EXT. - TOWNSVILLE SKYLINE - NIGHT (IT IS CLOUDY AND RAINING)
NARRATOR: Ahh, the city of Townsville (thunder strikes)...IS IN THE MIDDLE OF A THUNDERSTORM!! Wow, that was loud. I wonder how our Girls are taking this.
CUT TO:
EXT. - UTONIUM HOUSEHOLD
Thunder strikes and small screams are heard.
NARRATOR: Apparently not too well.
CUT TO:
INT. - POWERPUFF GIRLS' BEDROOM
The Girls are not visible and a large, shaking bulge is seen instead. Only BLOSSOM can be seen, she is hovering over the bed with an exasperated look on her face.
BUBBLES (from under the covers): Is it over yet?
BUTTERCUP (under covers): Man, what is that?
BLOSSOM: That is thunder. It is simply loud, explosive sound made as air is suddenly expanded by heat and then quickly contracted again. It is harmless, therefore, being scared of it is simply foolish.
Another roll of thunder and a pink streak suddenly zips under the covers faster than you can say "Mojo Jojo". The covers pull up just enough so you can see three sets of eyes in the darkness under the covers. They are light blue (BUBBLES), light green (BUTTERCUP), and pink (BLOSSOM).
BUTTERCUP: So, how's it feel to be a fool?
BLOSSOM (looks toward Buttercup's eyes): Shut up.
BUBBLES: It's okay to be scared, Blossom.
BLOSSOM: I'm not scared!
BUTTERCUP: Come on, Blossom, even I can admit I don't like this lightning.
BLOSSOM: Thunder.
BUTTERCUP: Whatever.
BUBBLES: And if Buttercup can admit she's scared, it must be bad.
BLOSSOM: So, what're we gonna do? We can't sleep like this with all that noise.
BUBBLES: I got an idea.
BUTTERCUP (eyes rolling): This oughta be good.
BUBBLES (ignoring Buttercup): Sometimes when I get scared at night, Daddy lets me sleep in his room. I feel real safe in there.
BLOSSOM: That's not a bad idea, Bubbles.
BUTTERCUP: Better than nothing.
BLOSSOM: Okay, let's go.
They climb out of bed each holding their cherished possessions, Blossom with a BLARNEY THE SINGING SEA SERPENT doll, Bubbles OCTI the octopus, and Buttercup her green blanket, BLANKIE.
CUT TO:
PROFESSOR UTONIUM'S BEDROOM
PROFESSOR UTONIUM is sound asleep in his bed, he is lying on his right side as three bumps appear in his blanket. The Girls' heads pop out of the top of the blanket as the Professor sleeps. Blossom on the left, Buttercup in the middle, and Bubbles on the right. Utonium, who is a sound sleeper, is oblivious to the whole thing.
BLOSSOM: Hey, you're right, Bubbles. I feel better already.
BUTTERCUP: Yeah, I gotta admit, It's not so bad.
BUBBLES: Toldja.
Utonium, who still hasn't noticed the Girls, rolls on his back and accidentally swings his arm into the Girls' faces.
GIRLS: OW!
UTONIUM (waking up and seeing the Girls): Oh, Girls! I'm so sorry. What are you doing here?
BUTTERCUP: We were scared of the lightning.
BLOSSOM: Thunder.
BUTTERCUP: Whatever.
UTONIUM (picks up Blossom and puts her on his lap): Girls, thunder is just noise. It's nothing to be afraid of.
BLOSSOM (trying to sound brave): Yeah, that's what I told them...
BUTTERCUP: ...Right before you flew under the covers with us.
BLOSSOM (quickly): Shut up.
BUBBLES: Can we sleep in here? (while flashing "Bambi Eyes" at Utonium) Please?
UTONIUM: Now Girls, you don't need to be frightened. It's just...
Thunder strikes again.
ALL THREE POWERPUFFS (real high-pitched): Aaaaahhhhh!!
They're holding on to Utonium in a death grip. They let go when they realize they're hurting him.
UTONIUM (in an understanding tone while rubbing his side where the Girls were hanging on): Okay Girls, if you're really that scared, you can sleep in here for tonight.
ALL THREE POWERPUFFS: THANK YOU!
They kiss him and go to sleep. Utonium looks at them fondly.
UTONIUM: Good night, Angels.
PAN OUTSIDE:
Floating in the rain is a spherical robot with four spider legs extending from the base. There is what is clearly a camera extending from it.
CUT TO:
A TV MONITOR WITH THE PROFESSOR AND THE GIRLS ON IT - EXACT LOCATION UNKNOWN
NARRATOR: Oh no, someone's spying on our dear Girls. Who could be so evil so as to remove the simple right of privacy from the Powerpuff Girls?
Sitting in a leather chair watching the monitor is an unseen person, the only thing that can be heard is his breathing.
UNKNOWN (BUT FAMILIAR) VOICE: Hahahahaha, I knew it.
ANOTHER UNKNOWN VOICE: Knew what B-Man?
The chair turns around and the BOOGIEMAN appears. Standing(?) in front of him is the worm with the large feathered hat.
BOOGIEMAN: The weakness of the Powerpuff Girls.
WORM: What's dat, B-Man, sir?
BOOGIEMAN: They're children.
WORM: Huh? I don't get it.
BOOGIEMAN: Of course not. You see, every enemy the Powerpuff Girls have ever faced looked at them as the "goody-goodies" who always foil their plans for evil. But being a Boogieman, I see them as they are which means I can kill. They are children, my dear friend. Look at how quickly the (in condescending tone) "poor wittle babies" (normal tone) go crying to Dad when the thunder scares them and makes them mad. They may be Superheroes, but as you are told by your eyes, they still suffer from the same fears as all the little brats in the world we terrorize.
WORM: Hey, yo' right.
BOOGIEMAN: Yes.
WORM: Uh...B-Man
BOOGIEMAN: What?
WORM: Well, ya see...me an' some a de other guys 'n' ghouls...we're kinda worried about you. You ain't partied at all since the Powerpuffs destroyed the Disco Star.
BOOGIEMAN: I can't party now. I have sworn off parties until our ultimate monster bash is indeed a reality. Only then, can I become the Boogieman you all knew and adored without formality.
WORM: We still love ya' B-Man. (to itself) Though that rhymin' thing ya started doin' is gettin' on our nerves a bit.
BOOGIEMAN: Thanks, and don't scare, I have in progress the plan that will put the Powerpuff Girls out of our hair. Then, after that, you'll fill me in on the latest fad and the Boogieman will boogie once again as the master of rad.
WORM: You rule, B-Man.
BOOGIEMAN: Not yet, but I will...I will.
Boogieman laughs.
CUT TO:
POWERPUFF LIVING ROOM - NEXT MORNING (SATURDAY)
It is still raining and the Girls are sitting on the floor eating bowls of cereal and watching cartoons. Blossom and Bubbles still have their stuffed animals and Buttercup is wearing her blanket on her head, it resembles a green robe with a hood. They keep sending quick glances to the window as the rain continues pounding on the windows.
An occasional bolt of thunder strikes making the Blue and Pink Powerpuffs to clutch their toys while Buttercup pulls her blanket over her head. Professor Utonium is sitting on the couch watching them and is clearly worried.
UTONIUM (thinking to himself): I don't know what to do. I've only had to deal with this sort of thing with Bubbles, I can take care of her. But Blossom and Buttercup think so differently from her, I just don't know what to do.
He gets up and goes to his bedroom. The Girls seem oblivious to him as they watch their cartoons and eat.
UTONIUM (still thinking to himself): I can only think of one person who might give me some insight on how to help them.
He enters his room and goes to the phone. He takes out an address book.
CUT TO:
GIRLS
While the Professor is making his call, the Girls still have their eyes glued to the TV, but they don't seem to be paying any attention to the Road Runner/Wile E. Coyote cartoon in front of them. The camera slowly pans to each individual Girl, stopping for a minute in front of each one as they think about their situation.
