27th July - A trouble-free Friday for Jordan.

In amongst the anticipated media feeding frenzy, the Jordan Honda team today completed two productive practice sessions which provided the team with useful car set-up data for the Hockenheimring.

Both Jarno Trulli and Ricardo Zonta ran various brake settings in an effort to find the optimum brake balance for the chicanes and infield section of the track where the cars low downforce set-up hampers grip.

We spent the two sessions working on car set-up for a race distance and trying to find the optimum balance," said Jarno, completing 34 laps with a best ime of 1:42.941. "I ran with the two different tyre options that Bridgestone has brought for this race and also checked brake performance, as a good brake balance is very important at this circuit. We had a few problems with the brakes and need to look at the data to find out what the exact problem is, but I am generally happy with the car and looking forward to qualifying.

Ricardo's session was also trouble-free, but there is still work to be done to find the optimum setup. The Brazilian completed 38 laps, 1:43.461 being his quickest. I mainly ran through tyre and brake tests today. I was quite easy on the brakes for the tyre testing as we had some braking problems during the first session in the morning. The grip level was good with new tyres, although on the first run I was braking too early into the corners. My second run was better as I was more confident on the brakes, although I think I could still have improved further. We made various changes to the car and have definitely made progress. My thirteenth position is not great, but positions are not so important on a Friday and its tomorrow that really counts.

Tim Holloway, Jordan's Head of Engineering, was happy with the day's work. We had a usual Friday working on race set-up. This track is very different to the circuits that we have raced at lately, in the sense that the cars have a very low downforce setting so braking is critical to try and maximise grip in the corners. We ran with a race fuel load and also worked to understand the different tyre compounds for this race. We now have to look at the data to establish our tyre choice for tomorrow.

Eddie Jordan was expecting the media to be hounding him for the source of the problems between himself and Heinz-Harald and he was not far wrong.
There was not much more he could add at this stage, over what has already been said.I realise there has been considerable media coverage of the announcement made earlier this week concerning Heinz-Harald Frentzen, and that there is frustration due to the lack of explanation from the team. We are unable to comment on the details for legal reasons and I would ask everyone to respect this fact.

I understand that the media has been forced to speculate about the background to this decision and have sought comment from sources outside the team including other drivers who previously drove for me, but know nothing of the situation. I can only say that we made a decision, which was not an easy decision, and I knew it would not be popular.

From a human point of view it is sad that Heinz-Harald, who is a friend to our team and achieved good results for us in the past, is not here this weekend. However, there are times when decisions have to be made when faced with a particular situation and this was one such case. Things between us came to a head after the British Grand Prix and I made the decision we announced this week. I am satisfied that, contrary to certain reports, all our sponsors and partners, of whatever nationality, have been very supportive.

Beyond that, I hope Jarno and Ricardo are given the freedom to get on with their jobs this weekend.
