| 8/14/04 Hares: Just Karen and Mother Shucker Start: Route 149 in West Barnstable On In: Angelo's in West Baarnstable Distance: 3 miles Weather: Warm and partly cloudy Hash Scribe: (acting) Mother Shucker Beer Checks: One long one Start time: 2:45 Hashers present: Snatchsquatch,Paris Sucks, Idyl, Littleneck, Just Val, Just Ron, Just Ellen, Just Karen, Just Lee, Just Angela, Just Manny, Just Zach, Mother Shucker, and a dog. We are way overdue for some serious namings here. Start and run: We hung around for a while, waiting for the guest of honor who was of course fashionably late. Then proceeded towards the Shark City Fire Station and the start of the run. Just Karen's dog began scooting across the Fire Station lawn on its' butt, trying to dislodge a Clingon which Karen dispatched with a magic grape leaf. Grape leaves were to to prove a valuable asset, and predominant feature to this eventful day. We filed into the dark catacombs of the WB Jungle, to find some nasty CB's and a great YBF. There were small bridges over most of the shiggy, but some were just 2 by 6's on logs that went on forever. There were fire ant hills almost four feet high, snakes, lizards, frogs, and lions and tigers and bears. After seemingly endless wonderment, the frb's came upon the railroad tracks and since the train had passed and blown the flour away, were required to use "technology on trail" to cell phone the hare to find the beer check. The train came through again, and left them scrambling to get out of the way, we finally found the check and were able to revive ourselves on the lawn of the West Barnstable Post Office. A few beers later, we were ready to camp for the night, but forced on. The maze of trees and shiggy were confounding at best, with the undergrowth so thick that a hasher three feet away would disappear into the underbrush and grape vines. Eventually the trail opened up, and we were off on an open path back to the Fire Station. We told the kids to split and circled up. Snatchsquatch and Paris Sucks were our virgin RA's. Comments on the run were "amazing!" "It's so beautiful here!" "Shiggilicous!" The hares did- My girlfriend is a vegetable and a down-down. The visitors were given their honors, and Virgin Lee was baptized. He didn't seem to know a lot of the answers, but our standards are pretty low, so we let it slide. He is now known as Just Lee. A few more down-downs and a few more songs, and we finished with the Hash Hymn. Those without kids then went to Angelo's Bar, just down the road. We had no idea that Snatchsquatch's family owned that place, and it was full of her relatives. We were really taken care of, Free stuffed grape leaves (see, I told you it was recurring), and they were awesome. We loaded up on pizza and beer, told a lot of lies, had some more beer, told some more lies, etc. Most of us eventually left, but it was a great day, and we'll have more runs in that area to make use of our new "hash bar" Quotes on trail "In Boston, we all use cell phones and my friends help me shortcut" "That is the biggest dingleberry I have ever seen!" "Next hash, I'm gonna try running." Humbly submitted, your lowly, (acting) scribe, Mother Shucker C2H3 |