BLOSSOM (to herself): I am so stupid. I'm supposed to be the smart, fearless leader of the Powerpuff Girls, and I'm sitting here screaming like a little kid at something I know is harmless. What's wrong with me?
PAN TO:
BUTTERCUP (to herself): I can't stand this! I'm scared of a little noise and I've fought monsters that coulda destroyed the entire planet. I go running to grab Blankie at a
NOISE. What's up with this?
PAN TO:
BUBBLES (to herself): This is scary. But I'm more worried for Buttercup an' Blossom. This seems to scare them more than it does me. I wonder why. Well, it doesn't matter, Blossom's always been there to help me when I get scared and Buttercup's helped too, sometimes. I gotta do somethin' for 'em.
She gets up with Octi in tow and goes to a spot in the living room with plenty of space. Another shot of thunder stops her momentarily, but she keeps going.
CUT TO:
FLOOR IN FRONT OF COUCH
Blossom and Buttercup, so wrapped up in their own thoughts, don't notice Bubbles' absence until they hear Bubbles shout.
BUBBLES: Hey Girls, look what I can do!
They look with half-interest at Bubbles. She is doing a handstand in an attempt to take her sisters' minds off their problems, she also has Octi balanced on her left foot.
BLOSSOM (as she and Buttercup turn back to the TV): Real nice, Bubbles.
BUBBLES: Well, just watch.
Bubbles lifts her left mitt from the ground. She is now standing on one "hand".
BUBBLES: See?
BUTTERCUP (not even turning her head): Yeah, cute.
Bubbles loses her balance and falls over. She's lying on the floor with Octi on her face.
BUBBLES (to herself): That didn't work. What do I do now? I better see Daddy.
CUT TO:
UTONIUM ON THE PHONE
UTONIUM: Thanks, you were a big help Sandy. I'm sorry again about calling during the weekend.
MS. KEANE (on the other side): It's all right Bill, I was happy to help. Good Bye.
UTONIUM: Good bye.
He hangs up the phone, and when he does Bubbles is seen standing at the door, she has a very sad and worried look on her face.
UTONIUM: Bubbles, honey, why aren't you downstairs with your sisters?
BUBBLES (she flies into Utonium's lap): I'm worried 'bout Buttercup an' Blossom. They seem more scared than I do, an' I don't know why.
UTONIUM: Well, I may have a reason. I just got off the phone with Ms. Keane, I felt she was the best person to talk to in this situation.
BUBBLES: What'd she say?
UTONIUM: Something that made a lot of sense to me. She said that Blossom and Buttercup have two sides to their personalities. One's the all-business superhero side...
BUBBLES: Is that the side that fights the monsters?
UTONIUM: Yes, and the other is the side that is a small child scared of the thunder. What she thinks is happening is a conflict between those two sides. The child is frightened of the thunder, and the hero side is ashamed, angry maybe, at the child side for being afraid. That conflict is causing their psyches to react badly and has all but paralyzed them. Bubbles, you will have to be strong for them until we can do something about this, do you understand?
BUBBLES: Yes, Daddy, I'll be strong. Daddy?
UTONIUM: Yes, Bubbles.
BUBBLES: How come I'm not scared as bad as Blossom and Buttercup?
UTONIUM: I noticed that and asked Ms. Keane about this as well. Her thoughts are that you act the same way whether you're fighting monsters or coloring, so you don't have the same conflict going on in you.
BUBBLES: Oh, okay.
UTONIUM: Now, you go play with your sisters while I try to figure out some sort of therapy.
They leave, Bubbles goes downstairs and Utonium goes to his lab.
CUT TO:
BOOGIEMAN LAIR
There is a big party going on as the monsters are gettin' down. A disc on the floor begins to glow and a holographic image of the Boogieman appears.
MONSTER (seeing Boogieman): HEY! It's the boss.
All the other monsters stop what they're doing and stare at the hologram.
BOOGIEMAN HOLO: Monsters, and Monsterettes, I have today devised the plan that will give us the thing we've always wanted, to party on the surface.
The Monsters cheer
BOOGIEMAN: And I also have the means to which to remove from our path to the Ultimate Party the ones who destroyed the Disco Star, the Powerpuff Girls.
Monsters cheer some more.
BOOGIEMAN: In a few days my new Cumulus City will be complete. That city will allow the accomplishment of a special feat. IT is the way to capitalize on the weaknesses of the Powerpuff Girls. Soon, they will be destroyed and we will have the freedom to roam the Earth as we please, and your Boogieman shall return to the Party Machine he once was.
MONSTERS: BLAME IT...ON...THE BOOGIE!
The monsters share an evil laugh as they are filled in on the Boogieman's plan.
CUT TO:
UTONIUM HOUSEHOLD - HOLODECK ROOM
Utonium, holding Blossom and Buttercup by the hand, enters the holodeck control and brings them into the holodeck. They appear very scared.
UTONIUM: It's okay, Girls, the room's soundproofed, and no thunder's getting in here.
Blossom and Buttercup visibly relax.
UTONIUM: I thought maybe some training will get your minds off this thunder thing.
BLOSSOM (trying, but failing, to sound brave): W-w-w-what th-th-th-thunder thing?
BUTTERCUP (also trying to sound brave): W-w-w-w-we d-d-d-don't have a th-th-th-thunder thing.
BUBBLES: It's okay girls. You don't hafta hide it from me an' Daddy.
BUTTERCUP (to herself, while looking away and blushing): This is embarrassing, even Bubbles is being braver than me. What's wrong with me?
BLOSSOM (to herself): Ah, man...why is Bubbles okay when me and Buttercup are scared out of our wits? Well...at least she's not laughing at us.
UTONIUM: Now why don't you step in the holodeck and do a little training. It'll take your mind of your troubles.
BLOSSOM: O-o-okay...
BUTTERCUP: S-s-s-sure, why n-n-n-not?
They enter the holodeck, with Bubbles close behind.
UTONIUM: All right Girls, get ready.
The holodeck changes into an image of Townsville. The Girls nervously assume a fighting stance. The monster appears, it appears to be a large eyeball on two very long legs. There is a small mouth underneath the eye which lets out a small yell.
EYE MONSTER: STAT! STAT!
BLOSSOM (nervously, but slowly gaining some confidence): Okay, girls, let's go!
They fly at the monster, but it lets out numerous beams from its eyes preventing head on attack. Buttercup goes underneath and uppercuts the creature in the mouth. The monster staggers back a little but regains its balance. As Blossom launches an attack from behind, Professor Utonium watches from the control room with keen interest.
UTONIUM (to himself): This is good, their attention is fully focused on the simulation. Now, to see if this will work.
He turns a knob on the control panel and the sky in the simulator grows dark. Small amounts of lightning strike around the girls, but there is no thunder to accompany it. The silent lightning is unnoticed by the Powerpuffs as they battle they Eyeball creature.
UTONIUM (to himself): Perfect. They aren't even noticing the lightning. Now, to gradually add some thunder. Hopefully, they'll keep fighting and realize thunder's nothing to be scared of.
He turns another knob a small bit and very dim thunder is heard in the simulator, the Girls do not notice it.
UTONIUM (to himself): Yes, that's it girls, just keep fighting.
He turns the knob a bit further and the simulated thunder grows slightly louder. The Girls are intent on their fighting and do not notice the noise of the thunder.
UTONIUM (to himself): Wonderful, just keep increasing it in small amounts and the girls will be cured of this fear in no time.
The phone rings, and Utonium reluctantly breaks away to answer it.
UTONIUM: I'm sorry, but whatever it is will have to wait. (person on other end talks) No I'm not interested in a subscription to Mime Life Magazine. (person on other end talks) I don't care if your rates are low. (other end) I thought mimes weren't supposed to talk. (other end) Well if you're not a mime you shouldn't be selling the magazine, now I really have to (other end) How many times do I have to say "no"!
