22nd August - Fisichella rejoins.

Giancarlo Fisichella is returning to Jordan, the team for which he drove in 1997.

In a statement issued by the Irish team today, they have confirmed that the current Benetton driver has signed a three-year deal with the Jordan team, which comes into effect after the current season is over.

Team boss Eddie Jordan was overjoyed about the contract. "Planning for the long-term future is vital and stability and continuity are key to success.
"I am overjoyed that Giancarlo has signed a three year contract with us, as this gives Jordan and Honda a strong platform to build on."

Fisichella, 28, drove for Jordan in 1997, securing two podium finishes (3rd in Canada and 2nd in Belgium). He outscored his then teammate, Ralf Schumacher 20 points to 13.

Current Jordan drivers Jarno Trulli and Jean Alesi both have contracts which end after this season. Alesi joined the team only just before the Hungarian GP, and has a contract for the rest of this season, while his position is still unsure for next season though it is thought that either the Frenchman will continue at the team, or Eddie will snap up the latest, and possibly greatest talent to come out of Japan, Takuma Sato.

Meanwhile Jarno Trulli is most likely to be moving from the team, though to where is still not completely confirmed. Benetton boss Flavio Briatore has a contract with him that may see him move to his team next season, though the Italian has also been linked with Mclaren.

According to Trulli he has already signed a contract, he did not reveal with who, but did confirm that it wasn't with Jordan. "I know I have made the right choice, I am still waiting for it to be announced. I have been waiting for a long time. It is going to be announced very soon and I hope everything will work out."
