| And so we stand tall today for we have achieved our goal the general continued to drone on. It was all Colonel Jack ONeill could do to stay awake as the speeches from far too many officers and politicians were given. As yet another nameless suit began his speech an overpowering need for sleep began to claim Jack but he received a hard elbow to the ribs from the blonde major to his right. Looking over at his 2IC, friend, and the love of his life he saw a piece of paper she was passing to him. Stealthy unfolding the note he read its contents. Jack, Youd think theyd run out of things to say. Im starting to get a headache. So what are you doing for dinner tonight? If youre free I was thinking that little Italian place on 9th Street. Its such a romantic little place I love when we eat there. Anyway I know Im stuck at least for an hour after this with some top ranking scientist but after that Im all yours. Love, Samantha Samantha Carter the worlds smartest, most beautiful women, as far as Jack was concerned, was always thinking of these wonderful escapes. Often wondering how he got so lucky Jack went about answering her note. Slipping the pen out of his pocket he tried to look as official as he could with out arising suspicion he wrote: That sounds great honey. I should be able to slip out by 1800 hours. Ill meet you at the restaurant around 1845 hours. Love, Jack Then he slipped the note back to her. Jack had found that only one good thing came out of this war and that was Samantha. She had worked hard to make her way up the male dominated ranks and as of three days ago she was a major in the US Army. After the attack on Pearl the US was forced into the war and the Army Air Corps was sent into action. Jack was ordered to form a special group to infiltrate the German lines. In the end the mission required a linguist, Dr. Charles Littlefield and the nock out scientist, pilot, Captain Samantha Carter. They had been through thick and thin together they were now closer than family. Jack was brought out of his thoughts by an eruption of applause. Standing and shaking hands with some general he and Samantha were whisked in different directions. Later that evening Jack walked into the restaurant still dressed in his dress uniform. He looked over the crowd and then he saw her. She wore a dark blue dress with a string of pearls around her neck. Her short hair fell elegantly across her shoulders in soft large curls. She was sipping coca cola from a bottle and listening to the live big band playing. All of a sudden she looked toward the door where Jack stood, her striking sapphire eyes shining and the most remarkable smile came across her face. He hated the fact he was about to spoil her evening. Hello love he greeted her with a kiss. Hi Jack. I have some bad news. Let me guess we dont even have time to eat dinner. Theres always the base mess. That comment won him a small smile. Then lets go the sooner we get our mission the sooner we come home. The drive to the base was short an uneventful. Entering they were escorted to meeting room c by a young airman who seemed a bit to interested in the stylishly clad major. Jack was working hard to not snap at him. Entering the elevator Samantha reached over and took Jacks hand in hers as reassurance. Several generals and Dr. Littlefield were sitting around a large table waiting for the two officers. General George Hammond spoke first, Major, Colonel Im sorry to have to interrupt your evening but we have an assignment for you. Thats right. The three of you will be infiltrating a Russian intelligence office. Explaining the mission was General Stephen Ryan. The three of you will be said to be from London. Colonel ONeill you will be acting as Paul Radcliff their security. Major Carter you will be Kathryn Jackson, the brilliant wife of Dr. Littlefields. So you Doctor will be a history professor by the name of Rupert Jackson. Your mission is to recover three scrolls that had been found at a dig in Phalli and ended up in the hands of the Russians. You leave for St. Petersburg at 0730 tomorrow morning. Bags and a detailed file of your persons will be waiting for you. Colonel ONeill, Major Carter I would take this evening and learn a few Russian phrases, concluded General Hammond. Yes Sir, they answered in unison. So Charles youre going to teacher Russian 101. Jack teased the man. It looks that way. Samantha then interrupted, Well in that case Im going to change into a uniform and Im still hungry. I mean I didnt get to have dinner. Ok I want to get out of my Class As and then, Jack spoke, we will all meet in the mess in 10. Sound ok to everyone? Yeah Sound good to me The next morning the team meat up and reported at the base for their flight. Sirs, Mamma if youll follow me, a young airman spoke. They followed him to locker rooms there they found bags, files, and appropriate traveling clothes. Nine hours later they found themselves still flying across the Atlantic. They had been booked first class seats to England. Once there they would spend one night and catch another flight to Germany and from there on to Russia. Charles and his large stack of book on the scrolls they were after set facing Samantha and Jack. She had fallen asleep several hours earlier and now was using Jack as a personal pillow. Samantha honey time to wake up Um what, where are we? London Time? Its 8pm local time. |
