Gator has wanted what he calls a "toque" for years. This is a long tube (thirty-six inches in this case), closed at both ends,
that can be used as a scarf when stretched out or one end can be punched up into the other and
it can be worn as a double thickness cap with a large brim four or six layers thick, depending on
how many times you fold it up. I finally found a pattern (I hadn't made a hat before and felt I needed
a pattern to follow) that met the requirements in the Fatigue Cap.
It looks pretty ridiculous on me, I think, but Gator's head is quite
a bit bigger than mine and I think it will work well for him. I used Lion Brand Micro Spun sport weight
yarn on US6 dpn's. I like the feel of the Micro Spun in the finished product, but found it annoying
as all get out to work with. It is poorly plied and separates readily and snags easily. I won't be using
this yarn again.
