The authentic version has lighter blue Skin & a wider Face. The Text Role he is holding curves in more at the centre & the Hands, Ears & Tassel are smaller.
DESCRIPTION: FAKE VARIATION
The fake version has darker blue Skin & a narrower Face. The Text Role he is holding is straighter (across) & the Hands, Ears & Tassel are larger. The height of the Text Role is about the same as the authentic one.
Viewing the smurfs from this angle can give away whether a smurf is fake or not. The authentic smurf on the left has a thinner Text Role (2mm) while the fake version has a thicker Text Role (3mm).
However it is possible (although unlikely) that someone could use a loose authentic Text Scroll and attach it to a fake Figure so make sure you look at as many clues as you can to determine if the smurf as a whole is authentic.
From the side view you will notice that the authentic version has thinner features like Hands, Tassel on Hat & Ears. The Seams on the fake going down the sides of the Figure are also more prominant and rougher whereaas the authentic has smaller and less noticeable Seams.
DESCRIPTION: VIEW FROM UNDERNEATH LEFT - AUTHENTIC (LEFT) / FAKE (RIGHT)
The authentic smurf on the left has more defined markings compared to the more blurry markings of the fake on the right. The fake has longer Feet and an awful Seam Line that dissects the markings. The little dent in the sole of the Feet on the authentic smurf is the Injection Hole which just about all authentic smurfs have. This is where they inject the PVC during production and can be a good way of identifying an authentic as the fake smurfs do not have these little hole scars.