Utonium slaps his hand on the control console. He accidentally hits a button marked "Max" and there is a loud boom from the simulator. Utonium immediately turns to the control room window. Upon looking inside he immediately hangs up the phone, hits the simulator's Emergency Shutoff switch and runs inside.
CUT TO:
Inside the simulator, Blossom and Buttercup are sitting on the floor in a fetal position, rocking themselves back and forth. Bubbles is doing her best to calm them down.
Utonium runs into the simulator and scoops up Blossom and Buttercup into his arms. They grab on to him past the point of hurting him. But the Professor simply winces and hangs on to the frightened girls.
UTONIUM: Oh, Girls! I'm so, so sorry! I was trying to help you get over your fears, but I never wanted this!
Blossom and Buttercup continue to cry into Utonium's shoulder as Bubbles looks on with obvious concern.
CUT TO:
BOOGIEMAN WATCHING THE SCENE IN THE SIMULATOR
BOOGIEMAN (laughs): The Absent-Minded Professor strikes again.
WORM: Yeah, all but that blue one completely freaked out.
BOOGIEMAN: Yes, sweet little Bubbles, the blue one...(with obvious contempt) so unlike her sisters, the brain and the gun. She is the thing creatures like us despise...a child, A CHILD, who above her fears can rise. Such things are not for children to accomplish, they are for us to torture, until believing in us is no longer their dish. She feared me, worm, as all children do when we advance...but she moved beyond it, and destroyed the Disco Star with but a glance. She could be a very serious threat. A threat that must, and will, be met.
WORM: You're kiddin' right, B-Man? I mean look at her, she's (sneering) "the joy and the laughter".
BOOGIEMAN: You idiot, joy and laughter are two things that our kind disgust. The simple fact that she's described as she is makes destroying her a must.
WORM: If you say so.
BOOGIEMAN: I do.
WORM: So what do we do now?
BOOGIEMAN: Wait it out, see what develops with their fears. This incident makes me want to try something with some creatures.
WORM: What?
BOOGIEMAN: You'll see my little friend. You'll see.
CUT TO:
UTONIUM HOUSEHOLD - LIVING ROOM - AFTERNOON
Blossom is sitting next to Professor Utonium on the couch with the Blarney the Sea Serpent doll clutched close. Buttercup is on the couch bundled up asleep with her blanket, though it's anything but peaceful as she tosses and turns.
Utonium rests his hand on Buttercup's head and Buttercup grows calmer. He also puts his other arm around Blossom, who leans into Utonium's side. Bubbles sits on the floor in front of the couch looking up at her sisters with a worried expression on her face. Professor Utonium looks outside to see the storm clouds clearing.
UTONIUM (to himself): Wonderful, that will give the Girls a chance to recover from this. And gives me time to figure out a way to help them for the next thunderstorm. (out loud) Well, it seems the storms clearing. (takes Blossom in his arms) Whaddya say I make us some lunch?
BUBBLES: Okay.
BLOSSOM (with some relief in her voice): All right.
BUBBLES: What about Buttercup?
UTONIUM: We'll let her sleep for now. I'll make her something when she wakes up.
BUBBLES: All right.
Utonium carries Blossom into the kitchen with Bubbles floating close behind. Meanwhile, Buttercup lies sound asleep on the couch with her blanket clutched close to her. As she sleeps the Powerpuff Hotline Rings with its usual repetitive buzzing. Buttercup groans and groggily sits up and answers it.
BUTTERCUP: Yeah...(yawn)...uh-huh...(rubs her eyes)...yeah...o...(yawn)...kay...alright. (hangs up the phone and yells out) Hey, where are you guys?
UTONIUM (from the kitchen): In the kitchen Buttercup, you hungry?
BUTTERCUP: A little, but the Mayor just called! Says there's a monster attacking Townsville.
BLOSSOM (coming into living room with Bubbles): Okay. Let's go.
UTONIUM (coming in behind the Girls): Are you up for it? Maybe you should let the Police handle it.
BLOSSOM (confidence rising in her voice): We have to Daddy. The Police can't handle monsters.
BUTTERCUP (more confident): Yeah, Daddy, we aren't babies. We can still kick butt with the best of 'em.
BUBBLES: Right. So let's do it!
The Girls fly through the door and head toward Townsville.
CUT TO:
DOWNTOWN TOWNSVILLE - AFTERNOON - SUNNY SKY
The Girls fly into Townsville to see a large, short necked, skinny-legged brontosaurus like creature. The girls launch several punches, kicks, and eye beams into the dino, but with little or no effect.
BLOSSOM (back in full leader-mode): Nothing we do is working, we have to try to get him off balance.
BUTTERCUP/BUBBLES: Right!!
The girls prepare a charge when all of a sudden the monster lets out a roar.
BRONTO: TAAT!
With that two flaps open on top of its head. All of a sudden a loud boom occurs and demolishes a nearby building. Blossom and Buttercup break their charge and just stare at the creature in terror.
BUBBLES (realizing her sisters have stopped): Blossom? Buttercup? What's wrong?
Blossom and Buttercup slowly float to the ground and enter the same fetal position they assumed in the holodeck. They are slowly rocking themselves as Bubbles goes down to them.
BUBBLES: Girls!? What's wrong?
The monster suddenly opens its head flaps again and lets out another of its sonic booms. With a "TAAT" it unleashes the attack and demolishes another building. As Bubbles watches the attack she realizes something about the monster's sonic boom attacks.
BUBBLES: It sounds like thunder!
BUTTERCUP (while rocking herself): Go away...go away...go away...go away...away...
Blossom simply cries to herself while she rocks.
BUBBLES (thinking): They're scared 'cause of the thunder noise. I gotta do something.
Another "TAAT" sounds and a building goes down.
BUBBLES (thinking): But first...
She flies up and looks around for something to use. She spots a crane and flies toward it. She grabs the hook on the crane's winch and pulls out the rope attached to the hook. She takes the end of the rope in one hand while taking the hook in the other.
Bubbles then flies toward the monster and swings the hook to latch on to one of the bronto's legs. She then begins circling the creature letting the rope unravel as she does so but keeping the end of it in her hand. After about four to five revolutions around the bronto the rope becomes taught and Bubbles yanks on it.
The monster goes down with as it trips over its own feet. It hits the ground and loses consciousness. Bubbles proceeds to fly back down to her sisters, who have not moved at all through the whole ordeal other than rocking back and forth.
BUBBLES: Girls! Are you okay?
Neither girl responds.
BLOSSOM (to herself): I can't believe how stupid I am. Bubbles made a plan of attack and defeated the monster while I sit here and cried. I'm no leader! I'm worthless as a Powerpuff! (begins to cry harder)
BUTTERCUP (to herself): Man! Even Bubbles is being braver than me! I sat here on my butt rocking like a scared baby and she took down that thing single-handed. I'm not hardcore! I'm a creamy center! (buries her face in her legs)
BUBBLES: (to herself): Oh, no! I think I just made things worse. I wanna be there for 'em, but I don't know what to do. I'm so confused, I better get 'em to Daddy right now!
She takes one of her sisters in each arm and flies them home.
CUT TO:
BOOGIEMAN'S MONITOR ROOM
The Boogieman and Worm have just watched the battle with the mutant bronto.
WORM: Daaaaaaaaaang, Boogie, that dino made those two go all Super freak-ay. You almost destroyed them for good.
BOOGIEMAN: Yes, but I was out to see if I was right, and thunder does indeed take the away Powerpuff Girls might. But Bubbles the blue girl did not lose to her fright, a fact that puts our plans in great plight. It is time to raise the Cumulus City over Townsville's sight. And Bubbles will come and we'll trap her to torture to my delight.
Boogie hits a button on the control panel.
CUT TO:
TOWNSVILLE ROLLERRINK (ABANDONED)
The roof of the Roller rink opens and a large flying saucer flies out of it, followed by several ships which look like boom box speakers attached by poles.
