This mod package comes with a dual purpose mod! The first one is RA2MME (RA2 Master�s Mission Edition) and the second is Red Alert 2: The Aftermath both of which will be described below. Take note that neither mods were created with the help of third party editors, all were made from scratch. These mods DO NOT make any permanent changes to your computer (registry settings, etc.) or RA2. Red Alert 2 Master�s Mission Edition Since you�ve probably gone through the original Allied and Soviet campaigns, you probably do not want to play them again. Well, have no complaints anymore! RA2MME�s purpose is to liven up the campaign, giving new feeling to it! The changes it makes to the game doesn�t disrupt the mission balance, ensuring you can get through the campaign without any problems. I personally recommend it! For features and how to install, please read on (RA2MME and RA2: the Aftermath currently contain the same features) ... CnCBlend: RA2: The Aftermath First of all, I�d like to thank you for choosing RA2: The Aftermath. This readme will give you a basic idea of the features and changes this mod makes, along with a detailed description of the units and structures added. One of the great things about this mod package is convenience and that it makes NO permanent changes to your computer! It includes a startup program that initializes the proper files needed to modify RA2 and gets it back to normal once you exit. This means no moving, deleting, or renaming files! Even if you have another mod installed in your RA2 directory (rules.ini, art.ini, etc.) you don�t have to remove those files! The startup program will automatically null those files ensuring that they do not interfere with RA2: The Aftermath or RA2MME! If you want to play RA2 normally just startup RA2 normally! Hopefully, if you�ve played the original Red Alert along with the Aftermath expansion pack, RA2: The Aftermath will bring some of the nostalgic feelings you had with the original (but with all the same units!) Includes 150+ little changes and tweaks! How to Install & Run In this ZIP package (AftermathV1 OR Aftermath V2), you should find the following files: Aftermath.dat CnCblend.bat Quick start Guide.txt Startup.dat Failsafe.dat RA2AMVersion.txt Aftermath Readme (Sorry this wasn�t here before!) In the German version, (RA2AftermathGerman), you should find these files: Aftermath.dat Failsafe.dat* CnCBlendGerman.bat* Aftermath readme.doc (This file :) Startup.dat In the future, if you have any older version of RA2: The Aftermath, just replace all files above with the newer version (the RA2AMversion.txt will tell you the current version in the package ZIP). *IMPORTANT* If you have CNCBlend: RA2 The Aftermath remove the older version before copying files to your RA2 directory. Just move all the files above into your Red Alert 2 directory, which is usually C:\westwood\ra2. Just double-click on CnCBlend.bat and follow the directions on screen. See! What convenience! Don�t pay attention the �File not found� errors, the program is just trying to rename any files that may interfere with RA2: The Aftermath and they aren�t there (no problem!) However, if you do have any .mix files in your RA2 directory (ecache.mix or expand.mix, where is 01 to 99) it is STRONGLY recommended that you remove or RA2: The Aftermath may not work properly. If something goes wrong, i.e., a power outage occurs, before you exit RA2 with this mod in progress, just startup CnCblend.bat again. You will see the message "Broken chain detected..." The �broken chain� is when it has renamed certain files and has initialized RA2: The Aftermath and that it has not returned RA2 to normal. The startup program will automatically restore the chain and viola! RA2 is back to normal! You should have the latest version of RA2. The latest version as of August 28, 2001 is 1.006. The Optimization Patch If you have a slower computer and the new visual effects (intense flying debris, etc.) seem to be too much, try downloading the Optimize.zip from RADEN - it should greatly help your computer's performance! To install it - please refer to the Optimize Patch Instructions.txt that comes with the Optimize.zip Special Ex-Pack #1: Tiberian Sun Mode You read right! There is a special expansion pack FOR RA2: AFTERMATH available. It is available from the same place where you downloaded RA2: Aftermath, at RADEN. The file is called AMTSPack.zip, and installing it adds a brand new multiplayer game mode to Aftermath that converts your RA2 into TS, a great opportunity for those who have never played TS to try out this great game. Note that it is NOT a TRUE conversion, it