Cosmic Wheel
Unique in a time individual inventors like Bell and Edison were becoming
shadows in the past, Rich Dubarton still had what it took to show the world
that all man needed to get on top was an idea.
By 1988, business and government, with their extensive budgets for
research, didn't leave a stone unturned in their relentless search for
new profitable inventions.
As fate would have it, Rich Dubarton, an independent inventor, discovered
a way to make a gyroscope without any spinning parts The gyro, up until
now, had a rotor spinning in the center. The spin would make the gyro stable
to the plane of the rotor; By creating a synthetic centrifugal force field
by pumping neutrons around the edge of the gyroscope, he accidentally took
man over the threshold of a cosmic renaissance.
It was a time when all the natural states were being amplified; even
fire was being replaced by micro waves, lasers hot enough to melt steel
from miles away, were in everyday use. Computers were on the verge of communicating
with each other. But gyroscopes which were being used in rocket guidance
systems to stabilize them, hadn't progressed since their early days of
being invented.
Rich's gyroscope, like the magnet after it was reinvented into an electronic
state, was infinitely more powerful. It was powerful that Rich had to use
a formula he invented to rate its stabilizing charge. Centrifugal Force
was the most stabilizing charge ever generated by a conventional gyro;
10 CF was ten times more charge and so on. Rich was working out the last
details in the charging system. This system was connected to the gyroscope
by a cable which gave it the power. The gyroscope was charged to 1000 ~F
Rich knew the potential was limitless because the gyro-
Scope had no moving parts. As the charge was increased more to 3333
CF the gyroscope began to drift weightless. Rich could see by the direction
the model was drifting it was stabilizing in its relationship to the sun,
and the earth was moving away on its orbit. Rich realized he had invented
a totally new concept in flying. The charging system could be separated
from the craft after charging, leaving the craft charged indefinitely.
Of course, these tests would have to be conducted from inside a gyro craft
which would trail behind the earth on its orbit, the CF charge trying to
hold the craft stable to the sun, and the earth's gravity pulling it behind.
In this way the craft could achieve altitude indefinitely.
Rich wasted no time getting started and he knew the road to take. His
patent form was accepted, and ready with a working model, he called Pete
Tracy, a top notch financier who had access to millions of dollars and
a flair for excitement. It wasn't more than six months after Pete saw the
model fly that Rich, with the help of his new partner, had a two man wheel
gyro craft ready to be launched. Pete insisted on being the first copilot
with Rich. No expense was spared. The ship was quite different from the
other flying ships which had to carry fuel and thrusters.
On the day of their departure. Pete had arranged a turnout of the press
and people from the stock exchange. Pete intended to stay suspended in
space trailing behind the earth for weeks. He had TV cameras aboard so
he could send pictures back to the earth. The two men stepped aboard and
sat at the controls. Rich gave the word to turn the charger on. At 2000
CF, the ship was stable and the supports and ramp were taken away. It stood
straight as a to? With just the launch cable connecting it to the huge
building where the power charge originated. At 3333 CF, the ship began
to rise. Rich had picked a time and place so the earth's orbit would pull
the earth away vertically. The cable was attached to the bottom of the
craft to hold the craft so it could get extra charge much like a balloon
tied down when it is being filled with hydrogen. Rich knew he needed enough
charge to get the craft over any aircraft routes, so the cable was designed
to release the craft automatically at a specified tension. With the help
of a balloonist, Rich calculated a release tension which would give the
craft a lift great enough to take it to 8 miles high. They could always
decrease the charge if they went too high. It was at 6666 CF the ship left
the earth and sun behind at the speed of light. Rich realized what had
happened remembering how the earth's stabilizing effect on his model had
ended as the gravity of the sun's effect began. Likewise, the sun's stabilizing
effect on the craft must have ended. It was not until the craft stabilized
to a greater center of gravity, that the cable released. And by the speed
they were going, Rich judged the new center of gravity to be the center
of the galaxy. It seemed that Rich had underestimated his power, a mistake
that would cost them their lives.
They both looked back and saw the earth's solar system fading behind
them. Within minutes the sun appeared as no more than a bright star. Rich
knew there wasn't any way to reverse their course. He found by moving the
balus, they could gain some control of direction. He also modified the
already powerful television cameras, so they could be used as telescopes.
Rich checked the star charts for data on stars which lie ahead and he picked
the ones most suitable for life. He estimated they would see hundreds of
stars before running out of oxygen. They began a long search of what seemed
to be a dead universe, most planets were either made of molten rock or
frozen gases. The narrow temperature range needed to sustain life is found
on very few planets and when the planet was capable of supporting life,
there just wasn't any. They saw hundreds of worlds without even a leaf.