They float high into the air and stop at a point roughly 250 ft. in altitude. The Boom Box Ships gather around the main ship. The main ship emits a heavy smoke screen which settles over Townsville creating what appear to be dark storm clouds. The Boom Boxes then scatter above the clouds.
CUT TO:
INTERIOR OF SHIP - BRIDGE
Boogieman stands tall as monsters of every shape and size move around the control panels.
BOOGIEMAN: The time we have waited for is her at last, we will soon start the ultimate blast. We need not worry of the Powerpuff coming here, for Cumulus City will exploit the children's fear. Then when we party apart we'll render, the Powerpuff Girls scared and so tender.
The Boogieman's horned drone approaches Boogieman.
DRONE (salutes): B-Man, sir, the Speaker Ships are in place over Townsville. They're just awaitin' your order to start their groove.
BOOGIEMAN: Do it, my friend, the sooner we do this, the sooner the party starts.
DRONE (thinking): Wow! He didn't rhyme this time, he must be doin' better.
The Drone goes to a computer terminal and pushes a button.
CUT TO:
OUTSIDE OF SHIP
The "Speaker Ships" begin emitting very loud noise. The noise is thunder.
CUT TO:
UTONIUM HOME - LATE AFTERNOON - CLOUDY SKY
Professor Utonium sits on the couch, his arms around Blossom and Buttercup, who clutch onto his arms like they were life preservers with one hand and holding their toys, Blossom the Blarney doll and Buttercup her blanket, with the other. They both have expressions of terror on her face, and Blossom is sobbing to herself. Bubbles sits on the floor again looking down at the floor, a depressed expression on their face.
UTONIUM (thinking): Guess that reprieve wasn't as long as we had all hoped. And now Bubbles is being affected. She thinks her being able to fight while her sisters are scared made them feel worse. Sad thing is, she may not be wrong. But I can't let her know that.
There's a knock at the door and Bubbles goes to answer it. She does and MS. SANDRA KEANE, Pokey Oaks Kindergarten's teacher. Enters the house. She takes off a raincoat and puts it on a coat rack.
BUBBLES: Ms. Keane?
SANDY: Hello Bubbles. Your dad told me about your sisters, so when I saw the storm starting up again, I thought that you might want some help.
Buttercup looks over to Sandy and suddenly flies out of the couch and into Sandy's arms at super speed. The sheer inertia of Buttercup's flight sends Sandy into the wall. Buttercup begins crying noisily into Sandy's shoulder.
Sandy recovers and begins to comfort Buttercup.
SANDY: It's okay, Buttercup, I know it's bad.
BUTTERCUP (low enough for only Sandy to hear): It's horrible, Mommy! I've never been this scared of anything before! Not ever!
SANDY (to herself): It must be bad, Buttercup has always watched to make sure she doesn't accidentally call me "Mom". If she's not even concerned about it...the poor child. (to Buttercup) It's alright, Baby, I'm here for you. And so's your Daddy, and Bubbles.
Buttercup becomes calm with Sandy's consoling words. Sandy sits down on the couch and sets Buttercup on her lap. Buttercup leans against Sandy and continues crying.
SANDY (to Utonium): Wow! You weren't kidding. They're scared to death. Is Bubbles doing okay?
BUBBLES (overhearing the question): I'm fine Ms. Keane, I'm too scared about Buttercup and Blossom to be scared of the thunder.
SANDY: Well, that's good, you can at least be here to help your sisters.
BUBBLES: Yeah...
UTONIUM: We really must find a way to cure them of this. It could affect them their entire lives if we don't do something about this now.
SANDY: We should talk in private, Bill.
UTONIUM: Right. (begins to let go of Blossom, but she hangs on to him) Blossom, honey, let go...I'll only be a few minutes.
BLOSSOM (near frantic): No, Daddy, don't go! Please!
Utonium looks to the side to see Sandy having the same problems with Buttercup, neither Girl wants their respective adult to leave them.
SANDY (to Buttercup): It'll be all right, Baby, we won't be far away and Bubbles is here with you.
UTONIUM (to Blossom): We won't be long, sweetheart.
They get the Girls to let go, albeit reluctantly, and head into the kitchen to talk in private. In the living room, the two Powerpuffs hang on to their security items with an incredible grip.
CUT TO:
KITCHEN
Sandy and Utonium are at the table talking to each other.
SANDY: Wow it really is bad.
UTONIUM: I've tried one treatment, but it backfired on us and made the problem worse.
SANDY: What did you try.
UTONIUM: I tried some training to maybe desensitize them. I had hoped they would concentrate on something else and ignore the thunder. But I got distracted and accidentally turned it up to high.
SANDY: Oh dear.
UTONIUM: And that recent monster fight only made things worse.
SANDY: How's that?
UTONIUM: That thing's thunder attack caused them to relapse into fear. Bubbles had to fight it on her own...
SANDY: And their hero-side didn't like having the "youngest" Powerpuff do something they couldn't.
UTONIUM: Exactly, just like their child side gave in to fear in the holodeck because of my own mistake.
SANDY (consoling): Now don't go blaming yourself for that.
UTONIUM: I can't help but feel I'm responsible.
SANDY: Accidents happen, we just have to try something else.
UTONIUM: Yeah, you're right, but what?
SANDY: Well, it obviously has to be something that'll appeal to both sides of their personality.
UTONIUM: Such as...?
SANDY (thinking of an answer): Well (shakes her head)...I'm not sure.
UTONIUM: Me either. Right now I think the best thing is if they don't do any crime fighting for a while.
SANDY: Are you sure that's best, you know how the Girls enjoy fighting crime.
UTONIUM (stands up): No, I'm not sure if it's the best thing. But I think what they need right now is a break. This fear didn't come from nowhere, I have to at least know what factors caused it. Some time off might give me time to do that and do them some good as well. I have another Bahamas vacation plan that I could use. I'll have to take the girls out of school for a while...
SANDY: Oh, of course. But still, do you think that's wise?
UTONIUM: I don't know if it is or not. But the girls need some time away. One of the factors might be stress, they've been really overdoing it since that horrid dream they had that day they raced home. A vacation would help relieve them a bit.
SANDY: Dream? You mean that awful future thing?
UTONIUM: Yeah, it made the Girls think they had to be there for Townsville all the time. They thought they couldn't even leave for one weekend. That had to cause a lot of stress. I've got to get them away for a while, if I have to I'll even have the Mayor order them to go.
SANDY: Hopefully, we won't have to do anything that drastic.
UTONIUM: Hopefully...
SANDY: But for right now we should just be there for them. Blossom and Buttercup need us right now more than they ever have before.
They go back to the living room
CUT TO:
CUMULUS CITY BRIDGE
The Drone again approaches Boogieman.
DRONE: Everything's in place Boogieman, sir.
BOOGIEMAN: Wonderful, are the Speaker Ships placed where I want them?
DRONE: Yep, and there's also Speaker Ships placed around the Powerpuff Girls house with a proximity setting. They can't go 5 feet from their home without getting a rockin' earful of thunderclaps.
BOOGIEMAN: Perfect, everything is now in place. Let it be known, Drone, the Ultimate Party can BEGIN!!!
DRONE (enthusiastically): Yes, SIR!
The Drone walks away.
CUT TO:
UTONIUM LIVING ROOM
Sandy and Utonium are on the couch, with Buttercup and Blossom in their laps. Buttercup appears to be asleep, Blossom is awake but appears to be starting to nod off. Bubbles, with a still concerned look on her face, absent-mindedly watches a cartoon in front of them.
BLOSSOM: (sleepily): Are we really gonna go to the Bahamas, Daddy?
UTONIUM: Yes, sweetheart, we are.
BLOSSOM: But what 'bout Townsv...
UTONIUM (interrupting): Townsville will be fine. It can survive without you for a little while.
BLOSSOM: But...
UTONIUM: No buts, it'll HAVE to survive. Your health and comfort are the most important things to me. And I think you need some time to yourselves away from Townsville. Okay?
BLOSSOM (reluctantly): Okay Daddy.