just gives you access to TS structures and units. Note that there are two versions of Aftermath currently available, and THE ONLY difference between the two versions are their size and the amount of sounds that are available while playing the TS Mode. The lite version (AftermathV1.zip) is only about 2.8 MB, but it only contains WHAT YOU NEED to play, nothing more. The enhanced version, (AftermathV2.zip), contains everything in the lite version as well as some bonus features - the EVA from Tiberian Sun, fixes to the single player campaign, and additional sounds for the TS mode. But on the downside it is 5.5 MB. The lite version may not be as enjoyable as the enhanced version, but the lite version is recommended for those who cannot handle downloading large files or for those who can live without the features above. The enhanced version is recommended for those who want to experience RA2: Aftermath to its fullest or with those with high speed connections (don't get me wrong, a 56k user can download anything, it just takes longer!). In regards to the TS mode, if you have the lite version of Aftermath, you will find that there is a lacking of sounds in the TS mode. If you have the enhanced version of Aftermath, there are additional sounds in the TS mode, such as gun fire, etc. The TS mode is still in its beta stages...I will continue to work to improve the AI and add Tiberium to the mode, if it proves possible. Special note from me I want to especially thank you again for choosing RA2: The Aftermath and RA2MME. I�ve put a lot of hard work any many hours into these mods and hope you really enjoy it. I�ve worked especially hard to keep RA2�s �balance high� theme, making sure everything�s balanced. Skirmish Game Modes of Play RA2: The Aftermath contain new modes of play for Skirmish against the AI! They are: Meat Grinder - no high tech units allowed! Defeat your enemy with tanks and infantry! Naval war - its all naval, all the time! Crate For All - with 250 crates on the map at all times, pick up goodies everywhere! Tech Revolution - all Allied and Soviet factions can build all special units! Unholy Alliance - be Allied and Soviet at the same time! Death Match - you must rely on crates to build your army, no bases! Tiberian Sun - experience another great game from Westwood! (Ex-pack required, see above) If you and a friend contain the EXACT same versions of RA2: The Aftermath you can play these game modes online! Great for playing Death Match against another person! Special Instructions In Death Match, make sure that SHORT GAME is OFF. Or else the game mode will not work. In Crates For All, be sure that CRATES are ON, or else you would have defeated the purpose of the game mode. Tiberian Sun notes: Of course, as Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 2 are different games, it is not possible to make the TS mode EXACTLY like the real game, but I worked my best to get it that way! Below is a list of changes in the RA2: Aftermath TS Mode that you will not find in the real game, C&C Tiberian Sun. - There is no Firestorm Defense, as it did not prove possible because of changes in code. - There are no Service Depots, instead each side gets its unique Repair Vehicle. - You do not need to harvest Weeds in order to create the Chemical Missile, as there are no weeds! - There is no Tiberium (this may change in future versions) - The Hover MLRS does not hover, but it is amphibious. - Disruptors act slightly differently from Tiberian Sun - The Juggernaut does not need to deploy in order to fire - The EMP Cannon, instead of disabling vehicles, it destroys all vehicles in the blast radius instead. - Instead of a Mobile EMP for GDI, there is an EMP Deviator, which uses an EMP blast to "mind control" other vehicles and cyborgs. - The Ion Cannon Uplink Center also gives access to Drop Pods - The Cyborg Reaper fires a mini Chemical Missile instead of a web to kill infantry in a wide radius. - For each aircraft you have, you must have one Helipad. In order to build Carryalls, you must have one Helipad empty. - Light Infantry can garrison buildings - The Obelisk's laser 'shrapnel' like a Prism Tank. - Pavement is not available, is it did not work like it did in TS. - To use the EMP Cannon and Nod Missile Silos, SELECT the structure and CLICK on a target, just how you would tell a regular unit to attack something. Individual Faction Assessment Commander, good evening. I am Lt. Eva. Below is the information on Allied factions and information I�ve been able to gather on Soviet factions. Allied Factions Great Britain Special Units: Sniper, Chrono Tank. Units created at