Message From Our Past Incoming Commanding Officer, LTA(NCC) Desmond Kao
The purpose of Co-Curricular Activities is to give student an opportunity to learn something new out of the classroom. It also provides the chance for social interaction between students from different background and race, which is important to character building . On a larger scale, the awareness of the needs and practices of different races breeds understanding and tolerance, which is vital to the preservation of racial harmony in Singapore. This is especially so now, given the world situation.



The NCC does just that and more. The elements of drills, ranks and structure build discipline and character. The camps and outdoor activities provide students the chance to work in groups and pick up inter and intra personal skills. The ties ups with the Singapore Armed Forces provides the student with a view of how the Armed Forces work and hence better preparing our cadets for National Service in tears to come.



The new St.Gabriels  NCC(AIR) Unit is a relatively young unit. But under thr leadership of its current Commanding Officer, LTA (NCC)Tuang Fook Yong , being young is just about is being young. It has stood against stronger and bigger units. It had came out top in the best unit competition , clinching the Chief of Air Force Challenge Trophy twice in its three years of existence. A well deserved achievement for a remarkably well unit.



I am  proud to be here, serving the unit as a Training Officer, working side by side with LTA (NCC) Tuang, a good colleague and friend who is often seen working along side the cadets. I am also very happy to note and acknowledge the presence of old boys, who is willingly volunteer their services each year to help mentor their junior,  and prepare for major events like CCA Open House and annuals camps. Of  course we cannot forget the CLTs, specialists and cadets for their dedication to the Corps and School. Every Saturday, they turn up without fail to train and be train. The Unit would not have come thus far if not for all our steady and faithful commitment.



As I take over the reins from LTA (NCC) Tuang, it is my duty to uphold what he has laid down over the 4 years.It may not be easy to fill the void left by him but wit such dedicated boys, seniors and cadets, I feel empowered to do better. Let us work together to an even stronger and more vibrant St.Gabriels NCC (AIR) Unit.