Blossom rests her head against Utonium's head and falls asleep.
BUBBLES (with obvious distress): DADDY! Look at the TV!
Utonium and Sandy look at the television to see a Special News Report. It shows monsters of several sizes and shapes. Reporter STANLEY WHITFIELD appears on-screen.
WHITFIELD: These strange creatures from the Netherworld appear to be dancing in the streets in mass numbers. They constantly play disco music and seem to be chanting "Blame it on the Boogie" on a regular basis. No one seems to know what's happening and we await the Powerpuff Girls rescue.
Utonium turns off the TV.
BUBBLES (low voice): Boogieman!
UTONIUM (not hearing Bubbles): The nerve of him, just assuming that the girls would come to the rescue. They're in no condition to do that.
SANDY: They really are taking them for granted. Expecting them to instantly take responsibility, THEY'RE FIVE! (becomes increasingly aggravated) For Pete's sake, look at Blossom, she thinks she's supposed to set examples for others, while THEY'RE the ones who are supposed to be setting examples for her and her sisters, and look at what it's done to her and Buttercup. The girls can't be expected to go to action every single time there's a little problem, especially now.
UTONIUM: I know, I know, I'm going to call the Mayor to let him know the Girls can't fight now. He and Miss Bellum will just have to figure something else out.
Bubbles stands up but doesn't turn to look at Sandy and Utonium.
BUBBLES: I'll go.
Utonium and Sandy look at Bubbles shocked.
UTONIUM: Bubbles...?
BUBBLES: I know who's doing this. Me an' Buttercup an' Blossom fought him once before, it's the Boogieman.
SANDY (a bit skeptically): The Boogieman?
BUBBLES: Yeah, he tried t' make night last forever but we were able to stop 'im before he could. Blossom knew somethin' was wrong 'cause all the monsters were throwin' a big party in the streets and it woke us up.
UTONIUM: Bubbles, I can't let you go, it's too dangerous.
BUBBLES (finally turns around): Daddy, I'll betcha anything that the Boogieman is 'sponsible for all this. The monsters, the party in Townsville, maybe even the thunder that's makin' Blossom and Buttercup scared. (begins to cry) I gotta go. If I don't Blossom an' Buttercup'll be scared forever. (Openly sobs) An' I can't let that happen!
The adults look at Bubbles sympathetically.
UTONIUM: Bubbles, honey...
BUBBLES (still very teary): I gotta! There's no other way!
SANDY: Sweetheart, it's too dangerous. That many monsters...all on your own...
BUBBLES (no longer crying & much more determined): I don't care! Do somethin' to make it less dangerous! But I gotta try an' stop Boogieman!
UTONIUM (realizing that changing Bubbles's mind is impossible): Alright, I'll let you go...but we're going to try to find out exactly what's happening out there first.
BUBBLES (nods): Okay.
CUT TO:
UTONIUM'S BASEMENT LABORATORY
Utonium is working on a computer while Sandy tends to Blossom and Buttercup, who are both in a fitful sleep on cots set up in the lab. Bubbles is floating back and forth in a pacing style.
UTONIUM (looking up from computer): Well, I went into some satellite systems, and there is definitely something out there. There's some kind of UFO out there.
SANDY: Really?
UTONIUM: Yes, about two hundred fifty feet above Townsville. There are also several ships scattered around the city. They're giving off sounds, it seems to be thunder. I think Bubbles was right...
BUBBLES: I was?
UTONIUM: Yes, something IS making this thunderstorm last longer. And probably because they know about the Girls' fear. I don't know if it's a Boogieman, but there's something there for sure.
BUBBLES (determined): Well then, I'm gonna go there and beat it so Blossom an' Buttercup won't need t'be afraid.
SANDY: Not before we get you prepared. You've never done anything like this on your own, and we don't know what we're up against. We're going to be as ready as we can.
BUBBLES: Okay, Ms. Keane. How're you gonna prepare me?
UTONIUM: Something I've been working on in case of an emergency.
BUBBLES: Not another DyNaMo...
UTONIUM (looking a little hurt): No, Bubbles, not another DyNaMo. It's this... (pushes a button on the computer)
A door hidden in the wall opens up and three sets of clothing are seen. They resemble pilots' uniforms colored in pink, baby blue, and light green and have black boots. There are also white helmets with orange visors that have a heart logo on them.
BUBBLES (awestruck): Wow!
UTONIUM: The suits are made of a super strong fabric that can resist most attacks, like a lightweight armor. There are small magnets in the boots which allow you to walk on nearly any surface. The helmet has a radio so we can keep in contact with you. There are also infrared scanners and radar systems in the visor so you can see through the clouds that ship is generating. The visor also amplifies the power of your eye beams.
BUBBLES (not understanding): Am...pli...
UTONIUM: Makes them stronger.
BUBBLES: Oh. So this stuff is gonna help me beat the Boogieman?
UTONIUM: Yep.
As Sandy helps Bubbles suit up, the computer begins beeping; Utonium checks it.
UTONIUM: Uh oh.
SANDY (helping Bubbles into the pilot suit): Uh oh, what?
UTONIUM: There seem to be a large number of ships in a 50-foot radius of the house.
BUBBLES (putting her arms in the sleeves): What's that mean?
UTONIUM: There are a bunch of 'em around us right now.
SANDY (helping with Bubbles's boots): Oh, dear. What do we do?
UTONIUM: They don't appear to have any weapons on them. It almost looks as if they're giant...speakers?
SANDY (helping Bubbles adjust her helmet): Speakers?
UTONIUM: Yeah, but what they're for I have no idea.
BUBBLES (pulling on black gloves): I'm ready.
UTONIUM: Are you sure you want to do this?
Bubbles simply nods
UTONIUM: Alright, good luck sweetheart.
SANDY: And be careful.
BUBBLES: Thanks, Daddy, I will, Ms. Keane.
She flies out of a basement window and toward the ship.
CUT TO:
Bubbles is flying through the air towards Cumulus City. She doesn't get very far when extremely loud thunderclaps sound in the air. Bubbles stops for a second and listens.
BUBBLES (to herself): That's what those Speaker thingies were for. We try to leave, they make thunder, and we run back in scared. (angry/determined look on her face) It's not gonna work on me!
UTONIUM (from radio): Bubbles? Can you hear me?
BUBBLES: Yeah, I can hear you, Daddy. I'm heading for the ship now.
UTONIUM: Okay. The ship is 100 feet above you and about 350 feet ahead of you.
BUBBLES: All right. Are Blossom and Buttercup okay?
UTONIUM: They're fine, they woke up when another shot of thunder hit. Ms. Keane's with them right now, they'll be fine. You just keep going.
BUBBLES: Right. (sets off)Oh, wait...Daddy, those speakers are making the thunder. They go off when someone gets too far from the house.
UTONIUM: All right. Thank you, Bubbles. Good luck.
She flies off again. But stops after a few minutes, she sees a Speaker ship. She aims and fires her eye beams, totally destroying it. She continues on her way.
CUT TO:
CUMULUS CITY BRIDGE
The Drone is watching monitors and turns to Boogieman
DRONE: Uh, Boogie, you're not gonna believe this...
BOOGIEMAN (starts getting angry): Tell me.
DRONE: One of the Powerpuff Girls is headin' this way right now!
BOOGIEMAN: WHAT!?
Boogieman looks at the monitors and sees Bubbles, in pilot suit, coming toward Cumulus City.
BOOGIEMAN (angry): That...little...PUNK!
DRONE: Should we fire our lasers?
BOOGIEMAN: Yes, but don't destroy her. Just some warning shots across her nose, but let her come.
DRONE: Sir?
BOOGIEMAN: If it were anyone else you could blast them out of the sky, but this one I want to handle...personally.
DRONE: Yes...sir. (to himself) Man, that kid shoulda never ticked off the Boogie so much. She's gonna get it good now.