Veteran Level: Sniper British infantry gain a 29% to 40% increase in armor. Chrono Tank Cost: $2400 Armor: light Prerequisite: Allied Tech Center Weapon: Heat-seeking missiles Range: medium Tech Level: 9 The British Chrono Tanks prove a great threat. Able to chronoshift anywhere on their own, they are extremely useful in hit-and-run tactics. Its advanced heat-seeking missiles are useful against enemy vehicles and structures. France Special Unit/Structure: Grand Artillery, Grand Cannon French units get a 55% to 60% bonus in ROF (they fire faster). Grand Artillery Cost: $1360 Armor: light Prerequisite: Allied Tech Center Weapon: 155mm Cannon Range: long Tech Level: 8 Specializing in long range weaponry, the French have developed a new weapon to counter the Soviet�s V3 Launcher. The Grand Artillery is like the Grand Cannon on wheels, although slightly more inaccurate. Useful for softening up a base before an overrun, be sure enemy units do not get close to it - it has an effective minimum range and is lightly armored, leaving it vulnerable to heavy combat. Germany Special Unit: Tank Destroyer German factions gain a 35% increase in firepower. United States of America Special unit/ability: Paratrooper Drop of 7 Veteran GI�s/Aircraft Carrier Nimitz American infantry gain a 25% increase in armor. Aircraft Carrier Nimitz Cost: $2500 Armor: heavy Prerequisite: Allied Tech Center Tech Level: 7 Weapon: 5 ORCAs Range: extreme America has an upgraded version of normal Aircraft Carriers. Instead of 4 Hornets the Nimitz carries 4 ORCA Attack Aircrafts, much more durable and slightly more powerful than Hornets. ORCAs are extremely fast. They are our latest design, a mix of our Harriers and Longbows. Korea Special unit: Black Eagle Korean aircraft gain a 20% increase in armor. Units created at Veteran Level: Black Eagle Soviet Factions Russia Special unit: Tesla Tank Russian factions get a 10% decrease in production price. Cuba Special units/abilities: Terrorist/Terrorist Attack Cuban factions get a 48% to 35% decrease in production times. Terroist Attack Paradrop Special Prerequisite: Soviet Radar A Paradrop of 12 Terroists and 6 Crazy Ivans makes a deadly team. The Terrorists can devastate a large area within a poorly defended base and the Crazy Ivans can plant bombs after the initial attack. Libya Special unit: Demolition Truck Libyan factions gain 20% more income from ore. Iraq Special units: Desolator, Cobra Units created at Veteran Level: Desolator Iraqi factions� units gain a 27% to 31% increase in groundspeed. Cobra Cost: $700 Armor: light Prerequisite: Soviet Radar Tower Tech Level: 6 Weapon: Dual Rad Beams Range: long Seeing how useful Desolators are on land, the Iraqis have decided to extend this technology to the seas as well. Equipped with dual Rad-Cannons and a deadly radiation cargo, it can do light damage to ships and eliminate infantry - or detonate its cargo, destroying itself and releasing toxic radiation into the water. Iraqi scientists have designed this unit to be a suicide unit, but it can be used for other things as well. Although it can hover, it can only self-destruct on the water. Also, since its radiation cargo is safe from detonation on its own, no radiation is released if destroyed by the enemy, which gives us a limited time to destroy it before it self-destructs. Detailed Unit/Structure Assessment - Allied Greetings, commander, I�m Lt. Connors. Below is the information is on our latest innovations and what we could gather on Soviet innovations. We can�t guarantee and the information on the Soviet innovations is up-to-date or accurate. Allied units are generally fast and have a fast ROF, inflicting damage in multiple shots. We generally develop our units to be extremely effective against armor. Gun Turret Cost: $800 Armor: light Prerequisite: Allied Barracks Purpose: Defense Tech Level: 4 Weapon: 120mm SABOT Cannon Stationary Tank Destroyers, Turrets provide extremely effective defense against enemy vehicles. The advanced armor piercing shells, like the German Tank Destroyers, are weak against infantry. They require sufficient power to operate. Hydroelectric Power Plant Cost: $1000 Armor: light Prerequisite: Allied Tech Center Purpose: Power output Tech Level: 9 A safer alternative power source, the Hydroelectric Power Plant uses water to generate electricity. Much safer than Nuclear Reactors, however, they must be placed on water and guarded well. Patriot Missile Site Cost: $800 Armor: light Prerequisite: Allied Barracks, Airforce Command Center Purpose: Anti-aircraft defense Tech Level: 3 The Patriot Missile Site fires long-ranged Patriot Missiles