The Jordan Honda team had a very satisfying qualifying session for the Canadian Grand Prix with both Trulli and Zonta displaying very strong and consistent performances.
Trulli held third position for most of the session until the closing stages, when he was denied the chance to retain this and complete his final run. Following a red flag after Heidfeld put his Sauber in the wall, the marshals incorrectly called him to Parc Ferme, thinking it was the end of the session.
Jarno finished the session in an excellent fourth place with a time of 1:16.459. However he was confident of improving his time if he had been given the chance of a fourth run. I have mixed feeling about qualifying. I am very happy to be on the second row of the grid, but also upset that I was denied the chance to improve my position on my last timed run. The session was red flagged on my last outlap, and wrongly thinking that the session was over, the marshals called me in to Parc Ferme. I was in third place at this time, but this delay meant there was not enough time to re-fuel and get out to complete the outlap before the flag.
He is now looking forward to the race. At least starting from fourth on the grid I have a good chance to do well in the race tomorrow. I am very sorry that Heinz will not race alongside me on Sunday. Its never nice for a driver to not be able to race, but I look forward to seeing him back with the team, stronger than ever, at Nurburgring. For this race though, its good to have Ricardo standing in. He has worked hard on the development of the EJ11 and I hope he has a very good race.
Ricardo Zonta had a very steady session to finish 12 in a time of 1:17.328. Given the little practice time I have had this weekend, twelfth position is not bad. I was gaining confidence with each run and improving my lap times. On the last timed run, I tried to push harder, but unfortunately made a mistake on the first corner so lost my chance to improve further. However, I was still faster in the second and third sectors than on my previous laps. It would have been good to qualify higher but I was possibly being a little over cautious so as not to make any mistakes. The car feels very good and is suited to this track. As my confidence grows I know I can get more out of the car, and have a good potential to finish well in the race tomorrow.
Eddie was more than happy with the days work. Both drivers did a great job today. Jarnos result is excellent and it is good to see him on the second row of the grid, although admittedly frustrating that David pipped him to third place. Twelfth place for Ricardo is commendable, especially since he missed so much running time this morning. I had predicted sixth and 12th today for the team, so we are delighted with this result.
