Sergeant Arnold served with the 83rd Infantry Division, 329th Regiment during World War II. The 329th landed on Omaha Beach D+17, June 23, 1944. They fought their way through France, Luxembourg, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany, to within 35 miles of Berlin, the closest American unit to Hitler's capital.

Sergeant Arnold was with the division from its training in Camp Atterbury (Indiana), Camp Breckinridge (Kentucky), and Wales, England. He commanded a ten-man squad as part of the 329th's Anti-Tank Company.