at enemy aircraft. What gives them an advantage over Soviet Flak Cannons is that Patriot Missile Sites automatically target and fire at multiple enemies, meaning that they will automatically attempt to kill multiple enemies at one time. Although not all of the incoming aircraft will be destroyed, the Patriot Missile Site will make sure that multiple aircraft are heavily damaged. Field Medic Cost: $150 Armor: none Prerequisite: Allied Barracks Tech Level: 2 Range: short Weapon: First-aid Kit The Medic, if left on his own, will heal all friendly infantry within the vicinity. His has no weapon, and must be protected on the battlefield. Medics working in groups make excellent additions to any infantry battalion. Rocketeer Cost: $300 Armor: none Prerequisite: Airforce Command Center Tech Level: 3 Weapon: HE Missiles Range: short These brave soldiers strap jet-packs to their backs and hover over the battlefield, attacking anything that comes within their range. Although extremely vulnerable to anything that can attack them, their missile packs are effective to just about everything, and they can provide effective attacks against poorly defended targets and even attack aircraft. Longbow Helicopter Cost: $1200 Armor: light Prerequisite: Airforce Command Center Tech Level: 8 Weapon: Hellfire Missiles Range: medium Upon noticing that the Allies have no effective close-air support unit, American scientists have developed the Longbow attack helicopter. The Longbow is extremely effective against enemy vehicles and aircraft, destroying them quickly and efficiently. It has no need to return to the base as it generates its own ammunition once it runs out. Treat this aircraft as a support unit. It is too vulnerable to lead an assault, because if it comes under attack, its valuable ammunition is destroyed as it is damaged. And if Longbows are supporting your attack team, be sure to knock out all antiaircraft defenses before calling them in. Amphibious APC Cost: $600 Armor: light Prerequisite: Allied Barracks Tech Level: 2 Weapon: M60 Machine Gun Range: medium Another older version of the IFV, the APC can carry 5 troopers at a time. Fast, with good armor, it is the lightest vehicle that can crush infantry and its M60 machine gun helps keep infantry at bay while it goes about its mission. Wolverine Battle Tank Cost: $600 Armor: light Prerequisite: Allied War Factory Tech Level: 2 Weapon: 90mm TOW Missile Range: medium Fully restored from the Great War with some changes, the Wolverine Battle Tank, although small and not as powerful as the Grizzly, should not be underestimated. Fast with decent armor and equipped with antiaircraft capability, Wolverines and draw fire while Grizzlies destroy the threat. Prism Destroyer Cost: $1500 Armor: light Prerequisite: Allied Shipyard, Allied Tech Center Tech Level: 8 Range: long A powerful, yet lightly armored ship, it is a counter for the Soviet's Lightning Boat. A much more powerful version than our Prism Tank, one shot from it can destroy entire groups of units or devastate a large portion of a base. Lightly armored, it must be protected. Eagle's Claw Cost: $1400 Armor: heavy Prerequisite: Allied War Factory, Allied Tech Center Tech Level: 6 A powerful and useful addition to our forces, the Allied Eagle's Claw can allow us to extend our forces to where we need it most. Able to produce vehicles anywhere, the Eagle's Claw can help us extend our forces across land in the ever dominating Soviet land battles. Gunboat Cost: $500 Armor: light Prerequisite: Allied Shipyard Tech Level: 4 Weapon: 2-inch Cannon Range: short Also restored from the Great War, they provide great support for the higher-class Destroyers. Basically Grizzly Battle Tanks on water, they are also equipped with advance sonar that can not only detect submarines, but destroy them as well. It should not be underestimated. Detailed Unit/Structure Assessment - Soviet Soviet units are generally larger, slower, and more powerful than our own units, inflicting large amounts of damage in a few shots. Grenadier Cost: $90 Armor: none Prerequisite: Soviet Barracks Weapon: Grenade Launcher/Flak Cannon Range: short/long Tech Level: 2 Formerly known as Flak Troopers, they are now armed with dual purpose cannons that can serve as a Grenade Launcher or a Flak Cannon. The effective dual purpose infantry, it can destroy almost anything in large groups. Hells Commando Cost: $600 Armor: plate Prerequisite: Soviet Radar Tower Tech Level: 8 Weapon: Flame-thrower Range: medium The Hell�s Commando is armed with a modified Flame-thrower that makes it much more effective against infantry and structures. They