Hope was running out, their oxygen supply exhausted. They began to
lose consciousness. Their last thoughts were of earth. If the people there
only knew how lucky they were, perhaps they would be as beautiful as the
planet itself. Just then they saw something outside the craft. It was a
flying horse, on it was a man wearing a robe. He then appeared inside the
craft. With a wave of his hand, fresh air came into the craft. Rich thinking
he was dead, took a breath of the sweet smelling air. Pete asked if they
were dead. The man introduced himself as Winds Morman and explained how
he sympathized with mankind from the planet earth. It was not all their
fault what had happened; how earth's people put technology before spirituality.
With another wave of his hand, a new device appeared on the console of
the craft. It looked much like a computer control guidance system. Winds
then disappeared and he and his horse rode off on a beam of light.
A light flashed on the new device, and the ship made a course correction.
Soon they saw another star system ahead. Rich looked in his telescope and
saw some planets orbiting but the planets seemed dead. Another light flashed
on the guidance system and their speed reduced just when they were on the
edge of the solar system. They saw something neither of then had ever thought
possible.
The whole solar system began speeding up. Soon the planets were moving
so fast in their orbits that they appeared as light rings around the star
in the center. After a minute the spinning began to slow to normal speed.
Rich couldn't believe what he saw in his telescope. One of the planets
was now covered with buildings and lights. A flash appeared on the guidance
system and the craft was landed. The men were greeted by a group of robots,
one carrying a gold tablet, which he showed to the men. It read "I
hereby give my oath to obey the laws of the planet Oman and accept its
penalty of death if my oath is broken." The men nodded their heads
in compliance and the robots lead them to their new accommodations.
Six months passed. The two travelers had many complaints about their
new environment. The food was so bitter they could hardly eat. But this
wasn't what really bothered them. The gyro craft was surrounded by fences
with signs forbidding entrance. The strangest thing of all was to see how
the robots would come and worship the gyro craft as if it were a mechanical
God. In some ways, it reminded them of the way the people looked back on
earth the day of their departure, gathered around the test sight.
Rich spent most of his time researching the vast library and tool houses
in which he found enough information and equipment to build a new power
generator He discovered, by giving the gyro craft a reverse spin, it would
take them back to the earth, then the guidance system would enable them
to land the craft in any time period of the earth's existence. The men
became suspicious. Everything seemed too convenient except the law which
forbade Entrance to the gyro craft. Rich and Pete felt they were being
tested by a greater intelligence and they decided to obey the law of their
friend, who saved their lives. Just then, the robots started to take the
fence away. One robot came up to the men and asked them to follow him.
They were taken to the top floor of the biggest building which seemed to
have beams of light coming in from the sky. They then entered a room, the
lights were coming in the windows and turning into winged people, the wings
then disappeared.
Winds, who was accompanied by a beautiful woman, came over to greet
them. Winds had a tray with glasses on it and the woman carried a pitcher.
Winds gave the men glasses and asked them to drink, for now they were
Truly saved. The drink was sweeter then anyone on earth had ever tasted.
Winds told Rich not to worry about his craft for at that moment the robots
were preparing it for its trip home to earth.
Winds then introduced Christie. She told them how happy she was about
their coming return to the earth, and began to refill the glasses. The
men forgot all about the journey and drank.
The next day the men awoke in their room. They couldn't remember much
about the night before but could, still taste the sweet drink. Rich jumped
up to see if it was really true about the gyro craft. By their bed side
were the space suits which they had worn on the trip to Omen. The man dressed
and went to the gyro craft. It was true the robots had attached a new power
supply cable and were ready to charge the craft. Standing ill front at
the entrance of the craft were Winds and Christie, with another woman holding
a silver tray. It was odd but the women holding the tray looked as if she
were Christi's twin. Winds handed them glasses and they drank. The men
looked with astonishment at the likeness of the two beautiful women. Christie
gave Rich a crystal and when she spoke her farewell, the crystal lit up.
Rich asked her to come, the other woman stepped up in front of Rich and
kissed him. Winds lead the men aboard the craft, which appeared the same
with the exception of the console. The robots had completely updated the
craft's control system giving the men control of space and time in both
directions. Winds told the man not to worry because they were truly saved.
With that thought, he left the craft and the charge began. It wasn't long
before the craft was leaving the planet Omen in the direction of the earth
at light speed.
