Heinz-Harald Frentzen has been given the green light to participate in Free practice for this weekend's European Grand Prix after undergoing a 40-minute examination with Formula One's medical chief Sid Watkins. However, the German's condition will be assessed again after the completion of today's two hour long practice sessions before a final decision is made as to whether he can race.
The German driver was suffering with concussion after two heavy impacts in a row, at Monaco and Canada, and was advised to sit out both the Canadian Grand Prix and the team's testing session at Silverstone the following week. Now after two weeks of rest and relaxation and an all clear from Watkins, he feels fine and is ready and willing to get back on track this weekend.
I feel fine, he said. As you know I had concussion in Montreal in practice on Friday. Right after the crash, I didn't realize but in the evening I got more and more headaches, so I decided not to race in Montreal. I had some tests with the doctors and fortunately it was only concussion, but the doctor told me that it is not good to have too many concussions in a row.
This news comes as a welcome relief to the Honda powered Jordan outfit who's third driver, Ricardo Zonta is not in the best of health either. Zonta stood in for Frentzen in Montreal, the Brazilian finishes the event in seventh place, and also took over the German's testing duties. However, according to reports, Ricardo dislocated his shoulder while messing around with an engineer, however it was immediately put back into place and the team have stated that he is perfectly fine now.
