Take that asshole! screamed Major Samantha Carter as
she put her combat training to good use. She was fighting
hand to hand with an Iraqi man twice her size. Quickly ducking
a punch she whipped around kicking her leg high and sent
the man flying. As he hit the ground, the sounds of a support
team could be heard as they fought their own battles.
Just then, she was backing up and preparing for her next
move exactly as her opponent did. They were fighting to see
who took who back as a POW. She could see the hate in his
eyes, the way he saw her, and that only fueled her rage.
Throwing a hard left punch to the mans jaw she rammed
her knee into his groin leaving him collapsed on the sand.
Scrambling fast she retrieved her side arm that had be taken
earlier in their struggle. Pointing it at the man, she yelled,
Get up and put your hands above your head! Slowly the
man did as she demanded.

It was a mile walk back to the temporary base the Air Force
had set up in an undisclosed location. Forcing her prisoner
into camp and handing him over to the SFs she had never
been so glad to see the crummy base. She had been there
for four months and twelve days. The war had not gone as
well as many had hoped and the Air Force was calling
everyone up. Even though she was on active duty, Sam had
never thought she would be put back in a jet flying runs over
encampments of Iraqi soldiers. Hell, she was an astrophysicist,
now that she had given up her days of combat maneuvers.

She headed toward the MASH unit that was adjacent to the
USFA base. They were a front line outfit and had many men
and women becoming injured; having a MASH next door
saved countless lives. Knowing that she had a few scrapes
and bruises, she entered the evaluation area. Several nurses
stopped abruptly as she entered. Is something wrong?
she asked.

Doctor, Doctor Frasier come quick! a young lieutenant called.
Doctor Janet Frasier came running in and stopped just as
abruptly as her nurses had. Oh my god Sam! she exclaimed
and quickly set about her job Lt. Rogers, get me set up in
curtain three and have a bed prepared for the major!
Janet Im fine. Its just a scrape or tworeally, Sam argued
when she heard she might have to stay in the hospital instead
of returning to her own bunk.
Ill just see about that. Have a seat major.

Sam sat on the gurney as nurses took her temperature, blood
pressure, and began to clean her wounds.
So Sam what happened? Last we heard you had ejected out
of your F-16 a few miles from here.
She remembered that, ground fire had made its way into the
engine. Yeah, I was shot down. When I ejected I was followed.
Some scumbag tried to capture me. Hes now in our custody.
She said the last part with satisfaction.
Ok Sam why dont you lay down and Ill do a full exam. To
the major her doctor seemed to be accusing her of something.
I wasnt raped, Dr. Frasier. I kicked his sorry ass for trying to
capture me.
Janet laughed. I wasnt saying you didnt kick his ass, I was
just making sure you werent holding anything back from me.
I am your friend Sam but your doctor first and I just want
whats best for you.

Approximately an hour later, Sam was back from having blood
drawn and x-rays made; now all she had to do was wait.

Finally, Janet returned with the results of her tests. Ah well it
looks like you are fine except for quite a few abrasions and an
avulsion to your lower leg. You also have a mild concussion.
I want you to stay here tonight and Ill see how youre doing in
the morning. She looked at Sam with a severe expression.
I dont want to hear a single argument out of you, youre
staying, and thats finale.

She was now situated in a bed for her stay at the MASH. A
young nurse approached her. Excuse me Major Carter, but
I brought you your mail.
Thank you captain.
Your welcome maam.
Sam sifted through the mail. It was made up of the usual
letters from home: Cassie, Daniel, and even her last CO
General Hammond. But one letter caught her attention. It was
from Colonel ONeill; he had also been sent to an undisclosed
location, in fact it was so undisclosed she had no idea how to
even send a letter to him. She laid the rest of the pile down
and opened his letter.

Dear Sam,
Im sorry I didnt write sooner but I couldnt. So how are
things going in your airspace? Ill be heading your way in a few
days; by the time this should arrive. You know the Army cant
get a letter to anyone without it being obsolete. I cant wait to
see you Sam. This damn war! I hate it. The best thing thats
happened to me since I got shipped over here is finding out
Im heading toward your warm smile. Well, I had better get a
move on I well I really cant say. See you when I get there.
    Jack

She read the letter three times before she was sure she was
reading it right. Jack coming here, that was the best news
she had gotten in a long time.

The next morning as the sun rose over the dunes and the
base bustled about its routine, Major Carter was discharged
from the MASH back to light duty for two weeks. Stopping by
her quarters she dropped off her mail. She then headed
straight for the mess. Walking across the grounds, the sight
of jets taking off and helicopters landing could be seen.

Sam! Sam, hey Sam, wait up! Sam! a male voice shouted.
Turning into the sun to see who was trying so hard to get her
attention, she could make out a man running towards her.
The next thing she knew she was being spun around and
hugged. Stepping back, she saw who had greeted her.
Jack! Oh my God, I didnt think youd be here today! I didnt
even get your letter till last night!
Well, here I am. What happened to you? I didnt hurt you
just now did I? he asked.
Im fine. Just a little scuff with an Iraqi after I had to eject the
other night.
Damn. Well if you look like that I hate to see the poor bastard
who took you on.
Both laughing, they made their way to the mess hall.
Gathering up something that resembled breakfast they sat
down out of the way to talk.
So, Jack, what are you able to tell me about your life from
the past four months?

Oh, the usual classified, not to mention the classified, and
I cant forget the classified. Sarcasms laced every word that
came from his mouth.
Thats what I figured youd say, she said smiling.
Well thats what I get for being in Black Ops. But enough
about me, what are you up to?
The same as you.
They both smiled slightly and a silence fell over the pair.
Breakfast finished in what was quickly becoming
uncomfortable silence.
Come on Jack, Ill show you to my quarters. I need to check
in with Colonel Hodges and inform him Im on light duty for
a while, then we can find something to talk about.
Laughing, Jack agreed, That sounds great.
