Use the following Web sites to enhance the information found in your textbooks. These Web sites will also assist you in responding to the questions listed below and the completion of your collage project. Each Web site provides colorful illustrations and valuable information on the structure and function of organelles found within cells. Some Web sites provide more detail than others do so you will find it useful to visit all of them.
·
Monday, June 28- Visit the following Web sites:
Answer the following questions:
1. What is the function of the
Golgi apparatus?
2. In most all cells, the
nucleus is positioned in the middle of the cell. Why do you think this is so?

Tuesday, June 29- Visit the following Web sites:
Structure and function of
organelles
Answer the following questions:
1. How are the cell membrane
and cell wall similar? How are they
different?
2. Describe the unique features
of the mitochondrion.
3. How does the mitochondrion
compare to chloroplasts?
4. Which organelle is responsible
for the production of ribosomes?
5. Explain the difference
between lysosomes and peroxisomes.
6. How do secretory vesicles
compare to peroxisomes and lysosomes?
7. Describe the role of the
vacuole in both plant and animal cells.
8. Compare and contrast the
smooth endoplasmic reticulum and the rough endoplasmic reticulum.
·
Wednesday, June 30- Turn in your completed
questions. Begin discussing within your appointed groups your ideas for the
collage project. You should decide on
the 10 organelles you would like to represent on the collage and to what real
world objects/processes the functions of your chosen organelles are
analogous. For example, you might think
of the mitochondria as being analogous to a power plant. You would then either draw a picture of a
power plant or try to find a picture of a power plant in the magazines and
newspapers provided. Continue collecting
your real world images. During this
process, one or two members of the group may choose to go ahead and draw the
cell containing the chosen organelles on a piece of poster board. The finished collage should contain a picture
of the cell containing organelles and the real world analogy images connected
to the appropriate organelle.
·
Thursday, July 1- Today, you should continue
to assemble the collage in your groups for approximately the first 30 minutes
of class. During the last 20 minutes of class, each group will present their
collage. Your group may choose a spokes
person or each member can choose to present a portion of the collage.
Lesson Assessment- Your questions are worth 2 points each for a total of 20 points. Your collages will be assessed according to
the scoring rubric on the assesement page.