CUT TO:
BUBBLES FLYING THROUGH THE AIR
Bubbles is flying towards Cumulus City, now visible, her eyes showing that she has no intention of backing down. Green lasers suddenly shoot out of the ship and Bubbles dives and zigzags to avoid them. After dodging for a minute she dodges the wrong way and a laser hits her dead-on. There's a brief explosion, and after it clears Bubbles is revealed unharmed except for some tears on her clothing. She continues on to the Cumulus City.
CUT TO:
BOOGIEMAN: You morons! I said ACROSS her nose not UP it! Who's the moron running the guns, anyway?
A monster turns to face Boogieman.
MONSTER: I am sir, sorry.
The monster is a creature with eyes like a fly's.
MONSTER: I was tryin' to keep from hittin' all of 'em sir. It's impossible.
BOOGIEMAN: Get someone with single vision up there, now!
DRONE: Yes, sir!
BOOGIEMAN: Oh, forget it. Just let her in.
DRONE: No problem, Boogie.
CUT TO:
BUBBLES
As she flies toward Cumulus City a doorway opens up. Bubbles flies in, heedless of the obvious danger. She floats into a hallway with metal floors and walls. She stops flying and walks on foot to examine her surroundings.
BUBBLES (activating her radio): Daddy? (static) Daddy, can you hear me? (static) Are you there Daddy?
BOOGIEMAN: I'm afraid...Daddy can't help you any more.
Bubbles turns around and gasps at what she sees.
CUT TO:
UTONIUM AND SANDY
Sandy is has her arm around Blossom, who's clutching her Blarney doll. Buttercup is wrapped in her blanket and looks worried. Utonium is on a radio, attempting to contact Bubbles.
UTONIUM: Bubbles? (static) Bubbles? (static) Can you hear me?! BUBBLES?! (static)
BLOSSOM: Is something wrong, Daddy?
UTONIUM (trying to prevent Blossom from worrying): No, honey, everything's fine. Heh heh. You don't have to worry.
BLOSSOM: Yeah we do...she went out by herself didn't she.
BUTTERCUP: 'Cause we're too chicken to do anything.
SANDY: Now that's not true.
BUTTERCUP: Yeah it is! Bubbles is out there fightin' and me an' Blossom are sittin' here! We'd be sucking our thumbs if we had any!
Blossom just looks at the floor.
UTONIUM: Bubbles...?
BUBBLES: (static) Da... (static) Boogi... (static) he... (static) oof...
A dim laughing is heard and static is suddenly interrupted with a loud crunch.
UTONIUM: Bubbles!?!?
Sandy and the other two girls look at Utonium.
BUTTERCUP: Where'd she go?
SANDY: There's a ship in the sky, and Bubbles went to investigate. She thought it was the Boogi...
BLOSSOM/BUTTERCUP (interrupting): Boogieman!?
SANDY: Yes, you really did fight him?
They nod.
UTONIUM (ignoring Sandy and the Girls): I can't even get a signal now.
BUTTERCUP (worried, but regaining confidence): Bubbles could be in trouble!
BLOSSOM (also confident again): We gotta help!
UTONIUM: Wait Girls, you don't know about the...
Before Utonium or Sandy can stop them they blast out of the roof and into the sky. But they don't get five feet before a thunderclap hits. The girls scream and flash back into the lab. Going under the cot and grabbing their blanket and doll and clutching them tight.
UTONIUM: ...speakers...
SANDY (whispering to Utonium): Keep working on getting in touch with Bubbles. I'll try and get the Girls out from under there.
Utonium nods and turns back to the computer while Sandy bends down to try and coax the Girls from under the cot.
SANDY: Now girls, I'm sure Bubbles is just fine. You don't have to go out there if you don't want to. Bubbles will be back before you know it. There's no reason to worry. Now, come out of there.
The Girls don't budge.
BLOSSOM (to herself): Bubbles is out there, by herself. She could be fighting to save the world and I'm here scared like a coward. I've got to be out there. Bubbles could be in danger. I can't let anything happen to her. She's too important. She's a part of our team and my sister. I can't let her down. And thunder or no thunder I WON'T let her down.
BUTTERCUP (to herself): I'm such a wuss. I'm here scared to death and Bubbles is fighting the Boogieman. I've always tried to watch out for her, I never meant it when I made fun of her. Now she's watchin' out for me an' Blossom. And it got her in trouble, I gotta help her, no matter what.
Blossom and Buttercup exchange looks, nod to each other, and crawl out from the cot. Sandy backs up to give the girls room. The Girls look at the adults, the fear in their eyes gone.
BLOSSOM: Ms. Keane, Daddy...
BUTTERCUP: Suit us up!
Sandy and Utonium smile as they nod their heads.
CUT TO:
BUBBLES AND BOOGIEMAN
Boogieman is fighting with Bubbles in the depths of Cumulus City. He's using his cane as a bat, swinging it at Bubbles, now without a helmet, who deftly dodges each attack. This sort of attack continues for a while until Boogieman stops. They stop in a large room with several boxes stacked inside. Behind Bubbles is a plate glass window.
BOOGIEMAN: You're good girl. Whoever taught you did a pretty dandy job, but nowhere near dandy enough.
BUBBLES (looks exhausted, but unhurt): Yeah? What'cha gonna do?
Boogieman just laughs as he flips up the top of his cane, revealing a red button. He pushes the button and several large vents open up behind him. Air begins rushing out of it and blows all the boxes around the room and eventually through the window. Bubbles tries to resist but is eventually overpowered by the wind and sent through the window herself. She falls through the air and lands on a platform in a room on the other side of the window.
The room is a large, vertical shaft. The platform is a small, thin, ramp with railings on the sides leading to a column in the center of the room. Bubbles lands smack dab in the middle of the platform. She falls on her back and just barely rolls out of the way of another strike from Boogieman.
BOOGIEMAN: Time to stop playing around, child.
With this he takes out his cane and grabs the bottom end of it. He pushes another button and the top three-fourths of the cane drop off revealing a mean-looking, red-bladed sword. Bubbles sees the blade and frantically searches for something to use. She rips of a piece of the railing on her left and holds it like a sword of her own. Boogieman attacks with a downward slash, which Bubbles parries with the rail.
She counterattacks with a hard swing which hits Boogieman in the arm holding the sword. Boogieman grabs his arm and lets out a small yelp of pain. He glares at Bubbles and strikes again.
CUT TO:
SKY AROUND CUMULUS CITY
Blossom and Buttercup, now in pilot suits and helmets like Bubbles's, are flying through the air near Cumulus City. They wince whenever a thunderclap hits but other than that they appear unafraid.
BLOSSOM (Activating her radio): Daddy, this is Blossom, do you read?
UTONIUM (from radio): Yes, Blossom, I read you perfectly. Buttercup, do you read?
BUTTERCUP: I'm here.
UTONIUM: Okay, just checking. You're heading in the right direction. You're approaching the perimeter of Speakers. When you get to the ship itself I'll try to instruct you where to go from there. Right now, I'll help clear the way for you.
BLOSSOM/BUTTERCUP: Right.
A beam of blue lightning suddenly shoots between the two Powerpuffs and hits a Speaker Ship in front of them.
BLOSSOM: Nice shot, Daddy.
UTONIUM: Thanks, I call it the 'Ironic Cannon' since lightning's destroying thunder, instead of causing it.
BLOSSOM (not really all that interested): Umm...okay...Let's go.
CUT TO:
CUMULUS CITY BRIDGE
The Drone is standing at the head of the bridge.
MONSTER AT RADAR: Sir, there're two unidentified cats out there. Whadda we do?
DRONE: Who are they?
MONSTER AT RADAR: It seems to be the other two Powerpuff Girls.
DRONE: What? They're supposed to be off somewhere cryin' in their Daddy's arms. What're they doing here? Send some Speaker Ships and air monsters after them.
MONSTER AT RADAR: Are you sure that's wise, sir?
DRONE: Boogie said that we if it were anyone else we could blast 'em out of the sky. So do it!
