To Be Desired
                                                            Chapter 7

We touched down at about six p.m. in San Francisco. We walked out of the plane to enormously high-pitched screams. I had to stay in the back with the luggage. You know,  publicity. We all got into a limo waiting on the runway and got driven to our very nice hotel. We went up many floors and finally the elevator dinged open and we walked into our suite. Snazzy I said as soon as we walked in. OK guys Brian started. Pick your rooms.  They all wandered about. I took my suitcase from Paul. Thanks I said. Anytime he replied. I laughed. Is that like your favorite word? I asked. He looked at me. No he said. I laughed. Jus checkin I said walking towards a door. I put one suitcase down opened it and walked inside. It was a nice room, Dresser, TV, queen bed, two nightstands, bathroom, small table. Haha I like it! I put my cases on the floor by the closet. I left the room and walked into the common area, which might I add is very nice.

Everyone was lounging around. I dropped to the floor between the two couches facing each other. I laid down and stretched my arms and legs. Whats for dinner? John asked to no one in particular. Im starving He added. Whatever you want Brian replied. Can we go out for dinner, Eppy? John asked pleading. Brian looked around the room to the begging faces. OK He sighed. Everyone cheered. Ill check the phone book Brian said walking towards his room. The whole mood seemed to be a happier one all of a sudden. Brian walked out with a phone book. What kind of food? He asked sitting down on the couch next to the phone. Italian John said. OK Brian said flipping through the book. He put his finger on a number and dialed the phone. Yes, This is Brian Epstein, Could I have a table for tonight for 8 please? He asked politely. Yes He said smiling. Thank you its much appreciated. He said hanging the phone up. OK he said to our awaiting expressions. They are giving us a semi-secluded table, Plus its a pretty posh place I dont think well have any problems. He said. Great We all got up and went into our rooms.

OK what shall I wear... I picked out my Peasant skirtish thing it was about down to my knees but not the ugly kind of knee length skirts like...pretty yeah it had little pink flower print. I wore my pink V-neck shirt with tight sleeves down to my elbows. I put on my strappy black high-heels and my pink bracelet. I put on Black eyeliner that made my eyes really stand out. I wore Pink eye shadow and dark pink lip-gloss. OK I took one last check in the mirror before I grabbed my purse and walked out of the room. Everyone was waiting when I walked out. They all looked me over. A room full of men starring at you, talk about self-consciousness. You look smashing ,Luv Paul said. I started laughing a bit (of course). Thanks I said. Where did that word come from anyway...smashing I said. He smiled. You dont like it? He asked. Oh, no I love it, Its just a strange word...yeah I said laughing again. OK lets go I added. Everyone stood up. I fell to the back as everyone broke into conversation as we made our way down to the elevator. Hey Paul said. I looked up. Hi I replied smiling. Whats up? He asked. Its a direction I said. He smiled. Really now? He asked. I nodded. How are you? I asked smiling. Fine He said. Thats good I said laughing. This was pretty awkward conversation. Anyroad... I said. Whats the last album you put out? I asked. Rubber Soul He replied. We stepped into the elevator. So youre working on Revolver? I asked. He looked at me. We, are done with it but, It hasnt been put out yet He said. I nodded. John, who was obviously listening to our conversation, spoke from behind us. Whats your favorite song from Revolver? he asked, I turned around. Um... I was trying to think of all the songs. Here, There, and Everywhere I said. He nodded Yeah thats a good song John replied. Oh, Stop it Paul said joking coy. We laughed. and Yellow submarine I said jumping up and down. They both looked at me like I was crazy. I am I said. What? John asked. crazy They gave me the same look, I laughed. The elevator dinged open and we walked towards the back entrance of the hotel. We got into our limoish car and drove off.

