About Me -
Scott Gordon McAdam

I was born in Oakland, CA on September 12, 1962. I am the last of five children with two older sisters and two older brothers, between 15-18 years older than myself.
I attended school from K-12th grade in the San Leandro/San Lorenzo area, suburbs across the bay from San Francisco. In the sixth grade I became a tutor in the special class at my school. This was my first experience with teaching others.
I collect vintage, mostly pre-1970 comic books, a hobby that I began in 1975. Very soon after beginning to collect them I started to sell comics for a profit and a budding business began for me.
I attended college in 1980-81, 81-82, but unfortunately I did not take it seriously and therefore did not graduate or even come close to finishing.
From age 18 until I was 26 I  worked at two different comic book stores and also held a second job at a comic book distributor that overlapped the time of both of these jobs. Unfortunately, I left the comic book industry in 1989 and went on to become a landscaper, moving my way up from a laborer to an estimator and customer service specialist, but I did love this work and learned many new things and formed a love for plants and the outdoors..
In late 1993 I decided to begin the workings of fulfilling a dream to open my own comic book and toy store, which I then opened on March 12, 1994. On that day Treasures of Youth by Scott was born and it occupied my life for the next 6 1/2 years. Most of that time was extremely fun, but some of it was very stressful with paperwork and taxes that I never enjoyed. On August 4, 2000 I put that portion of my life to rest and moved on to being self-employed without an actual place of business. I had a great situation where I lived in an apartment above the store, so I did not need to move away, but just closed the doors to the public and continued to use that location as a base of operations.
During that Fall I had a lot of time to think over my life and I realized that the one thing that was missing was helping others and making a difference in the world. At that moment, with the influence of two men in an organization of which I was a part, I decided that my calling was to become a school teacher.
I went to Chabot Junior College and registered for classes in the Spring 2001 semester. I attended that semester, but skipped the Fall to return again in the Spring 2002.
During this time I met my future wife, Kathy and less than a year later we were married on June 22, 2002 in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. Before we got married, at Christmas, 2001 we came to visit her brother, Kelly, in Richardson, TX. We viewed some of the Dallas/Fort Worth area and saw the price of homes in the area and were shocked that they were a tiny fraction of the housing prices in the San Francisco Bay Area. I, almost jokingly, said that we should move to Dallas and buy a house. Kathy laughed it off and said that she would never consider moving to Texas. But after a short time we both began thinking of this idea very seriously. We began searching for homes via the internet and had made connections with a real estate agent, who just happened to be my brother in law's neighbor. Needless to say, since I am here telling my story, we moved to Texas.
My wife worked in the tele-com industry in California and was able to get a starting job soon after we moved here, but was able to get a job with the same company that she worked for in California, X-O Communications, after about a year of living here..
We moved into our house in Rowlett on the eastern edge of the D-FW metroplex in July 2002.
I immediately registered for school at Eastfield Junior College, which I attended for three semesters and I enjoyed it very much. I then enrolled into Texas A&M - Commerce where I will complete my degree and credential program.
My wife and I have two wonderful dogs that we love greatly and two awesome cats, all of which help make living so far away from our long time homes, the San Francisco Bay Area, much more bearable.
I look forward to teaching in Rockwall ISD or possibly Garland ISD, so that I might stay close to my new home.