MONSTER AT RADAR: Got it, sir!
CUT TO:
BLOSSOM AND BUTTERCUP
They fly toward Cumulus City and as they do lasers like the ones used against Bubbles fly out from the ship. Also, Speaker Ships and several bat-type creatures fly out of a hatch on the bottom of the city. The bats are wearing shiny jumpsuits with really big bow ties. Blossom and Buttercup take notice.
BLOSSOM: I'll take the bats, you handle the ships.
BUTTERCUP: Got it.
Blossom breaks toward the bats as Buttercup heads straight on toward the Speaker Ships.
CUT TO:
BUBBLES AND BOOGIEMAN
Boogieman and Bubbles are still fighting. Boogieman is continuously striking at Bubbles with his sword as Bubbles dodges and parries with her railing bar. She occasionally counterattacks with bar hurting Boogieman. As the fight, Bubbles is pushed harder and harder toward the column in the center. Bubbles begins to tire, unused to this style of fighting.
BOOGIEMAN (fighting as he talks): Now, (slash) you (parry) die! (thrust) You (feint) little (dodge) punk! (slash)
BUBBLES (fighting as she talks): Geez, (parry) what'd (feint) I ever (thrust) do (parry) to (feint) you? (block)
Boogieman feints by pretending to slash, Bubbles prepares to block but is caught off-guard when Boogieman slams into her face with the handle of his sword. Bubbles reels back and grabs her face.
BOOGIEMAN: Ha ha ha ha!! This moment alone is worth a thousand parties! Time to say good-bye, child! The Disco Star's destruction shall be avenged at last!
The Boogieman launches a full on offensive.
CUT TO:
OUTSIDE OF CUMULUS CITY - BLOSSOM
Blossom is fighting off the bats with what would be relative ease except for the lasers from Cumulus City itself. As she finishes a group of bats, another flight of them come at Blossom from her right. She spots them and launches a surprise offensive which allow her to land a punch into one bat's stomach and a kick to another's head. She then grabs the third bat's bow tie and swings it in a circle several times. She lets go and the bat's momentum sends it flying into the fourth bat. They both go down in a tangle of wings.
BLOSSOM (to herself while looking around): That's the last of 'em, now to see about those lasers.
As she thinks that a beam hits her directly in the back. She begins to fall out of the sky but recovers just in time to swerve out of the way of another laser. She activates her helmet's infrared radar.
BLOSSOM (to herself): Okay...there are small blasts of heat coming out of certain points on the hull. That must be where the lasers are. I'll have to take them out.
Blossom continues her flight toward the City
CUT TO:
CUMULUS CITY BRIDGE
The Drone, currently in command, watches the battle outside.
DRONE (to itself): Dang...those brats are getting too close! (aloud)Launch the air mines!
The monsters rush to obey the order.
CUT TO:
OUTSIDE OF CUMULUS CITY - BUTTERCUP
Buttercup is shooting down several of the Speaker Ships with her eye beams. Some of the ships let out blasts of thunder, but Buttercup manages to tune out the sound long enough to shoot down the noisy ships. But there are too many there for Buttercup to handle. This bad situation is made worse when several objects begin floating out of Cumulus City. They resemble old sea mines with several button-like protrusions sticking out of them.
BUTTERCUP (to herself): Great! What are those things?
Buttercup's question is answered when one of the Speaker Ships collides into a mine and both ship and mine explode in a brief ball of fire.
BUTTERCUP (to herself while looking at growing minefield): Why not? They'd be nuts to follow.
She flies into the minefield at top speed. The Speaker Ships follow her in but several crash into mines and explode. Meanwhile, Buttercup nimbly dodges the mines with little trouble. But the Speaker Ships are nowhere near as maneuverable and clear the minefield behind Buttercup as she navigates the maze of mines. In a short time, all the Speaker Ship and half the minefield are simply one big fireball behind Buttercup.
Buttercup continues toward Cumulus City. As she works her way through the cluster a laser from Cumulus City soars through the minefield setting off a number of mines, which set of other mines. When the explosions clear Buttercup is covering her face and appears unhurt other than several blackened and torn portions of her flight suit.
BUTTERCUP (to herself): Darn lasers!
CUT TO:
BLOSSOM
She reaches Cumulus City and uses her boots' magnets to attach to the underside of the ship. She makes her way to the gunports and blasts them with her amplified eye beams. The super heated beams melt down the guns and she makes her way down the ship taking out all the guns on that end. As she travels across the hull, she sees a hatch leading into the ship.
BLOSSOM (activating radio): Buttercup, come in.
BUTTERCUP: I'm here, at Bubbles last known location before we lost her.
BLOSSOM: Good. I found a hatch going inside this thing, you search for Bubbles. In the meantime I'll head in from here and try to find out more about this ship, maybe a way to take it out.
BUTTERCUP: Alright. I'm heading inside now.
CUT TO:
BUBBLES & BOOGIEMAN
Boogieman's latest offensive is exhausting Bubbles. It appears that she has reached her limit. She is just barely blocking the blows in time. Finally, Boogieman lands a kick into Bubbles stomach and Bubbles goes down to her knees holding her stomach.
BOOGIEMAN (raises his sword): Goodbye, brat.
He sends the sword down with the clear intent of cutting Bubbles in two. Bubbles manages pull herself away just in time to avoid being sliced in half. But is just a second late in another sense. After Boogieman brings the sword down, a clump of blonde hair is seen flying through the air. The clump slowly unravels as it falls down the shaft and a large number of little blonde hair fly away.
Bubbles, sits back and slowly brings her hand up to her head and feels the right side. Her eyes suddenly widen when she realizes what's wrong...she's missing a pigtail. The Boogieman simply stands there and laughs at Bubbles.
BOOGIEMAN: Oooohhh, did the poor little baby get a bad haircut?
Bubbles just looks at Boogieman with pure anger I her eyes. Despite all the damage she's taken, she manages to stand, albeit slowly. Bubbles is completely silent as she brings up her bar.
BUBBLES (Charges Boogieman): Eyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh!!!!!
She draws back her bar and rams it into Boogieman's gut. Boogieman reels back but Bubbles doesn't give him enough time to recover. She flies at him again and hits him with the bar square in the jaw with the force of ten home run hitters.
Boogieman falls on his back and Bubbles attacks again. But this time, her exhaustion overtakes her and slows her down enough for Boogieman to grab the bar and use it to pull Bubbles into a headbutt. Bubbles loses her grip on the bar and falls to the platform. Boogieman walks up and picks her up by the collar of her flight suit.
He walks and holds her over the edge of the platform. He begins preparing to drop the near-unconscious Powerpuff to the bottom of the shaft, which contained numerous pieces of heavy equipment and gears that would surely crush Bubbles.
BOOGIEMAN: Well, where's your Daddy now, child? He can't do anything now, and your sisters are scared witless by my Speaker Ships. Prepare to die, girl.
He lets go of her collar and Bubbles begins to fall. She hurtles down the shaft. During the descent she begins to lose consciousness.
Boogieman just laughs as Bubbles plummets.
CUT TO:
BUTTERCUP
She's flying through the corridors of the area of Cumulus City where Bubbles entered. She enters the room with the air vents and sees the broken window. She looks in just as Boogieman lets go of Bubbles.
BUTTERCUP (to herself): No! Bubbles!!
She blasts through the window and rushes down to Bubbles. She flies at top speed to catch up to the falling blue Powerpuff. She manages to get to Bubbles just before she falls into the equipment at the bottom of the shaft.
Boogieman sees the last second rescue and bellows in anger.
Buttercup flies back to the platform, but as she does she notices Bubbles's pigtail is missing.
BUTTERCUP (to herself): Man, you must have put up one heck of a fight. We'll get him for you, Bubbles. But first I have to take you somewhere safe. (out loud, activating her radio) Blossom? (static) Blossom, you there? (static) I got Bubbles. (static) Great, these things don't work in here. Maybe...
