| Art and Religion Poster assignment - grade 5
Poster is due during the week of Sept. 22nd (DAY OF YOUR ART CLASS) The main goal for this project is for students to learn how to put a poster together. During the school years and beyond, poster methods and techniques are valuable. Writing letters by hand (lettering) will offer the student the understanding of how to use fonts as it relates to proportion and color. Graphic design is an important skill in presenting any project to convey a message. Students will be receiving specific instructions and directions by the art teacher as well as practice lettering in art class. Examples will be demonstrated in class. If you are absent during this presentation, see me for directions. The final poster will be completed at home, by the student. This poster is about God, God is everywhere. You may use a title that relates to this subject. Your poster will include pictures and sentences related to each other. Students will receive two grades for this project (art and religion). The language arts teacher will provide specific instructions on the poster content, if you are unclear on the subject. The art teacher is providing specific instructions on poster assembly. (if you are not clear what the poster is about, see the language arts teacher) Poster making/assembly requirements and steps: THIS POSTER WILL BE DONE BY THE STUDENT ONLY and parents will check for accuracy or assist with layout. Use a white standard white poster, cut in half (half size) to be used as shown in class (PORTRAIT). Print your name, grade level and room number in the FRONT, right bottom (NOT on the back). ALL lettering will be written by hand (no tracing or computer generated accepted for lettering). We will practice lettering in class. Write your letters in pencil first (lightly), AS SHOWN IN CLASS see hand out. Use at least 3 guide lines when writing your letters, 4 or 5 is better. Proof your spelling (by another person), and go over in dark color marker such as black, blue, brown, purple or green. Erase pencil marks after going over with a marker (wait until ink dries). All lettering will be in dark colors using felt tip marker or sharpie (where stated black pen it means felt tip or Sharpie). DO NOT use ball point pen anywhere on your poster (no erasable pens-use markers only) Use pictures from magazines, photos from an old book, or computer generated pictures, etc. You may use a copy machine for your pictures, black and while or color copy. You may use pictures from the internet but cut off any words or sentences. Glue your pictures completely so they lie down flat. (You might consider spreading the glue with your fingers or a brush). Use approximately 5 to 10 pictures total (the size of the pictures will dictate how many to use). Drawings are acceptable). Write 2 to 3 complete sentences under each picture. (points will be deducted if you use only one sentence). Keep your work clean. How can your poster attract attention? Cut and glue pictures evenly/straight. Apply the glue on your pictures with a brush for a smooth finish. When gluing the pictures and writing the text, keep balance in mind. Use a color paper behind your picture to attract attention, if youd like. Keep text to a minimum, using a few short simple sentences. Heading should be larger than text Letters (font) should be simple and easy to read (stay away from multi colors and fancy fonts). Dont use too many colors and fonts for lettering. Keep ALL your letters straight (for title and sentences). Schedule: Once the student receives classroom instructions (after first class), you can begin gathering pictures and cutting them. Wait for the rest of the classroom instructions. After the second class students will be able to assemble the materials and complete the poster at home.