The gyro craft traveled across the same star systems that it had passed
before. Remembering their search for life, Rich and Pete observed the planets
now looking completely different. Rich estimated by their appearance that
it had been 12,000,000 years since the last time he saw them. The guidance
system was set on automatic control and would take the craft back to earth
at the moment it had left. Rich was ever tempted to over ride the system
and see the planets at their prime but he was too eager to sec home. It
was now evident that the whole universe was teaming with life it just took
the sophistication to find it. It wasn't long before the earth's solar
system was in sight. The earth looked very much like the planet Omen. A
light flashed on the console and the earth reversed its orbital direction.
Soon the planets appeared as beams of light around the sun, they then stopped
and began to resume their normal motion. Through the telescope Rich could
see the Earth exactly the same as it was when they first left. Another
light flashed and they were on the launch pad being charged as if for the
first time. Rich gave the command to reduce the charge to 4444 CF. The
gyro went to an altitude
For the next few days the men observed the earth and found to their
alarm the whole planet was about to enter a nuclear war because of the
gyro craft. Russia realized that now that the United States of America
had the gyro craft, the balance of power had changed. Either they would
strike the US now or lose their defensive edge. Washington was calling
the gyro craft constantly for information concerning the whereabouts of
enemy planes, ships, and missile bases. The first shot finally came directed
towards the gyro craft. It was a missile and there was nothing to stop
it. The missile was no more than 1900 meters away from the craft when Rich
pressed the time alteration button. The planets froze in their orbits and
the missile was suspended in front of the gyro craft. Pete and Rich realized
the fate of man was in need of alteration.
Pete remembered a time in his childhood when his father listened to
a radio show called the "Sender's Show." The radio announcer
was a young man named Brian Love who had quite an influence on the peace
movement. He would appear at park concerts and introduce entertainment,
always speaking of Jesus' love. Pete remembered once playing in his living
room while his father and mother were listening to an interview in which
Brian was speaking to a female pop singer from a group called Airplane.
He remembered his father saying how Brian Love was the driving force behind
the love generation. If only the peach movement had lasted and Brian's
words of brotherly love continued.
Rich got an idea and put the gyro craft into reverse. The earth began
to spin in reverse and orbit the sun in reverse. By keeping track of the
turns they could control their descent into the past. Within minutes it
was 1965 and the gyro craft was following behind the earth with its radar
cloak on. Rich tuned the Sender's Show on the radio and the show was broadcasting
the same interview which Pete was talking about. Pete remembered the people
that rode the beans of light. Perhaps the equipment wasn't totally necessary.
The Voice did sound very much like Christi's, and she was telling The Sender
how she believed he was destined for great things, much more than entertainment.
She told him how she thought he could lead the people of all nations to
love each other. The Sander told her Jesus was the leader and he himself,
just a keeper of the word. After hearing that Rich knew just what to do.
They landed the gyro craft in a field by the transmitter tower where Brian's
show was being sent from. Seeing the ship, Brian soon consented to go along,
and he brought equipment to enable him to broadcast the show back to earth.
The craft was then brought back up, Brian reminded Pete of Winds and soon
Brian, Rich and Pete were all in the gyro craft traveling behind the earth.
Every night at 10:00 Brian would broadcast his show and actually tell
the people that he was on a flying saucer.
Within a few weeks, the show with its unbelievable format, was the
talk of the nation and the station was beginning to show tremendous profits.
The Sender's Show at first was of a mild informative nature, but as time
went on, he actually spoke of world control and stressed an unexpected
emergency.
The other Radio Stations were outraged. They were jealous of The Sander
Show's overnight success and the fact that at ten o'clock when the Sender
was on the air, every radio in the country was tuned to the show. The Sender
was becoming a household word throughout the world. The other stations
joined together to put an end of the Sender's show by submitting a complaint
against the show to the FCC to have the station's license revoked. These
charges would consist of leading the public into believing in a dangerous
fictional story. The people at Brian's station were stunned when Bob Collins
told them that the Sender was in space and the station was prepared to
fight the allegations to the highest court in the land. Bob begged the
Sender for proof, but Rich had a plan and refused. So the station would
have to go to court.
The trial went from one court to another until it reached Washington,
DC Popular opinion was that The Sender would be taken off the air. People
protest to protest. A demonstration began like the world had never seen.
The court still ruled against the station and it was turned off. The world
was shocked. The protester's staged a sleep-in on the lawn of the Capital.
Just as everything was looking hopeless, it came. First, it looked
like a shooting star, then like the star of Bethlehem. People stood and
sang, "he has come!" They cried as the ship landed on the grass.
A door opened and the Sender walked out. An army car drove up to the craft
and picked him up. As the car was pulling away Brian could see the gyro
craft leave the earth on a beam of light as if never to return again.
