Situated on the man made island of Ill Notre Dame on the St Lawrence river, just across from the beautiful city centre of Montreal, lies the high speed Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
Part of the track runs alongside the impressive Olympic rowing basin, with a footbridge across providing access to the Formula One paddock. This circuit is one of the best on the calendar for overtaking opportunities, with its flowing straights coupled with tight chicanes and a hairpin. The electric atmosphere in Montreal adds to the racing excitement, as the whole city becomes a Grand Prix carnival zone. The track is a part permanent, part street-circuit, so the surface is always quite dusty with a low grip level at the start of the weekend, although as more rubber is laid on the tarmac, a very smooth surface is formed. With long straights and tight chicanes, medium downforce is required to achieve high speeds on the straights, but sufficient grip for the corners.
Jarno also likes the circuit and is happy with the EJ11s chances - provided the car can be set up correctly in Free Practice. "Canada is a very high speed track that I really do like. Our car always performs well here, so hopefully we can achieve even better results than before as we seem to have a good package with the EJ11. It's particularly important to have good car balance at this circuit as its so hard on the brakes."
Team sponsor DANZAS, a subsidiary of Deutsche Post Worldnet, has been working with Jordan chief-truckie Gerard OReilly to design each of the cases to be built up and configured like a 3D jigsaw into seven pallets. This design maximises the use of space both on the plane and in the pit garage. With cases being palletised, it should make the set-up, pack-up and transportation of the team's flyaway equipment, much more efficient, said OReilly. The pallets are easily unloaded from the transporters, and fit perfectly into the round shape of the aircraft hold to maximise storage ability. This also helps to reduce the possibility of damage to equipment. Two of the pallets will act as spare parts stations, and even act as self-contained mobile offices and workshops for the mechanics.