Is the cover design done yet? Paul smiled and nodded. Its really awesome He said. I nodded. The others all started a discussion about the album and I listened to it all as We drove through town. We stopped in front of a nice restaurant and I opened the door. I followed Brian inside as we got seated. I sat down, Paul sat on my right, and John sat on my left. I picked up the menu and looked at the options. The waiter came for drink orders. Dr. Pepper I requested. He nodded. I giggled. Paul looked at me. Im a Dr.Pepper-a-holic I explained. He nodded. I set down my menu already knowing what I wanted. Manicotti Formagio. Haha I love it! I stared at the table while the others broke into another conversation. Im sure I looked like a dork. Oh well, I was thinking, This was so un real...nothing is real, Reality is a nice place but I wouldnt want to live there...no never. I looked up to see my Dr. Pepper sitting in front of me. I took a sip and did my fiendish giggle. Paul laughed. I added about nothing to the conversation the whole night as I proceeded to eat a little over half of my meal. When nearly everyone was done with theyre food Paul nudged me a bit. Whats wrong? He asked. I smiled smally Nothing. for some reason that made me feel bad when people asked that. He nodded. As we left the restaurant I saw Paul kept a concerned eye on me while he talked to John. I turned and walked to the car. I stared out the window the whole drive back.

As soon as we got back I went into my room and quickly changed into pajamas and went back to the common room. I sat down next to Paul on the couch. He looked at me. I looked back at him, then turned to the TV every ones eyes were glued to. It was some strange sixties family sitcom. One of the characters reminded me of my brother. The best brother, the brother I might never see again. The family I might never see again. My city, My house, My friends, My dogs. I might never ever see anything of them ever again. I blinked. The tears spilled over my eyes and slid down my cheeks. Whats wrong, Luv? Paul asked in that gaspish oh-my-god-whats-wrong voice. I covered my face with my hand. Whats wrong? He asked softer. I started sobbing. He put his arm around my shoulders. I started crying uncontrollably. He pulled my front to his chest. Its alright, Luv He said rubbing my back. I buried my head in his shoulder and cried as he rubbed my back. I cried until I was reduced to dry sobs.  I just stayed there clinging to his shirt and breathing softly. He smelled so good! so comforting. After a bit I guess Paul thought I was asleep because he got up and picked me up with him. He walked to my room slowly and then set me on the bed. I looked up at him. Did I wake you up? He asked softly. I smiled. No I said. I was never asleep I said. He smiled. Sneaky He said. Yeah, you know I was too lazy to walk in here so I thought why not? I said. I looked at him. I noticed the black smudges on his shoulder. I gasped a little bit. Im sorry! I said. He looked down at his shirt. Oh. Thats alright He smiled. So, whats wrong? He asked sitting down next to me. I looked down. Nothing really I said. Come on He said softly. I looked up at him I guess I just missed my family I said. What if I never see them again? I asked. And My friends and my city, My house, My everything, everything Ive ever known may be gone forever. I said. He shook his head. Yeah, you may never see them but you cant think like that, You hafto remember how good it was when you had it. And I know its not such a good consolation but you have us. He said. I smiled and nodded. I hugged him. Thanks I said softly. Anytime He said. I laughed. He winked. I turned my head towards the mirror and saw my black eyes. I got up. Ill be right back I said. He nodded. I looked for my shower stuff and walked into the bathroom. I Applied makeup remover with a cotton ball until it was all gone. Then I washed my face and put moisturizer on. I walked out to find Paul sitting on the bed. I realized he only had his undershirt on and his button down was in the trash can. I'm really sorry bout the shirt I said. He smiled. thats OK Ive got more. He said. I sat down on the bed. He got up come on He said. What? I asked. Lets go back out there He said. I shook my head. Naw, Id rather not I said. He nodded. OK Ill keep you company then he said. No, Its all right, You go out with them I said. I didnt want him to be bored to death. I might actually go to bed early I said. He nodded OK. He took my hand and kissed it. Goodnight He said. I smiled. Goodnight I said. He walked out of the room and closed the door behind him. I looked at my hand Paul McCartneys lips touched this hand. I put it up to my cheek and laughed.
