Summary of the discussion with my partner, Eun-Ji,Cho
First, my partner and I looked at the two sites that we liked, One Good Site and Second Good Site[One Good Site:http://www.beadshop.com/shoponline/shoponline.aspx Second Good site: http://www.embitaly.org.uk/] In our comparison we noticed these features of good web design in both sites.
- Easy to navigate
- Doesn't take too much time for pictures to be upload
- Have clear purpose
Summary of 2 Good Web Sites
- Organization of both sites were clearly related to the purpose.
For the first good website, (beadshop) there were lots of pictures of what they were selling and also had information about the products as well.
So I think that this website does a good job when people are trying to get some beads through internet.
- And for the second good website, the purpose of the website is actually written on the corner of the website.
and therefore the purpose is well informed to the users.
Then we looked at the two sites that we did not like, One Bad Site and Second Bad Site[One Bad Site:http://www.ford.co.uk Second Bad Site:http://www.globalbeads.com/] In our comparison we noticed these problems.
- Both sites have unclear purpose, it takes a while in order to find out the purpose since they do not state the purpose clear enough
- Does not use color effectively
- Certainly not easy to navigate, takes too much time going back to the main page
Summary of 2 Bad Web Sites
- here were some difference between the two websites.
First,the first website(ford) was really colorful having too much flashes.
The purpose of the website is not to amaze people by flash.
- And for the second bad site used mainly black.
In contrast the selling products are colorful which disable the product to stand out.
- Even though Second bad site(bead)also have many pictures it didn't take much time to show up in screen but for the ford website(one bad site), it takes too much time
for the pictures or flahses to be shown which is quite stressfull for the users.
Conclusion
I found out that there are certain reason for becoming a bad web site. I realized that it isn't that hard to be a bad site. Before building up
a web site, there are so much to consider first. Most of all, it should be easy to navigate, should have clear purpose, use colors or pictures
appropriately and contents should be interesting enough so that users do not mind to scroll down and clicking for search.