are equipped with a special suit them protects them from fire and radiation, which makes them a useful in protecting Desolators. Like the Desolator, he can heal himself. War Refinery Cost: $1400 Armor: heavy Prerequisite: Soviet Service Depot, Soviet War Factory Tech Level: 6 Weapon: Missile Packs Range: Medium It appears the Soviets are trying to match our Chrono Miners. The War Refinery can deploy into a fully functional Ore Refinery, minus the free War Miner. It also appears to be armed, both in its mobile and deployed states, so it can defend itself from air and light attacks. And to top things off, it is amphibious, like the War Miner. Hind Transport Helicopter Cost: $1500 Armor: heavy Prerequisite: Soviet Radar Tower Tech Level: 8 Weapon: Gattling Cannon Range: medium Another unit from the Great War with considerable upgrades. Like the Kirov, it is considerably well-armored, although much less durable. It can carry five infantry units or one tank and is equipped with unlimited ammo. Although faster than the Kirov, it is much more vulnerable to antiaircraft fire. They can gun through infantry and structures with ease. Stealth Tank Cost: $1200 Armor: light Prerequisite: Soviet Battle Lab Tech Level: 9 Weapon: Dragon Missiles Range: medium The Soviets have stolen Einstein�s Mirage technology and have upgraded it considerably. The Stealth Tank remains cloaked completely, even while moving. Only our infantry can detect Stealth Tanks if they are nearby, and can appear out of nowhere. It missiles are effective against armor and infantry. When at Elite status, they can remain cloaked while firing. Lighting Boat Cost: $1500 Armor: light Prerequisite: Soviet Battle Lab Tech Level: 8 Weapon: Tesla Bolt Range: long The Soviets have finally done it - the Soviets have taken their deadly Tesla tech to the seas. The Lightning Boat directs powerful bolts of electricity through the water - and when a ship is hit the water around it is electrocuted - allowing the Lightning boat sink many ships within a small radius. Beware of this unit, commander. They can also force underwater units to surface. Missile Sub Cost: $2000 Armor: light Prerequisite: Soviet Battle Lab Tech Level: 9 Weapon: Cluster Missiles Range: long The Missile Sub fires dual cluster missiles that can destroy anything within a short radius. They can submerge and surface before the enemy knows what hit them, and when elite they no longer surface to fire. With an added advantage, the missiles it fires cannot be shot down by Patriot Missiles. Because of the nature of the missiles, they cannot fire at aircraft. They also feature a reloading system like our Longbow, so damage to it prevents it from firing. Other features and enhancements The major features and enhancements include: Grizzly Battle Tanks can repair themselves over time Improved veterency and elite stats - veteran and elite units are much more noticeable Crazy Ivan bombs are considerably more powerful You can now build the Chrono Sphere and Iron Curtain with Superweapons OFF Improved V3 Launcher - missiles are more durable Soviet Amphibious Transports can carry 18 passengers The Weather Control Device how emits a �Weather Beam� when creating a lightning storm (try it and see!) Lighting Storm and Nuclear Missile slightly more powerful Intense flying debris effects added Many weapons now rock any nearby units it hits Improved Prism Tower - light now reflects off of units Improved Tesla Coil - when powered up by a Tesla Trooper the ROF and power is increased War Miners and Soviet MCVs are amphibious Miscellaneous AI tweaks make the AI tougher, stronger, and more brutal - the AI also uses the new units Warp-in times have been decreased - Chrono Units warp in faster Powerful weapons (like the Nuclear Missile) shake the screen on impact Apocalypse Tanks now attack infantry with their missile packs Most of the powerful units make a sound when created Telling Ore Miners to 'Guard' will automatically tell them go harvest at the nearest ore patch Rhino Heavy Tank now equipped with dual barrels Prism Tanks can now destroy bridges and walls Kirov Airships are slightly faster New hidden Super Units! Psychic Sensors will automatically alert you with an audio warning whenever an enemy unit is approaching Destruction from a nuclear blast will spread outward instead of instantly killing everything Tanya says "Shake it baby!" when idle (like in RA1) Walls build three times faster than normal and can be placed more quickly War Factories and Refineries have more hit points You can now use up to 30 Waypoints Forest Fires is back! Well, sort of. Many HE (high-explosive) weapons spark a fire when they hit - the fire can be deadly against infantry. Some infantry have special armor that helps them against fire - but infantry will always be vulnerable against fire. I can�t think of anymore, there are many, many more tweaks, trust me! Try to spot as many as you can! Frequently Asked Questions By popular demand I've included a list of FAQ about RA2: The Aftermath: Fan: What are the hidden super units? How do I get them? Answer: You'll have to find out for yourself, :) but I'll give you a hint, their names are Aegis Destroyer and the infamous Cruiser. Fan: What units now say something when created? Answer: You can really find out for yourself, but here is an important list of sayings you should be listening for: Aircraft Carrier/Nimitz: "Navigation systems ready!" Prism Destroyer: "Allied ship reporting!" Aegis Destroyer: "Battlestations!" Dreadnought: "Ship reporting." Missile Sub: "Vessel ready." Cruiser: "Close, and fire!" Lightning Boat: "Engines engaged!" Super Allied Tank: �I smell fear!� Super Soviet Tank: �Armed and dangerous!� Fan: Why do War Miners sink when they are chrono'ed onto the water? Answer: Hehe, War Miners need to engage this special mechanism before they enter the water. If they land on the water before the mechanism is engaged, the War Miner will sink. Problem: I get an error message or "FATAL ERROR" or "WARNING" in CNCBlend. Solution: You will see the most likely cause and the best thing you can do to fix it. Try to do what the program tells you. If that fails yet again e-mail me with the error message you get. Problem: I get an Internal Error. Solution: Honestly, I believe you shouldn't get any internal errors with my mod, because I haven't gotten any. If you do, press ok and then try pressing CTRL + ALT + DEL one time and close all programs EXCEPT Explorer and systray (you'll have to do this more than once) Then try playing RA2: The Aftermath again. If you were doing something right before the internal error you are able to reproduce this error, please e-mail me only if this problem only happens with my mod in effect. If you get internal errors with RA2 running normally e-mail Westwood. Problem: RA2 keeps quitting unexpectedly without and error message! Solution: Unfortunately, I have this problem too. This problem mainly affects users with AMD processors and was imposed by the 1.004 patch. Don't worry, Westwood is working hard to fix it, but until they do here are some things you should do to avoid these closes: - Close ALL programs EXCEPT Explorer and Systray, see above - Uninstall RA2, completely delete the directory, then reinstall RA2 - If your graphics display driver has a special program that runs in the background, make sure it is running Update With the latest patch, 1.006, from WW, this problem had been fixed for many. If you still get this problem, follow the instructions above or visit the official RA2 Forums at www.westwood.com Problem: In XCC Mod Launcher, when ever I click on the "Aftermath" or "Aftermath Manual" button I get an error message. Solution: You best bet is to try downloading the Aftermath from RADEN again. If that still fails and you get an error message like "Error activation Mod" when you click on the "Aftermath" button, if you got a "WARNING" message in CNCBlend before, you should try doing what the Warning Message said. If that fails, e-mail me. Problem: (from a fan) I get a "A required .dll file, ******.DLL, was not found" error message when trying to run Aftermath. Solution: The .DLL file in the error message varies, but the overall error should match the above. Before you e-mail me, please try searching for this file on your system (using the Start > File > Files and Folders command), and then move the file (if you found it) to your C:\windows\system directory. Most likely that .dll file is located in some hidden folder on your hard drive. If that fails, visit http://xcc.tiberian.com and download the XCC DLL Pack, and put the contents of that zip folder to your RA2 directory. If that continues to fail, e-mail me. If you have any other problems or have anything to add, e-mail me. Bugs Or course, every mod is bound to have its bugs. As of March 7, 2001, I know of 3 bugs Chrono Tanks will not teleport across islands on their own. You must hold down Ctrl + Alt and click on the place you would like the Chrono Tank to teleport to. The Allied Destroyer may have trouble attacking Naval Yards (i.e., they just point at it and never fire). I'm working to fix this problem but what you can do now is try moving the Destroyer manually and then tell it to attack the Naval Yard.
