spinning though.
Need a boost? Press the Jump button a few times while crouching and you'll "spindash". Basically Sonic will rev up and gather speed, then dash off and spin attack.
Or, jump, let go of the button, and then press and hold the button again, and when you touch the ground you'll immediately dash ahead! This is a dropdash, and it wasn't in this game originally.
Keep your rings! If an enemy hits you and you have at least 1 ring, you won't die; though it will knock your rings out of you. Get hit without rings though, and you die.
See those monitor thingys? Try jumping on them to break them! They'll give you nice stuff like rings or powerups.
Pass a checkpoint (those pole things with stars on them) and if you die you'll start at the checkpoint. Pass it with 50 rings and sparkles will appear above it. Jump into them and you'll get into a special stage!
In special stages, Sonic can't spin attack and will always run, but you can move him left and right and make him jump.
Try collecting the needed rings in a special stage before time runs out; and don't hit the bombs! Do it right 3 times in a row, and you'll get a chaos emerald
And last, get all 7 emeralds, and you can become Super Sonic! It's not necessary thou, so it's fine if you don't beat all special stages.

Anyways, this is the very first version of the game (with dropdash added). If you want a more updated experience, you have a few options. You could get the mobile remake for iOS or Android for free, get the fan-made Sonic 2 Absolute for free on PC (you can find the APK you need on the internet), or you could buy Sonic Origins on PC or consoles at $40, which comes with remasters of this and 3 other 2D Sonic games.

Anyways, hope you enjoy this game and don't fall into the spike pit at Mystic Cave Zone Act 2.
