Ex-Sauber chief designer Stephen Taylor has made a surprise move to Jordan-Honda, after he was expected to return to McLaren-Mercedes.
Speaking at the French Grand Prix, a Jordan spokesman was delighted to announce the appointment of Taylor as the new Head of Composites. He will join the team on Monday 9 July 2001, bringing a wealth of experience from over a decade in Formula One.
Just a week ago, at the European Grand Prix, Dennis hinted Taylor tipped by some insiders as the "next Adrian Newey" was returning to McLaren. It's believed he has left Sauber as he didn't want to live in Switzerland
Joining Jordans strong technical line-up, Taylor began his motorsport career as a project engineer with Advanced Composites Group before moving to Gentech UK, where he was responsible for the composite design on the Larrousse F1 project between 1992 and 1995. His following five years experience in composite construction of primary structures at McLaren has further increased Taylors breadth of skills and expertise.
Commenting on his appointment, Jordans Head of Engineering, Tim Holloway said,
Stephens broad experience will add tremendously to our existing engineering team within the composites field and we look forward to welcoming him to Jordan.
Im greatly looking forward to the challenges and opportunities that such a forward thinking team as Jordan can offer,
commented Taylor. Composites is my field of expertise and this is the area within Formula One that I really enjoy and in which I would like to further my career and knowledge.