She looks at the wall and blasts a hole in it with her eye beams and flies out of it.
CUT TO:
BOOGIEMAN
He has just witnessed Buttercup take Bubbles out of Cumulus City.
BOOGIEMAN (tearing out a whole railing): NO!!! I had her!! I almost had total revenge!
He rages some more
CUT TO:
BLOSSOM
She has found her way to the bridge of Cumulus City. Monsters are attacking her but she's fighting them off easily. She knocks around all the monsters and eventually makes her way to the bridge command chair and turns it to reveal the Drone.
BLOSSOM (now a little worried): Where's Boogieman?!
The Drone's too scared/surprised to answer.
BLOSSOM: Where is he?
DRONE: He's dealin' wit' your blonde sister.
BLOSSOM: And where's that?
Before the Drone can answer a large, muscular monster attacks Blossom from behind but Blossom sees the move just in time to freeze the monster in place with her Ice Breath. The Drone tries an attack while Blossom's occupied, but Blossom kicks him back into the chair. She just turns and looks at it.
DRONE (resigned): I know...
Blossom blows her ice breath into the Drone, freezing it and the chair in one giant block of ice.
She then flies to a computer terminal and pushes a few buttons. She turns to the beaten monsters in the bridge.
BLOSSOM: Just so you know, I just activated this place's self-destruct system. It's gonna blow in 'bout two minutes.
AUTOMATIC P.A. SYSTEM: Cumulus City will self-destruct in two minutes, fifteen seconds.
The message sinks in almost instantly and all of the monsters in the bridge run to the escape pods. Two of the monsters take the time to grab the muscle-monster and Drone frozen by Blossom. Blossom takes off through the roof and hears her radio.
BUTTERCUP (on radio): ...are you? Blossom, do you read? Blossom?
BLOSSOM: I read you...I was just taking care of a couple things.
BUTTERCUP: Well, if you're done, I got Bubbles.
BLOSSOM: Is she alright?
BUTTERCUP: Yeah...though we might have to take her to a hair salon later.
BLOSSOM: Umm...okaaaaaaaay. We gotta get out of here now. This things gonna blow in a couple minutes.
BUTTERCUP: Got it. I'm takin' Bubbles home now.
BLOSSOM: I'll meet you there.
She flies toward home.
CUT TO:
INTERIOR OF CUMULUS CITY
Boogieman is running down the hall trying to beat the self-destruct clock.
BOOGIEMAN (to himself): Why did I put that self-destruct system into the main computer? Nothin' good ever comes out of those things I must've been in a stupor. Everything's gone downhill...I don't get revenge on the blonde Powerpuff, the other two get over their fears, they come here and start playin' rough, then one of 'em brings Cumulus City down on our ears.
Boogieman's escape pod is in front of him as the countdown to destruction continues.
P.A.: Self-destruction in one minute, twenty seconds.
BOOGIEMAN: Plenty of time.
P.A.: Malfunction! Malfunction! Self-destruct will now occur in twenty seconds.
BOOGIEMAN: Uh-oh.
CUT TO:
SKY OUTSIDE OF CUMULUS CITY
Blossom and Buttercup, who's holding Bubbles, are flying away from Cumulus City as fast as they can. They are just at the height of Townsville's largest buildings when a large explosion rips through the air, lighting the sky with a severe fireball.
BUTTERCUP: BLOSSOM! You said it would only take a couple minutes, that wasn't even one.
BLOSSOM: Guess something messed up.
BUTTERCUP: Not surprising, most of that stuff looked like something out of some 70's sci-fi flick.
BLOSSOM: Yeah, I'll bet a lot of it was just special effects meant to make it look good rather than actually be effective.
BUTTERCUP: No kiddin'. (Bubbles stirs in Buttercup's arms) C'mon, let's get her home.
Blossom nods and they fly home.
CUT TO:
FIELD OUTSIDE OF TOWNSVILLE
There is a crashed aircraft of an unknown type on the ground. It's a wreck, looking as if it has just weathered an explosion. A hatch in the side opens and the Boogieman climbs out, looking a bit worse for wear.
BOOGIEMAN: One...day...Powerpuff Girls...revenge...will...be mine.
The Boogieman faints.
CUT TO:
UTONIUM HOME - LATER THAT NIGHT
A real storm has started again.
SOMEONE INSIDE THE HOUSE: Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
CUT TO:
POWERPUFF GIRLS' BEDROOM
Blossom, Buttercup, Sandy, and Utonium are trying to calm a distressed Bubbles, who is screaming her lungs out at the current condition of her hair. Blossom is behind Bubbles, who's sitting on a stool in front of a mirror crying. Blossom is doing her best to make a plausible hairdo out of Bubbles's butchered hair.
BUBBLES (crying): My haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiirrrrrrrrrrrrrr! Waaaaaaaaahhhhhh!!!
SANDY (coming and putting her hand on Bubbles shoulder): It's okay, sweetheart. Hair grows back, give it some time and you'll be able to have your pigtails back in no time.
BUBBLES (comforted): Really...?
SANDY: Yes.
BLOSSOM : In the meantime, this might work.
Bubbles stops crying to check out her new hairstyle. Her hair appears down but there is now a small ponytail coming on the side of head. Bubbles just looks at it and her mouth begins to quiver.
BUTTERCUP (hunkers down on the bed and covers her ears): Here it comes...
BUBBLES: WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!
UTONIUM: Now, Bubbles, it looks very nice on you.
BUBBLES: (sniff) Real...(sniff)...ly?
SANDY: Yeah, and if you don't like I can make an appointment for you at the hair salon I go to. They can make your hair into anything.
BLOSSOM (a bit hurt at Bubbles's reaction): But at least give this a chance.
BUBBLES: (sniff) Alright.
UTONIUM: You'll have all day tomorrow to get used to it, but now it's time for you to go to bed.
GIRLS: Okay.
They zip into the closet and come out dressed in their nightgowns. They zip into their beds.
SANDY: Well, I suppose I should head home now. There's nothing left for me to do here. Goodbye, girls.
GIRLS: Goodbye, Ms. Keane.
She kisses the Girls goodnight and leaves. Shortly after her car is seen driving away from the window.
UTONIUM: Alright, Girls, goodnight. (yawns) It's been a long day for all of us. I'm heading to bed myself. (notices the storm
outside) If any of you want to come sleep in my room again, you can.
BLOSSOM: Daddy, we're cured of that silly fear now.
BUTTERCUP: Ya got that right. We're totally over it.
UTONIUM (smiles): Okay, then. But the offer still stands.
BLOSSOM/BUTTERCUP: Thanks, Daddy. G'Nite.
Utonium kisses the Girls and leaves the room, leaving the door open a crack for Bubbles.
BLOSSOM: 'Night Bubbles, 'Night Buttercup
BUBBLES: 'Night Blossom, 'Night Buttercup
BUTTERCUP: 'Night Bubbles, 'Night Blossom.
The Girls' eyes begin to droop and they fall asleep.
Another thunderclap hits and Blossom and Buttercup spring awake. They look at each other with embarrassed expressions on their faces.
BUTTERCUP (whispering): Heh, heh...well, guess we're not totally cured yet...
BLOSSOM (whispering): Oh well, everyone's scared of somethin', right?
BUTTERCUP (whispering): So...uh...ya wanna...?
BLOSSOM (whispering): Yeah...but...what about...?(gestures to Bubbles)
BUBBLES (not even opening her eyes): Go ahead.
Blossom and Buttercup look at Bubbles, then to each other, then simply shrug.
BLOSSOM/BUTTERCUP (leaving the room): 'Night Bubbles.
BUBBLES: 'Night.
NARRATOR: Awww...wasn't that sweet of Bubbles? Well, the Boogieman's been stopped, and the Girls have been cured of their phobia...well, sorta. But, either way...
CUE PULSATING HEARTS
NARRATOR: ...The day was saved. Thanks to...THE POWERPUFF GIRLS!
